Liquor worth Rs 1.24 cr hidden behind onion sacks seized near Bagodara
The operation was carried out following a tip-off received by police inspector R N Karmatiya. The container truck, which originated from Silvassa and was en route to Gondal, initially appeared to be carrying a routine consignment of onions. However, a detailed inspection revealed 17,940 sealed bottles of IMFL hidden behind the sacks.
Police valued the total seizure — including the truck and liquor — at Rs 1.24 crore.
The driver, identified as Mansukh Kodiyatar from Pastardi village in Bhanvad taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka district, was arrested on the spot.

During interrogation, Kodiyatar informed police that the truck belonged to one Bharat Hun of Dwarka, who had directed him to transport the consignment from Silvassa to Gondal. The vehicle covered nearly 400 km — passing through Valsad, Vapi, Surat, Bharuch, Vasad, and Borsad — without being stopped at any police checkpoint.
The LCB has launched a manhunt for Bharat Hun, believed to be the kingpin behind the operation. A police team has been dispatched to Dwarka to trace and apprehend him.

Lakhimpur Kheri violence: SC questions UP Police inaction on witness' complaint of threat, bribe
The Supreme Court on Thursday questioned the Uttar Pradesh Police for not acting on a witness' complaint that he was threatened with 'dire consequences' and offered a bribe not to testify in the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence case involving former Union minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra, Live Law reported. A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant, Ujjal Bhuyan and N Kotiswar Singh directed the police to verify the allegations. On June 20, Baljinder Singh filed a written complaint alleging that an unidentified person offered him Rs 1 lakh and threatened him with consequences if he testified in the case, Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for the complainant, told the court. Bhushan added that despite the written complaint, no first information report had been registered, Live Law reported. The Uttar Pradesh Police reportedly claimed that Singh had not appeared in person, which is why the FIR was not filed. The court said this explanation was unsatisfactory. 'In case the complainant has been reluctant in coming forward in support of his complaint, some senior police officer can be deputed to visit the complainant…to verify if complaint has been made by him,' Live Law quoted the bench as saying. 'If such contents are acknowledged it is imperative for police to investigate.' The court also directed the senior superintendent of police in Lucknow to verify the complaint and file an affidavit along with a fresh status report. The case pertains to the death of eight persons, including four farmers, on October 3, 2021, as violence had broken out after a vehicle belonging to Ashish Mishra had allegedly run over a group of demonstrators. The violence had taken place in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh during a protest against the Union government's farm laws that were later repealed. During the hearing on Thursday, Bhushan also said that if Singh's allegations were found to be credible, Ashish Mishra's bail would have to be cancelled. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court in July 2024. Ashish Mishra's counsel opposed this, claiming the allegations lacked evidence. He told the court that 20 witnesses had already been examined by the trial court, while another 20 had been dropped by the prosecution. He also claimed that although the trial court was hearing the case thrice a month, 'nobody turns up'. While Bhushan requested a day-to-day hearing, the bench declined, saying it could impact other pending cases.

Gujarat govt official convicted of demanding Rs 4,000 bribe
A sessions court in Gandhinagar has convicted a Class II rank official of the Gujarat government under the Prevention of Corruption Act for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000. Natvarbhai Patel, who was serving as Deputy Executive Engineer in the Kalpsar Mechanical Cell, was sentenced to one year and six months of imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him. The order was pronounced on Wednesday. According to P D Vyas, the public prosecutor in the case, the complaint was filed by a man who used to run a taxi service. In November-December 2008, he had provided taxis on rent to Patel's office. While he received partial payment for his services, an amount of Rs 24,276 remained pending. Before this, the complainant's bills to the tune of Rs 1.29 lakh and Rs 54,000 were cleared and paid by Patel's office. When the complainant followed up with Patel for the remaining dues, Patel allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 4,000 to clear the payment. Subsequently, based on the police complaint, a trap was laid. Patel was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe. Subsequently, a criminal offence was registered at the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Gandhinagar in 2009. The case proceeded under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, which criminalises public servants accepting gratification other than legal remuneration in respect of official acts. Patel, a mid-level officer in a department that comes under the state's Water Resources wing, was convicted after the court found sufficient evidence of him having misused his position to demand and accept illegal gratification.
