I wanted to make 'Pariyerum Perumal' with Atharvaa in it, says director Mari Selvaraj

Ace director
Mari Selvaraj
, whose critically acclaimed cult classic 'Pariyerum Perumal' went on to emerge a superhit, on Wednesday disclosed that he had originally wanted to make Pariyerum Perumal with Atharvaa in it.
Participating in the audio launch function of director Nelson Venkatesan's DNA, featuring actors
Atharvaa Murali
and Nimisha Sajayan in the lead, Mari Selvaraj said, "I don't know if Atharvaa remembers this. The first hero to whom I narrated the script of 'Pariyerum Perumal' was Atharvaa. After watching 'Paradesi', I had penned the script of 'Pariyerum Perumal' and was wondering which hero to approach.
"I was a big fan of Murali sir (Atharvaa's dad).
He was an actor who had portrayed many characters with one-side love. One-side love is usually seen as love being rejected or turned down. One side love is not that. In one side love, love does not even have to be professed. The idea is 'I don't even have to tell I love you. I simply love you.'
"When Atharvaa's 'Banaa Kaathadi' released itself, I had imagined Atharvaa in the protagonist's role of 'Pariyerum Perumal'. My protagonist would look like him.

I met him and narrated the script to him. But due to his busy schedule, he could not do this film," Mari Selvaraj disclosed.
"You won't believe it, I was feeling very upset that day (when it became clear that Atharvaa was not doing this film)," the director said.
Mari Selvaraj added, "I kept wondering whom I should make the film with, now that Atharvaa was not in it. I had told my wife that Pariyaerum Perumal will have Atharvaa.
That did not happen. But one day, I knew I would tell this. I think seven years have passed. From them, my sights have been on him and on the basis of the fact that I have seen him for such a long time, Atharvaa is an actor who will rise higher. He's got the capacity, speed and skill.
DNA will be an important film for him."
Apart from Atharvaa Murali and Nimisha Sajayan in the lead, DNA will also feature a number of stars including Balaji Sakthivel, Ramesh Thilak, Viji Chandrasekar, Chetan, Riythvika KP, Subramanian Siva, Karunakaran and Pasanga Sivakumar.
Nelson Venkatesan, who is best known for having made movies like 'Oru Naal Koothu', 'Monster' and 'Farhana' has directed this crime drama that has been produced by Jayanthi Ambethkar.
Background score for this film is by Ghibran Vaibodha while Sreekanth Hariharan, Sathya Prakash, Anal Akash, Praveen Saivi and Sahi Siva have scored the music for the film.
Cinematography is by Parthiban and editing is by Sabu Joseph VJ. Art direction is by Siva Shankar and stunts are by Don Ashok. The story of the film has been co-written by Athisha Vino.

Shivani Gosain on friendship and solitude; says ‘At this point in life, I'm my own best friend'

On Friendship Day, actress Shivani Gosain—last seen in Rishton Se Bandhi Gauri—offers a raw and reflective perspective on how her friendships have evolved through the years. In a heartfelt conversation, the seasoned TV actress opens up about the highs, the disillusionments, and ultimately, the peace she's found in her own company. 'I've had some really good friends—Kishwer Merchant, Kusumit Singh, Neelu Kohli, Mouli Ganguly, and others—people who were part of different phases of my life,' she shares. 'When we meet now, it still feels warm and genuine. But I've never been someone who talks to friends every single day.' Having seen both fame and solitude, Shivani reflects on how time and life changed her social circle. 'There have been ups and downs, and at some point, I began keeping a distance. It's not about blame—everyone got busy, including me. But yes, I've been hurt, and that's made me careful about whom I let in.' 'Today, friendships feel more about appearances—social media likes, followers, filtered photos. True, unconditional friendships are rare. There's often jealousy and politics lurking beneath the surface.' Now, Shivani finds comfort in a quieter life, surrounded by her four cats and her own thoughts. 'Those old friendships will always be close to my heart. But now, I cherish my solitude. I don't feel the need to constantly be around people.' Though she doesn't name a 'best friend,' she smiles and says, 'I've realised that the one person who's always been there for me is me. I understand myself best, support myself the most, and that's why—I am my own best friend now.' Her words echo a grounded truth: sometimes, the most loyal companion you'll ever have is the one within.

Delnaaz Irani on Friendship: My bonds aren't seasonal, they're for life

As Friendship Day approaches, actress Delnaaz Irani opens up about what the occasion means to her—and it's not about cards or planned celebrations. For Delnaaz, real friendships are lived and nurtured every day. 'I don't really celebrate Friendship Day in the traditional sense,' she shares. 'But if my friends and I plan to meet, that's always lovely. Personally, I believe every day should be dedicated to those who are close to your heart.' Having spent over three decades in the entertainment industry, Delnaaz has built bonds that have weathered time, fame, and change. 'I've had some incredible friends in the industry—bonds that go back to my theatre days and TV shows from the '90s. We still have those WhatsApp groups, we still meet, we still laugh like old times,' she says, adding, 'It's a myth that actors can't be friends. I've been lucky to have friends who are now like family. ' As life has evolved, so have her catch-ups. 'Earlier, it was about parties and getaways. Now it's cozy dinners, coffee catch-ups, or just chatting at home. I cherish the simplicity of being present, being real,' she reflects. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks Undo But it's not just industry friendships she values. Delnaaz remains closely connected with school and college friends too. 'Of course, everyone's busy now—some are married, some have grandkids! But we stay in touch, laugh over silly things, and pick up right where we left off,' she says. For Delnaaz, friendships aren't passing phases. 'My friends aren't temporary or seasonal. They're permanent. I don't believe in surface-level friendships. When I call someone a friend, it's for life,' she smiles. Her story is a warm reminder that real connections don't need a day—they just need intention, honesty, and a little effort to last a lifetime.

This 2-hour 20-minute gripping drama-thriller, with an IMDb rating of 7.2, blends astrology, science, and a jaw-dropping climax, movie name is...

Directed by Nelson Venkatesan, the film stars Atharvaa Murali and Nimisha Sajayan in a gripping tale that explores the intersection of astrology and science. It follows two souls battling life in different ways — Anand, still reeling from the loss of his first love and fresh out of rehab, and Divya, who suffers from a mental health condition. Their arranged marriage happens against some opposition, but Anand chooses to stand by Divya despite learning about her struggles. The twist that changes everything Soon after their wedding, happiness fills their home with the birth of their child. But on the very same day, everything changes. Divya claims her newborn has been swapped. Initially dismissing it as paranoia, Anand begins to uncover disturbing truths that shake him to his core. The investigation takes them deep into a dark web of astrology-linked superstitions, psychological battles, and a chilling international child trafficking ring. More than just a thriller DNA doesn't just aim to scare — it holds a mirror to society, questioning deep-seated prejudices and the unjust burden placed on mothers to 'prove' their love and sanity. Its layered writing keeps the mystery tight until the last frame, where the climax lands like a jolt. The background score doubles the suspense, while the cinematography adds to the unease — from hospital corridors to dimly lit investigative sequences. Both visually and emotionally, it grips till the end. Where to watch DNA With an IMDb rating of 7.2 and a BookMyShow score of 8.9, DNA is now streaming on JioHotstar in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam. If you missed it in theatres, now's your chance — grab your popcorn, dim the lights, and let the mystery unfold.
