Gavin Newsom launches Substack to fight ‘disinformation'
California Gov. Gavin Newsom already had a podcast. Now he has a Substack, too.
Newsom launched his own site Tuesday on the popular spot for independent journalists, calling it a way to break through 'the noise.'
'We have to flood the zone and continue to cut through the right-wing disinformation machine,' he wrote in the post that was accompanied by a video of the governor speaking.
'There's so much mis and disinformation out there, there's so much noise, I don't need to tell you that,' Newsom said.
'The question is, how do we break through all of that noise and engage in real conversations? And that's why I'm launching on Substack. I hope you'll follow me so we can continue to engage in a two-way conversation at this critical moment in our history.'
Newsom kicked off his new project by sharing his Fox News Digital op-ed on Tuesday titled, 'Trump is trying to destroy our democracy. Do not let him.'
He also posted an interview with Democratic strategist and TikToker Aaron Parnas.
He told Parnas that joining new media platforms like Substack was 'foundational and fundamental' to Democratic strategy and outreach going forward and that his party must get more 'aggressive' with their messaging.
Newsom launched his own podcast in March, 'This is Gavin Newsom,' where he's conversed with liberal allies but also pro-Trump figures like Charlie Kirk and Newt Gingrich.

The likely 2028 Democratic presidential candidate already has a high profile, but he's held the spotlight even more in recent weeks as California became the epicenter of the Trump administration's illegal immigration crackdown.
Newsom has spoken out harshly against President Donald Trump's deployment of the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles to quell unrest generated by anti-ICE protests.
'These are men and women trained in foreign combat, not domestic law enforcement. We honor their service and their bravery. But we do not want our streets militarized by our own Armed Forces,' Newsom wrote for Fox News Digital.

'With this act, President Trump has betrayed our soldiers, the American people, and our core traditions; soldiers are being ordered to patrol the very same American communities they swore to protect in wars overseas. The deployment of federal soldiers in L.A. doesn't protect our communities – it traumatizes them,' he wrote.
Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta filed a lawsuit accusing Trump of overstepping his bounds by illegally deploying the National Guard to quell the unrest.
Last week, a federal judge sided with California in his ruling and directed Trump to return control of National Guard troops to Newsom's command.
'Defendants are temporarily ENJOINED from deploying members of the California National Guard in Los Angeles,' U.S. District Judge Charles R. Breyer wrote in his ruling.
'Defendants are DIRECTED to return control of the California National Guard to Governor Newsom.'
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly blasted the ruling as an 'abuse of power' that 'puts our brave federal officials in danger' and said the Trump administration would appeal the decision.
A federal appeals court stayed the ruling and will hear arguments Tuesday to review whether Trump can keep using California's National Guard to protect immigration enforcement officials and quell protests.

Christiane Amanpour Now Treats Travel To U.S. 'As If I Was Going To North Korea'
British journalist Christiane Amanpour said she treats travel to the U.S. under President Donald Trump 'as if I was going to North Korea.' The longtime CNN correspondent talked about her experience flying to the U.S. on her podcast, 'The Ex Files.' 'I must say I was afraid,' Amanpour told her co-host and ex-husband, Jamie Rubin, on Wednesday's episode. Amanpour was traveling to the U.S. last week to give a speech at Harvard University, which has come under increased attacks by Trump, including revoking the university's ability to enroll international students. Trump has also ramped up his attacks on immigrants, using agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to snatch people off the streets and imprison them without due process. And on Thursday, Trump announced that citizens of 12 countries would be banned from visiting the U.S. and seven others that would face restrictions. 'I'm a foreigner,' Amanpour said. 'I don't have a green card. I'm not an American citizen. I'm fairly prominent, and I literally prepared to go to America as if I was going to North Korea. I took a burner phone, Jamie. Imagine that. I didn't take a single … not my mobile phone, not my iPad, nothing, and I had nothing on the burner phone except a few numbers.' Amanpour said she also spoke to CNN security about what precautions to take. 'I've heard that many, including British citizens, have been stopped at the border and been questioned for hours and hours and hours,' she said. Thankfully, Amanpour said she went through airport security without any issues. 'I was welcomed,' she said. 'The immigration officer at Boston, where I came in, could not have been nicer. Huge sigh of relief I breathed.'

Trump Deploys 2,000 More National Guard Troops to Los Angeles
The Trump administration activated 2,000 additional National Guard soldiers in California, even as the state's governor clashes with the White House over deploying troops. US Northern Command said in a statement Wednesday that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is directing the troops to protect federal functions, personnel and property in Los Angeles. US Northern Command said the members will not conduct law enforcement, and are completing training on 'de-escalation, crowd controls and use of the standing rules for use of force' ahead of joining other soldiers.

Iran supreme leader responds to Trump: ‘We will never surrender'
Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei early Wednesday declared his nation 'will never surrender' to threats from Israel's allies, including President Trump, amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. 'It isn't wise to tell the Iranian nation to surrender,' Khamenei said in a post on social platform X. 'What should the Iranian nation surrender to? We will never surrender in response to the attacks of anyone.' 'This is the logic of the Iranian nation. This is the spirit of the Iranian nation,' he added. The response comes a day after Trump called on Iran to agree to an 'unconditional surrender,' signaling earlier this week that merely a ceasefire agreement wasn't enough. The president has also doubled down on his request for a deal with Tehran to dismantle its nuclear program. While Trump has left open the possibility of U.S. troops getting involved in the conflict, he has not, thus far, supported plans to target Khamenei. 'We know exactly where the so-called 'Supreme Leader' is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there,' Trump wrote Tuesday. 'We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now.' 'But we don't want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers,' he added, alluding to Iran's suggestion that it could target U.S. bases should the Trump administration choose to step in. 'Our patience is wearing thin. Thank you for your attention to this matter!' Iran has rejected calls to surrender, after launching a counterattack following Israel's initial strike, and mounted plans to continue the development of nuclear weapons while warning against U.S. interference. 'The US entering in this matter [war] is 100% to its own detriment,' Khamenei added Wednesday in a separate X post. 'The damage it will suffer will be far greater than any harm that Iran may encounter.' 'The US President threatens us. With his absurd rhetoric, he demands that the Iranian people surrender to him,' he added in another post. 'They should make threats against those who are afraid of being threatened. The Iranian nation isn't frightened by such threats.' The Iranian death toll is above 500 and injuries have soared in the thousands according to the Washington based group Human Rights Activist. Trump and Israeli forces have encouraged all who are able to evacuate the Iranian capital of Tehran, predicting additional air raids and a high increase in casualties. 'Iran should have signed the 'deal' I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life,' Trump wrote earlier this week on Truth Social. 'Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON.' The president added, 'I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!'
