
Drugs Control Administration seizes Rs 3L worth of counterfeit antibiotics in Hyderabad drugstore raids
HYDERABAD: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) seized antibiotic stocks worth Rs 3 lakh after raiding two medical shops in Sultan Bazar.
During the raids at Ganga Pharma Distributors and Sri Nandini Pharma in Inderbagh, counterfeit batches of rosuvastatin and fenofibrate tablets were found.
This was confirmed after comparing the spurious batches with genuine ones, following a response from the original manufacturer. A detailed investigation is underway.

Madurai dairy bizman ends life after bank seals firm over loan dues
MADURAI: A 52-year-old dairy businessman died by suicide at the MGR Bus Stand on Friday, after a private bank from whom he had obtained a Rs 3-crore loan in 2022, sealed his dairy products firm earlier in the day for not paying the interest due for seven months, the police said. According to the Mattuthavani police, the deceased -- J Rajapandi (52) of A Malampatti -- obtained the loan from the bank in Madurai three years ago, and had been repaying it properly till seven months ago. Sources said the bank had issued a notice mentioning the pending payment dues and that in the event of failure to repay, the firm would be sealed on June 27. The deceased's son, R Jervinpal, in a complaint, claimed that his father had managed to arrange the money required, but the authorities of the private bank went ahead and sealed the firm on Friday. Allegedly upset with the development, Rajapandi died by suicide at the MGR Bus Stand. The Madurai city police registered a case under section 194 of the BNSS. Five held in Patna for defrauding Puducherry businessman
PUDUCHERRY: The Cyber Crime Police has arrested five persons from Patna in connection with a cyber fraud in which a local businessman was cheated of Rs 30.97 lakh. The accused have been identified as Rahulkumar Singh, Uttam Vishal Kumar, Rayushan Kumar, Abhishek Kumar and Dayand. According to sources, Puducherry-based businessman Sethuraman complained to police that he was contacted via WhatsApp by persons claiming to be representatives of Vizag Steel Sales. They offered goods at discounted rate and convinced him to transfer Rs 30,97,264 to their account. Upon receiving the payment, the fraudsters allegedly went incommunicado. A case was registered on July 3, 2024. The investigation, led by Inspector S Diagaradjane, traced the fraudulent transaction to a UCO Bank account operating from Bihar. With the aid of advanced cyber tools, the suspects were traced to Patna. A special team led by Inspector BC Kirtty went to Patna, apprehended the accused and seized Rs 34 lakh, mobile phones, debit cards, bank passbooks, chequebooks, a Wi-Fi dongle, and notebooks containing customer data. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were part of a larger syndicate running online scams posing as representatives of companies such as Vizag Steels, Zuari Cement, and Jindal Steels. The estimated value of the total fraud is believed to run to several crores. The arrested persons were brought to Puducherry and remanded to judicial custody. DIG Sathyasundaram and SSP (I/C) Praveen Kumar Tripathi have commended the Cyber Crime team for cracking the case.

Doc kept under 'digital arrest', loses Rs 3 crore
MUMBAI: A 70-year-old doctor was cheated by cyber criminals of Rs 3 crore and kept under "digital arrest" for eight days after being accused of involvement in a non-existent money laundering scam, a Mumbai police official said on Saturday. In the month of May, the victim got a call from a person identifying himself as telecom department staffer Amit Kumar, who told her a SIM card had been bought with her personal details for use in criminal activities. "She then got a call from another person who identified himself as Crime Branch officer Samadhan Pawar. He told the victim that her bank account and debit card details were found in a raid at the residence of an airline company owner who was earlier arrested for money laundering and is currently out on medical bail," the official said.
