He had a short but successful title-winning spell as Kelty Hearts manager as well as two spells working with the academy at Ibrox.
He returned the the under-18s earlier this year in a shake up of the development phase at the club.
But with the club going through a period of massive change, Thomson still isn't sure what the immediate future holds.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound, he said: "I went back in the second week in February. We finished up the third in May.
"Obviously in that time there's been a takeover, a new manager.
"My contract's finished on June 30. As of yet I've not really had much dialogue with the club.
"I'm just waiting to see what's what. Moving forward, if there's an opportunity there then brilliant.
"If there's not, then you know what I'm like, I just bash on and keep grafting away."
The San Francisco 49ers Enterprises buyout was confirmed a little under a month ago, with new gaffer Russell Martin unveiled the following week.
Matt Gill came in as assistant while Issame Charai - who stuck around as coach after Philippe Clement was sacked - departed.

Chief executive Patrick Stewart said: 'I want to place on record the sincere thanks of both the club and I to Issame for his work over the past six months.
'Through the managerial transition in February and beyond, he handled himself superbly and was a real asset to Barry and his staff during their period in charge of the team.
'As the men's first-team moves forth into this new era under Russell, it has been agreed between the club and Issame for him to move on.
'For whatever comes next for him, I want to wish him the very best of luck. He will always be welcome back at Ibrox.'
Barry Ferguson's interim team leaned heavily on former players who knew the club - Allan McGregor, Billy Dodds and Neil McCann.
With the new manager's coaching staff lacking numbers thus far and Thomson awaiting discussions, he could continue on with the youngsters or find himself in the dugout alongside Martin... or of course end up elsewhere.

John Brown's belly rumbling is small beer, writes Gary Keown, it's officials who can't tell when the ball's over the line that we really need to talk about
John Brown made a Horlicks of it. Let's be honest. No one in their right mind can possibly be happy with the overall standard of officiating in this country, but, when you're doing the commentary on a club TV station, you're on a hiding to nothing when you brand a decision 'corrupt'. No matter how unfathomable it may be. He landed Rangers a three-grand fine under the SFAs disciplinary code. The Ibrox outfit, as is their right, have insisted that every comment made on official club media outlets will now have to be scrutinised intently. Of course, it's going to turn next season into a demented cavalcade of whataboutery and tit-for-tat skirmishing, but what's new?

Hansi Flick set for crisis talks with Barcelona star after £21m transfer
The future of Barcelona star Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been plunged into uncertainty after they completed the signing of fellow goalkeeper Joan Garcia for £21million Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is set to hold crisis talks with captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen amid suggestions that he's being forced out. Barca have just paid £21million to sign Joan Garcia from local rivals Espanyol, with the highly-rated Spaniard expected to be installed as Flick's new No.1 goalkeeper. Barcelona have also offered Wojciech Szczesny a two-year contract extension which the ex-Arsenal shot-stopper has reportedly accepted. That leaves Ter Stegen, 33, third in the goalkeeping pecking order and up for sale, having been sidelined for most of last season with a serious knee injury. Turkish giants Galatasaray have been linked with a move but Ter Stegen isn't planning to leave. That could all change after talks with his manager, though. Catalan outlet Sport report that Barcelona chiefs are counting on Flick to hold a frank conversation with Ter Stegen about his third-choice role if he stays. The former Borussia Monchengladbach star, who joined the La Liga champions in 2014, isn't happy about how the club handled the signing of Garcia, as they didn't consult him before announcing the transfer earlier this week. Speaking at the beginning of this month, Ter Stegen was somewhat bullish about his future. At the time, Garcia was still an Espanyol player and Szczesny was making up his mind on whether to go back into retirement. "I'm not worried. I know that I will be at Barcelona next year," Ter Stegen told reporters. "I haven't spoken to Hansi and there hasn't been any contact in the last few days because I don't see any reason for that at the moment. "No event has occurred that justifies the conversation. Honestly, the focus is here now [international duty with Germany ]. It's a situation that has arisen now. "But I have to say that this is common. Barcelona is probably one of the biggest clubs in the world and there is always competition, no matter the circumstances. That's why it's natural that Barcelona always seek to develop and improve, and that's clear to me. I will always try to do my best." Ter Stegen has enjoyed 11 trophy-laden years at Barca, famously helping them win the treble in his first season. The Germany international has six La Liga titles to his name, although it was academy graduate Inaki Pena and emergency signing Szczesny who mostly wore the gloves during this year's triumph, with Ter Stegen having ruptured his patella tendon in September. Garcia's arrival changes the dynamic of Barcelona's goalkeeping department and the 24-year-old wants to make the No.1 shirt his own. "I'm very happy, culers," he told fans after signing a six-year contract. "I'm really looking forward to sharing great moments with you." McGill, 31, of East Kilbride, changed tack to get involved in drugs deals and mayhem more than a decade after he ran for Renfrewshire athletics club Kilbarchan. He set a highly impressive personal best time for 100m of just over 11 seconds while being trained by the former Team GB ace Mr Whittle. The MSP for South Scotland since 2016 said of McGill: 'I remember him as a decent athlete in his mid-teens with potential. 'But he did not stay in the training group for long.' We can reveal an image of a fresh-faced McGill wearing a Scotland vest at a meet in Antrim, Northern Ireland. A source said: 'He came second in the 100m at the Celtic games on August 13, 2011. 'He only represented Kilbarchan AC for one year then disappeared. It was very odd because at the time he seemed like he was going to be a really successful athlete. 'But people who knew him remember he did seem a lot more interested in Rangers than track and field.' McGill, exposed by us as the gang war Mr Big, went on to lead the Union Bears Rangers ultras and was pictured with ex-Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard. The INSIDE story of Scotland's biggest gangster - Jamie 'The Iceman' Stevenson He is said to be behind a mob called Tamo Junto who have been waging war against caged Edinburgh kingpin Mark Richardson, 38, and the notorious Daniel crime family. Insiders say dealers paid McGill in fake cash for a £500,000 cocaine deal after seeing him as 'a nobody'. Tamo Junto has claimed responsibility for firebombings and machete attacks in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Cops have made 48 arrests so far. Mr Whittle won 4x400m relay gold at two European Championships and competed at the Seoul Olympics in 1988.
