Isaac TeSlaa's Lions roots go back to middle school
Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes also spoke about Isaac TeSlaa's loyalty during a press conference after the draft. Holmes said the shirt TeSlaa wore was not just for show. When Holmes asked him about it, TeSlaa explained that he had owned the shirt since eighth grade.
Holmes said,
'I thought he just did a cheesy move, like some fanboy stuff… But no, he said, 'I've had this since the eighth grade. What better time to wear it than now?''
The Lions drafted Isaac TeSlaa using three third-round picks, two of which were from the 2026 draft. It was a surprising move to many, as TeSlaa was not widely expected to be selected so early.
He will begin the season behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Tim Patrick, and Kalif Raymond, but could rise in the lineup over time if he performs well. The Lions' faith in his passion and potential is already clear.

Not Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni! Sanju Samson Calls India Captain As His Cricketing Idol
Last Updated: Sanju Samson, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter, admires Rohit Sharma as his idol. India's ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, may no longer feature regularly across all three formats, but the legacy he has built remains a source of admiration and inspiration. He has called time on his Test and T20I careers, focusing solely now on the ODI World Cup 2027. However, he is still missed by many, not just those outside the Indian dressing room, but also within it. Sanju Samson, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter, admires Rohit as his idol. The Kerala cricketer recently appeared in a podcast with former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, where he said he idolised Rohit. On the show, Ashwin asked, '(Who is) Your all-time cricketing idol, and one modern player that you get excited to watch, as a fan?" Sanju replied, 'That's a big question. Uh… Rohit Sharma." Speaking about the modern-day player he gets excited to watch, Samson named 'Chinna Paiyan' Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The 14-year-old opening batter made his IPL debut earlier this year, replacing an injured Samson in the Rajasthan Royals line-up. He quickly rose to fame with his extraordinary strokeplay and a sizzling century against the Gujarat Titans, becoming the youngest ever to do so in the league's history. He played 7 games in IPL 2025 and scored 252 runs, averaging 36. 'Yeah, I saw him hit one for a six. I was thinking that the little guy got lucky, but it kept on going. The quality of the shots also really shocked me," Samson admitted to Ravichandran Ashwin on the latter's YouTube show, Kutti Stories With Ash. And Samson and Ashwin weren't the only players in awe either. 'I saw Jos Buttler talking to Jofra Archer about it. About how it was to get smashed around by a 14-year-old in the nets," Ashwin said. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Former India chief selector slammed for calling Bumrah's workload management 'nonsense'
Former India cricketer and chairman of selectors has drawn criticism for calling Jasprit Bumrah's workload management 'nonsense' after the pacer missed two Tests in the England series due to injury concerns. Fans defended Bumrah and slammed the expert for his not-so-expert view. read more Jasprit Bumrah missed out on the second and fifth Tests against England. Image: Reuters Former India cricketer and ex-chairman of selectors Sandeep Patil is getting slammed online for his strong words against Jasprit Bumrah's workload management. Bumrah missed the Edgbaston and Oval Tests in India's recent five-match series in England due to injury concerns. The team management had already confirmed this before the start of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series. Bumrah underwent back surgery earlier this year after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. He missed out on the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and a chunk of IPL 2025 because of the injury. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Still, several former cricketers, including the likes of Irfan Pathan, Sunil Gavaskar, and now Sandeep Patil, have questioned Bumrah's commitment towards the team. They feel that Bumrah's decision to manage his workload is 'nonsense.' However, the move is not Bumrah's alone as the BCCI and team management have also played a role in it. 'I wonder how the BCCI is agreeing to all this [Jasprit Bumrah playing select games]. When you are picked for your country, you die for your country. You are a warrior. Workload management is nonsense – you are either fit or unfit, and that's how we [his selection panel] picked teams. We did not entertain this workload business.' Sandeep Patil told Mid-Day. Many fans were not happy with his statement. One user wrote, 'Sandeep Patil averaged 36 with the bat in Tests and 24 in ODIs. He is talking like he was Steve Waugh and Allan Border type of player. No player should 'die' for his country. This isn't war and the player isn't a soldier. This jingoism bullshit needs to stop.' Another said, 'The number of matches played during Sandeep's era and ensure as chairman of selectors vs. today is night & day… can't compare….' A third fan commented, 'Some of these former cricketers really spew nonsense. It's a blessing that Bumrah is still playing after a slew of stress back fractures. The management has to consider medical history, they can't treat everyone as equal in that regard, that's what is called managing players!' Despite missing out on two Tests, Bumrah was India's second-highest wicket-taker after Mohammed Siraj. He picked up 14 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls. However, India failed to win all three matches he played in. Their two wins came when Bumrah was rested.

'Rajasthan Royals meant the world to me. And then Rahul Dravid…': Sanju Samson adds fresh twist to rumoured exit from RR
Team India wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the IPL franchise, Rajasthan Royals, amid reports of his potential release before the 2026 season. Samson started his IPL journey with the Royals in 2013 and was later named their skipper in 2021. Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson and coach Rahul Dravid during a training session (PTI) He led the franchise close to their second IPL title in 2022 when he took them to the final, but they suffered a defeat against Gujarat Titans. The 30-year-old became the face of the franchise in the past few years, but reports have emerged recently that he might part ways with the Royals ahead of the 2026 edition. Samson holds the record as Rajasthan Royals' all-time leading run-scorer, amassing 4,219 runs in 150 innings, a tally built on consistent performances across multiple IPL seasons. However, reporters suggested that he is looking for a fresh start in the IPL and has handed in a transfer request. Despite all the speculations, the wicketkeeper batter voiced his deep affection for the franchise and gratitude to Rahul Dravid and Manoj Badale for giving him an opportunity. "RR has meant the world to me. A small child coming from a village in Kerala, wanting to show his talent. And then Rahul (Dravid) sir and Manoj Badale sir gave me a stage to get up and show the world what I am made of,' said Samson in a chat with Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube channel. The current Rajasthan Royals captain looked back on his long association with the franchise and expressed gratitude for their faith in him when he was still at a young stage of his career. "That time, they trusted me throughout. The journey with RR has been really great, and I'm very grateful to have been in a franchise like that. It really means a lot to me," said Samson. Samson linked with CSK a year after INR 18 crore RR retention Samson was among six players retained by the Royals before the previous mega auction, with a price tag of ₹18 crore. The others were Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Sandeep Sharma and Shimron Hetmyer. In IPL 2025, Samson featured in only nine out of 14 matches due to a side strain, with Parag stepping in as stand-in skipper. RR ended the season at ninth place with just four wins. Meanwhile, there has been strong speculation linking Samson to a potential move to five-time champions Chennai Super Kings, a team reportedly planning for a transition period amid uncertainty over the remaining years of MS Dhoni's career.
