After Panchayat's success, everyone wants to make 'chhote gaon ki kahaani', says Neena Gupta
The fourth season of Panchayat was released on Amazon Prime Video amid much fanfare this week. As one of the most popular Indian streaming shows currently, Panchayat has a lasting impact on modern pop culture, including several 'copycats', something that even cast member Neena Gupta admits. Neena Gupta plays a simple rural woman in Amazon Prime Video's Panchayat.
In a chat with Hindustan Times while promoting Panchayat season 4, the veteran actor talks about the show's impact and its footprint on Indian entertainment. Talking about the success Panchayat has enjoyed, Neena says, "I could have never thought this would be so successful. The writing was good, which is why we all said yes to it. The cast was good and I knew many of them. It was fun. But I never imagined it would be such a grand success."
Panchayat focuses on an MBA-aspirant Abhishek (Jitendra Kumar), who is appointed Panchayat Secretary in Phulera, a village in the middle of nowhere. Neena Gupta plays the Panchayat chief Manju Devi in the show. Talking about the growth of rooted stories on streaming, Neena says, "It is a golden phase for actors as well as writers and filmmakers. But now, everyone wants to make chhote gaon ki kahaani (story from a small village). This happens. Whenever something is successful, everyone makes the same thing."
Neena says the entire cast is 'proud' of being in Panchayat. "We are all like a family here. It is an ensemble cast where everyone fits and everyone gets noticed. You can't ask for more from a show," she says.
Panchayat season 4 also stars Raghuvir Yadav, Faisal Malik, Chandan Roy, Sanvikaa, Durgesh Kumar, Sunita Rajwar, Ashok Pathak, and Pankaj Jha. It is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Chikitu: Rajinikanth's brief appearance in Coolie music video steals the show
The official music video of superstar Rajinikanth's much-anticipated film Coolie was released on Wednesday. Titled 'Chikitu', the song is an upbeat dance number that features politician T Rajendar, music composer Anirudh Ravichander, choreographer Sandy and lyricist the music video, the four men are seen setting the stage on fire with their dance moves around a cutout of the superstar. Exclusive: Choo Young-woo and Cho Yi-hyun on Head Over Heels, love for Indian fans
What happens when a shaman in high school falls in love with a boy destined to die? That's the question 'Head Over Heels', the latest K-drama capturing hearts across Asia, tries to answer—with mystery, magic, and just the right amount of teenage chaos. In this part-romance, part-fantasy series, Cho Yi-hyun plays Park Seong-A, a dutiful student by day and the famed masked shaman Fairy Cheonji by night. Choo Young-woo stars opposite her as Bae Gyeon-woo, a soft-spoken transfer student with a dark fate trailing him. What follows is a story that's equal parts touching and an exclusive email interview with India Today, the lead duo opened up about their characters, the idea of fate, their secret dreams, and what they'd say to their ever-growing Indian Cho Yi-hyun, the transformation into Seong-A wasn't instant, it was emotional. 'As I read the script, there were more and more moments when I stopped seeing Seong-A from the perspective of Cho Yi-hyun and started feeling like she was truly a part of me,' she says. 'That's when I realised we were really connecting, and I had become her completely.' Meanwhile, Choo Young-woo found his own rhythm by learning to trust his instincts. 'With every scene, there are a lot of decisions to make about how to act or express something. I think I realised that I truly understood the character when I could make those decisions instinctively, without overthinking,' he FATE, FEAR, AND FALLING IN LOVEadvertisementIn 'Head Over Heels', Seong-A tries to stop the death she's already seen in her vision. Young-woo agrees, 'Carrying the weight of that kind of knowledge would feel like a tremendous amount of responsibility.'It's no surprise, then, that when asked whether love is fate, choice, or magic, they both gravitate toward the mystical. 'I believe in fate. To me, everything, love included, is a part of destiny and the way the world works,' Yi-hyun answers. 'I think love is a mix of all three,' Young-woo adds, 'You need a fateful kind of coincidence, the right choices that fit you, and a bit of miraculous timing too.' So, what would they do if they had one perfect day when all bad luck turned good? For Yi-hyun, it's something simple but joyful: 'I'd like to laugh a lot.'
