‘Building the Bengaluru of tomorrow': DK Shivakumar on Greater Bengaluru project
Last month on May 15, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the implementation of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, replacing the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) with the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).

The change came into effect following the Governor's assent to the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act.
DK Shivakumar mentioned that he has discussed the issue with the Congress party leaders. As the municipal elections will be held in Bengaluru, it was also among the topics discussed with the Congress party leadership.
"This is what is being done to plan special programs for Bengaluru. That is why I have discussed with our party leaders. The municipal elections need to be held in the coming days. This is what is being discussed about when the elections should be held", DK Shivakumar told reporters.

He highlighted that the municipal corporation needs to be created in the next four months, and the number of municipalities that need to be created should be discussed. Shivakumar asserted that he has also spoken to the opposition leaders over the issue and has taken everyone into confidence.
"The municipal corporation needs to be formed within four months. we need to talk about how many municipalities should be created. We also need to talk with the opposition leaders. I spoke to them once before. We need to take everyone into confidence. We will speak for everyone", DK Shivakumar said.
Earlier today, DK Shivakumar met with the Bengaluru ministers and MLAs at his residence. The main agenda of the meeting was to address the issues related to the problems faced by the citizens of the city, including traffic and infrastructure of urban living.

Taking to 'X', DK Shivakumar informed about the development and highlighted that the meeting was not just for the sake of solving problems but to create a city that is efficient, inclusive, and future-ready.

On May 25, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar had said that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) division would be completed by September 15 and the Greater Bengaluru Authority would be formed after that.

TPCC chief slams Centre over urea shortage
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief B. Mahesh Kumar Goud has slammed the Centre for failing to provide adequate urea supplies to the State, accusing it of deliberately undermining Telangana and discriminating against Congress-ruled States. Speaking at a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan here on Tuesday, Mr. Goud provided details about the plight of many farmers due to urea shortage and emphasised that Congress MPs from Telangana, backed by leaders like Priyanka Gandhi, are actively protesting in Parliament to address the issue. Mr. Goud pointed out that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao have written several times to the Centre, expressing concerns over the urea shortage. 'Despite these efforts, the Centre led by NDA has not fulfilled Telangana's urea allocation, with a shortfall of nearly 3 lakh metric tonnes, causing significant hardship for farmers,' he said, and demanded that the Centre immediately supply Telangana's allocated share of urea. Mr. Goud also criticised BJP leaders from the State, including Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, accusing them of negligence and colluding with the BRS to malign the Congress government's image. 'While farmers are protesting here for urea, Mr. Kishan Reddy is 'sleeping in Delhi',' the MLC said, questioning their commitment to the State's welfare. He also observed that this would not do any good for democracy.

Nawada: A policeman was injured during a freak incident involving a car carrying the Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, during the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar this morning. The open-top jeep had run over the cop's feet on the crowded street dotted with the politician's supporters and security personnel in Nawada. Fellow policemen and the politician's supporters immediately pushed the vehicle backwards and rescued the policeman. The cop was seen limping away after being freed from under the car's wheels. Mr Gandhi, who was seen standing in the open-top jeep, immediately took a water bottle and gave it to his supporters to assist the injured policeman. He later met the policeman and inquired about his injury. The BJP targeted the Congress over the incident and claimed the police constable was "crushed" under Mr Gandhi's car. Flanked by top Opposition leaders, including the RJD's Lalu Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav, the Congress had billed it as a moral crusade to safeguard democracy, pushing Mr Gandhi's claim that a conspiracy is being hatched to "steal votes" in Bihar. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said Rahul Gandhi had leaned on Lokniti-CSDS data, which has now admitted to errors not just in Maharashtra but also in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). "The very institution whose data Rahul Gandhi leaned on to defame the voters of Maharashtra has now admitted that its figures were wrong -- not just on Maharashtra, but even on SIR," Malviya wrote on X. In Devlali, he claimed voters declined from 4,56,072 to 2,88,141 — a '36.82% decrease.' Meanwhile, on Monday, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition alleging irregularities in the Maharashtra Assembly elections held in November 2024.
