Daniel Seavey on embracing the spotlight of solitary stardom

Stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist is no easy feat, but Daniel Seavey seems to be embracing the solitary stardom as well as any of the greats.
The multi-platinum singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer has reached new heights with his debut release Second Wind, an album jam-packed with stellar vocals, and vulnerable artistry.
Chatting to Extra.ie ahead of his Dublin show on May 15, Daniel discussed breaking ground on his first solo record and rebuilding his confidence. 'I felt like a kid in a candy store making this album,' the star laughed. 'I made a point to not really want to conceptualize to any degree. I just wanted to, like, throw paint at a wall and see what sticks and see what we like and see what we don't like. I've always wanted my debut album to kind of be that, just me, like, really seeing all the different directions I could possibly head and want to head.'
His background as a producer was reflected greatly in the making of Second Wind, with Daniel eager to 'stretch' his limits in the studio.
'It was really fun for me to kind of take songs written on the piano and see all the ways I could stretch them out and make them even more unique and complement the writing even more with the production. The whole process was by far the most fun I've had making any music.' View this post on Instagram

Second Wind is a violently vulnerable and introspective body of work, but Daniel certainly isn't worried about alienating his existing fan base.
'I think I owe that to my fans to some extent,' he pondered. 'I had an album prior to this one, a year prior, that was almost like too introspective, and it got a little too dark for who I think I am, or, you know, want to be. But I do think I'm really happy with the balance, it does feel introspective, and it also feels like very light hearted and fun, and I think that kind of sums me up as a person.'
'I'm very happy. I'm the happiest I've been in a long time, and I do think you can definitely hear that a lot on this album, which, you know, I'm very proud of.' Daniel's fans have proved their loyalty to this album, with the excitement building for his Dublin date later this month.
'It's so life changing,' he said. 'I had a particularly hard time with even understanding the concept that something I personally made could ever mean that much to somebody. I think I was so brainwashed into believing that only people that have had accolades in the industry for years could ever make something so special and connect to anybody.'
'I think I was so twisted in the head on just what music is and how it works, and when I went into making my music, I really just thought the worst of myself.' 'It's mind boggling to see just where things have landed for me, versus how I expected things to go. It's been so inspiring for me, and life changing for me, and that is a gift fans, I don't think they even understand they're giving me, you know, it's just been so, so wild.'
Sharing his excitement to land in the Emerald Isle, Daniel added: 'I'm so excited. I have yet to be there on my own, but the last time I went there with my band, I had never heard louder barking from a crowd. I never heard the Olé chant, and it's been ringing in my ears ever since, it's been like, five years, and I'm just dying to get back.'
'Dublin's my mom's favorite place, in maybe the world outside of the US. Like, I'm not even kidding, she's talked about if she were to move out of the US, she she would move to Ireland. So we love it there, so, so much and I can't wait to be back.'
