Himachal: Orange alert issued for Monday, Tuesday; heavy rains expected
A yellow alert for heavy rainfall in isolated places has also been issued until Sunday.
Thunderstorms and lightning are also anticipated in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur on Monday, and in Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Sirmaur on Tuesday, the MeT stated.
The monsoon activity has been weak over the past 24 hours, resulting in light rainfall in a few areas of the state.
Hamirpur recorded 13.5 mm of rain since Friday night, followed by Karsog with 8.1 mm, Kasauli at 5 mm, Jubbarhatti at 4.8 mm, Kothi at 4 mm, Slapper at 3.9 mm, Shimla at 3.6 mm, Ghaghas at 3.4 mm, and Kufri at 3 mm.
As of Saturday evening, a total of 141 roads remain closed in the state. Additionally, 58 water supply schemes and 28 power distribution transformers have been affected, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).
The maximum number of road closures occurred in disaster-hit Mandi (94 roads) and Kullu (33 roads).
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, since the onset of the monsoon on June 20 till July 19, approximately 119 people have lost their lives — 70 due to rain-related incidents and 49 in road accidents. Around 225 individuals have been injured, and 34 are missing.
Himachal Pradesh has experienced 34 flash floods, 22 cloudbursts, and 21 landslides this monsoon season, resulting in losses of approximately Rs 1,234 crore, the department said. PTI BPL MPL MPL

C'magaluru dist officials directed to clear encroachments, address rain damages
Chikkamagaluru: District in-charge secretary Rajender Kumar Kataria has directed the district administration to remove the encroachments in the Amrit Mahal Kaval area. During a review meeting at the zilla panchayat on Friday, Kataria expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of action despite previous instructions to clear the encroached land. During the same period, 11 govt school buildings were damaged by rain, causing a loss of Rs 22 lakh. Two primary health centres in Chikkamagaluru taluk were also damaged, with a loss of Rs 4 lakh. Overall, govt building damages resulted in a loss of Rs 26 lakh. Since June, 38 houses were damaged due to rain, with 9 completely damaged and compensation was provided to eight. IMD predicts thunderstorms with rain in Delhi on Monday
New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) The national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday, two notches above the season's average, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Light showers were reported in parts of the city early morning, while the minimum temperature settled at 28.8 degrees Celsius, 1.5 degrees above normal, it added. More rains are expected on Monday, according to weather forecasts. In an X post, Mahesh Palawat, Vice-President of private weather forecasting agency Skymet, wrote, 'Delhi, get ready to be drenched in monsoon showers on July 28 and 29. The LPA (low pressure area) will move south of Delhi over the northeast." The IMD has forecast thunderstorms with rain on Monday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures predicted to hover around 34 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively. Relative humidity was recorded at 59 per cent at 5.30 pm on Sunday. The air quality was in the 'satisfactory' category with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 87 at 4 pm, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed. According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'. Himachal Pradesh Suffers Losses Of Over Rs 1500 Crore During Ongoing Monsoon Season
Shimla: Since the onset of monsoon in the state on June 20 till date, Himachal Pradesh has suffered losses of over Rs 1,500 crores, officials said on Sunday. So far, 88 people have died and 35 have gone missing in rain-related incidents, and 1,316 houses have been fully or partially damaged in the state. The state has experienced 42 flash floods, 25 cloudbursts and 32 landslides during this monsoon, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). The local Met office on Sunday issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rains accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas in four districts - Kangra, Kullu Mandi and Shimla - for Tuesday. Light to moderate rains lashed some parts of the state in the past 24 hours since Saturday evening. Dharamshala received 35 mm of rainfall, followed by Malraon 26.4 mm, Kangra 26 mm, Dhaulakuan 17.5 mm, Kahu 14.5 mm, Manali 11 mm, Jot 10.8 mm, Jubberhatti 10.4 mm, Bajaura 10 mm, Joggindernagar 6 mm and Narkanda 5.5 mm. Thunderstorms lashed Sundernagar, Shimla, Murari Devi and Jubbarhatti. Nearly 200 roads, including two national highways, were closed for vehicular traffic on Sunday evening owing to the rains and 75 power distribution transformers and 97 water supply schemes have also been affected across the state. Around 131 roads, including the Manali-Kotali road (NH-70), were closed in Mandi district alone, where multiple cloudbursts wreaked havoc on June 30 night. National Highway (305) Sainj to Aut road is blocked at Kekhsu and Jhed due to landslides in Kullu district. There was no significant change in the minimum and maximum temperatures, and Kukumseri was coldest at night, recording a low of 12.8 degrees Celsius, while Una was hottest in the day with a high of 35.6 degrees.
