JUI-F to decide on possible PTI alliance after eid, says Fazl
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) will decide on a potential alliance with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after Eidul Fitr, party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, Fazl confirmed that JUI-F's consultative council will deliberate on whether to join PTI in launching an anti-government movement.
He noted that while tensions with PTI have eased, the party remains internally divided, with its key leaders, including founding chairman Imran Khan and vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, still behind bars.
The JUI-F chief cautioned that unilateral political decisions could escalate tensions in the country. He added that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif could play a crucial role in the current political landscape.
Fazl also underscored the need for dialogue on Balochistan and indicated that JUI-F could consider playing a role in Afghanistan-related matters if requested by the state.
The PTI has been actively reaching out to opposition leaders following Khan's directive to build an anti-government alliance.
In January, a PTI delegation formally invited Fazl to join the opposition bloc, Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP). More recently, PTI's Asad Qaiser and JUI-F Senator Kamran Murtaza formed a committee to facilitate further discussions.
Despite these efforts, a formal working relationship remains elusive. JUI-F has conveyed its conditions and concerns to PTI.

'JUI-F's stance on establishment no secret'
JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said his party's stance on the establishment's alleged role in politics is no secret and that it has always demanded that the powers that be keep themselves limited to the constitutional role. "We have rejected the establishment's role in manipulating elections. We have always opposed the establishment's interference in politics, and this is our political stance and a political party does not abandon its stance," Fazl said on Sunday while addressing a rally in Hyderabad. He said the establishment may be a power, but it is a subordinate one. "If in Pakistan the right to rule belongs to the people, then the decisions of the people cannot be altered. Whoever tries to change the people's decisions is the greatest criminal against Pakistan, and it is this crime that we are fighting against." He said when India committed aggression against Pakistan last month, it was the JUI-F that urged the nation to stand united against India. "We suspended our differences because it was a matter of the nation's survival and defence and we fulfilled our duty to defend the homeland. "We encouraged our army and if our army achieved success in that war, that is exactly what we desirethat you demonstrate excellence in defence, not in politics." He said if the armed forces play their role in defence then they will honour them like a crown upon our heads. "But if you try to forcibly sit on our heads, we will not tolerate it." He said God bestowed honour upon Pakistan and upon our defence leadership and that they should be thankful to God for this, and should not turn towards pride or arrogance. He said today Israel is not only a cancer in the Arab world but also in the entire Islamic world. "The dagger that British imperialism stabbed into the Arabs' back in the form of Israel still bleeds. But, God willing, Israel will be forced to swallow its own blood and will never gain dominance over the Islamic world," he added.

Kashmir dispute: JI advocates participation of Kashmiris in talks
LAHORE: A Jamaat-e-Islami's Central Majlis-e-Shura resolution while stressing immediate start of negotiations on Kashmir issue and including the real party Kashmiris in the dialogue process has demanded Pakistan to adopt a clear stance that no solution to Kashmir dispute is acceptable without the participation and will of the Kashmiri people. In result of the inclusion of the real party the dialogues will be more effective and result oriented, the resolution said, adding if this is not happened then the peace of South Asia will be destroyed due to the confrontation of the two nuclear armed powers and its effects will last for a long time. The resolution was presented by Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Azad Jammu and Kashmir Dr Muhammad Mushtaq Khan. The three-day meeting of the newly elected Majlis-e-Shura chaired by Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman concluded on Sunday at Mansoorah. The Shura declared that India only understands the language of power and not negotiations. The resolution says that it has been proved in the recent war that India wanted to divert the world attention from Kashmir. It said India considered itself powerful but Pakistan's timely response not only resulted in its humiliation but also exposed its disgusting character at the international level. The resolution says that Pakistan in these circumstances instead of expressing any kind of weakness should speed up its efforts at diplomatic and armed front in favour of legitimate right of Kashmiris. It said that this is the opportunity for securing which the nations have to wait for years. It said that the Kashmiris expectations have been increased due to the excellent opportunity granted by Almighty Allah to Pakistan. At any level of negotiations the first and unwavering demand would be that India should restore prior 5th August 2019 (Article 370 and 35-A) position so that the Kashmir dispute should remain as dispute in front of the world. The Shura demanded that Pakistan should stress that if respect for the international peace, principles and justice is required then the Kashmiris should have to be given the right to self-determination, which has been guaranteed several times by United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The resolution says Pakistan and India temporarily agreed on ceasefire due to international pressure but India is an unpredictable country which has never fulfilled its promises. The resolution says that Pakistan while participating in any negotiation process should demand that India should end military siege of Jammu and Kashmir while considering it a basic issue. It said that India should end the human rights violations and allow entry of the human rights organizations and independent media in the state. The Kashmiri leadership incarcerated in detention centers from last many years should be released, India should quit efforts to construct damns to limit Pakistani share of water while respecting the Indus Water Treaty (IWT). The resolution says in the negotiations the international monitoring and mediation of IWT should be stressed. PTI assails govt for growing unemployment in country
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram on Sunday accused the federal government of pushing the country into a severe economic crisis, marked by historic unemployment and deepening debt. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Akram said the country's economy had been derailed from a robust growth rate of over 6 percent to a negative trajectory within a short span, severely impacting the purchasing power of the average Pakistani. He claimed that since the change of government in 2022, purchasing power has declined by 58 percent. 'Someone earning Rs 50,000 per month in March 2022 now has the purchasing power of only Rs 20,833,' he stated. 'Similarly, a monthly income of Rs 100,000 now equates to just Rs 41,666 in real terms.' Akram further claimed that over 18 million people in the country are currently unemployed, with the unemployment rate soaring to 22 percent — the highest in Pakistan's recent history. Lashing out at the coalition governments of PDM-I, PDM-II (caretaker setup), and PDM-III, he said they collectively presided over what he described as the 'most catastrophic period' in the nation's economic history. With oil prices increasing from $64 to $75 per barrel, Akram warned that both the trade and current account deficits are set to widen further. He added that the Pakistani rupee is expected to face more depreciation. He also criticized the government's revenue target of Rs 14,131 billion, calling it unrealistic and burdensome on citizens at a time when the economy is contracting. Responding to official claims of steering the country out of IMF dependence, the PTI leader dismissed such assertions as misleading and disconnected from ground realities. Citing recent reports by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank, he noted that both institutions highlighted Pakistan's ongoing economic decline, rising joblessness, and reliance on external support. 'The IMF's May 2025 report makes it clear that Pakistan will need to enter another program. Without IMF backing, the country's economy would collapse,' Akram said. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025
