Janmashtami celebrated with religious fervor across city; Lord Krishna a source of inspiration for justice & duty: Delhi CM

New Delhi, Aug 16 (UNI) The festival of Janmashtami was celebrated with gaiety and religious fervor across the national capital today as devotees thronged temples decorated with flowers and lights.
Since morning, the atmosphere at the temples in the city was full of enthusiasm with people visiting the places of worship where Lord Krishna hymns set the tone for the Janmashtami celebrations.
Many observed fast on the occasion, while devotees decorated their puja rooms with flowers and offered sweets to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna.
One of the most noteworthy parts of the festival is the 'Janmashtami' tableaux, also referred to as the popular 'Jhankis,' cherished by people of all age groups, especially children.
These artistic displays depicting Lord Krishna's life, especially those of his childhood were set up at temples across the city, showcasing various aspects of Krishna's life starting from his childhood, beautifully telling the story in a visual form.
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also celebrated the auspicious festival with great devotion, offering prayers at temples across the national capital.
Extending her heartfelt wishes to the people of Delhi, the CM prayed for peace, prosperity, good health and happiness for every citizen.
Speaking on the occasion, Gupta said that the life and teachings of Lord Krishna remain a guiding light for humanity.
She said that Lord Krishna's entire life inspires everyone to walk the path of righteousness, justice and duty.
His message of courage, compassion and truth is timeless, and continues to show us the way forward even in difficult times, Gupta added.
CM began the day's celebrations by visiting the ISKCON temple in East of Kailash, where she performed aarti, joined devotees in singing bhajans, and participated in the festivities.
Later, Gupta visited Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (Qutubgarh), as well as temples in Prashant Vihar, Shalimar Bagh and other areas of Delhi.
At these gatherings, she offered makhan-mishri (butter and sugar), swung the idol of child Krishna in a ceremonial cradle, and joined the devotional congregation.
Reflecting on the significance of the festival, Gupta stated that Lord Krishna is not only a revered deity, but also a symbol of duty and truth.
She said that through the Bhagavad Gita, he taught humanity the path of selfless action, equanimity and righteousness.
Lord Krishna's life reminds everyone that patience, wisdom and courage in the face of adversity are the highest form of devotion, CM said.
"If we imbibe His ideals, we can build a society rooted in love, compassion and harmony,' she observed.

US keeps an eye on India, Pak every day: Rubio

Washington, Aug 18 (UNI) The United States monitors the situation between India and Pakistan "every single day," US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, as per media reports today. He reiterated assertions made by President Donald Trump, who claimed to have played a role in preventing nuclear escalation between the two Asian neighbours. Speaking to NBC News, Rubio said truce deals can fall apart quickly as maintaining them is a challenge. India has maintained that the military conflict with Pakistan ended in May through a ceasefire sought by Islamabad after suffering heavy damage. Pakistan, however, echoed Trump's claim, giving the US leader credit for gaining his attention. "One of the complications of ceasefires is maintaining them, which is very difficult. Every single day, we are keeping an eye on what is happening between Pakistan and India," Rubio said. In the context of the Russia-Ukraine truce deal, he stated, "The only way to achieve a ceasefire is for both sides to agree to cease hostilities. However, the Russians have yet to consent to that." "Ceasefires can fall apart very quickly, especially after a three-and-a-half-year war (in Ukraine) like what we're facing now, but I don't think anyone disagrees that the ideal here, what we're aiming for, is not some permanent ceasefire. What we're aiming for here is a peace deal so there's not a war now and there's not a war in the future," Rubio added. In a subsequent interview with Fox Business, Rubio once more referenced the recent conflict between India and Pakistan, a situation that President Donald Trump has frequently asserted he has resolved. "And I think we are very fortunate and blessed and should be thankful to have a President who has made peace and the achievement of peace a priority of his administration. We've seen it in Cambodia and Thailand. We've seen it in India-Pakistan. We've seen it in Rwanda and the DRC. And we're going to continue to pursue any opportunities we can find to bring about peace in the world," Rubio said. Since May 10, former President Donald Trump has frequently touted his role in defusing tensions between India and Pakistan, claiming that his intervention led to a "full and immediate" ceasefire following a "long night" of negotiations facilitated by Washington. Repeating the assertion nearly 40 times, Trump has emphasised that he offered both nuclear-armed nations the prospect of enhanced trade with the United States as an incentive to halt hostilities. His statements have sparked debate, raising questions about the accuracy of his claims and the actual extent of US involvement in the peace effort. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said in Parliament that no leader of any country asked India to stop Operation Sindoor. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has categorically said there was no third-party intervention in bringing about a ceasefire with Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, asserting that the halting of the military action was also not linked to trade, as claimed by Trump. On the day of his summit meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, Trump repeatedly claimed that he had halted the conflict between India and Pakistan and also discussed India's purchases of Russian oil. Sanitation workers, govt school teachers forced to attend PM's event, claims AAP

A fresh political row broke out on Sunday as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claimed that the BJP government in Delhi forced government school teachers, sanitation workers and other civic employees to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi's event in Rohini where he inaugurated two national highways. While the AAP called the move an 'insult to the teaching profession' and 'coercion of government staff', the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) rejected the claims, saying that no such orders were issued. AAP Delhi state president Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed that MCD teachers, malaria department staff, licencing officials and sanitation workers were compelled to attend the event. 'On a holiday when people were supposed to rest or perform puja for Janmashtami, Deputy Commissioners sat in their respective offices across all zones and issued orders to employees of different departments, mobilising them for PM Modi's rally.' Several AAP leaders and MCD councillors said that they reached some pick-up spots early in the morning and found that staff of various departments were being mobilised in buses. They shared videos, which, according to them, showed sanitation workers being taken to the venue. In one such note related to the event, the Deputy Commissioner of the Education department of the Central Zone directed that MCD school teachers must report at the pick up spots by 7 am, from where buses would leave at 7:30 am for the Prime Minister's events. It was further stated that all teachers must attend the rally. Workers of the anti-malaria department also claimed that detailed instructions were issued to their supervisors to monitor attendance at the PM's event. According to them, circle in-charges were told to send a photo of the number plate of the buses they board in the morning, take another photograph after sitting inside the bus, and a third on reaching the programme venue. They added that staff were warned against disobeying senior officers' orders or creating any disturbance. Commenting on the alleged directions, Leader of Opposition, Atishi said, 'It is wrong to be threatened and dragged to the rally in the name of duty…Sanitation workers' duty is to keep the city clean, not to turn into crowds; By forcing them, BJP is indulging in petty politics.' Responding to the Opposition's remarks, MCD Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh said, 'These are unnecessary claims, MCD employees are also citizens of Delhi, they went there because they wanted to listen to their PM…after falling out of power, the AAP is jobless so they are unnecessarily making an issue out of everything.' Addressing a press conference, senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia claimed that government school teachers were instructed to gather and clap during the Prime Minister's event. 'PM Modi inaugurated road projects in Delhi on Sunday. It is a good thing. But what is shocking and shameful is that the BJP's Delhi government issued government orders forcing all teachers to attend the ribbon-cutting event just to clap,' Sisodia said. He added: 'The BJP is unable to find people who will willingly attend their programmes. Since no one is ready to come, they issued a diktat that every principal and teacher of Delhi's government schools must be present, so that when the Prime Minister cuts the ribbon, there will be applause. This is deeply shameful.' Arguing that the move went against the respect traditionally accorded to teachers, Sisodia said, 'Our country has always said, 'Guru Govind dou khade, kake lagoon paay. Balihari Guru aapne, Govind diyo bataye.' But today the situation has been turned upside down. PM Modi and the Guru both are present — PM Modi cuts the ribbon and gives a speech from the stage, while the Guru stands below and claps. Is this the responsibility of teachers? Is it not an insult to the teaching profession when the government issues orders saying that when the Prime Minister inaugurates a road, every teacher must stand there and clap? The BJP must apologise to Delhi's teachers for this insult.' 'Just a few months ago, when Arvind Kejriwal's AAP government was in power in Delhi, orders were issued to send principals to IIMs, to Finland, to Singapore, and teachers to Cambridge for training. That was the atmosphere in Delhi. But now the scene is that the Prime Minister is cutting the ribbon of a road, and all the teachers are standing there to clap,' he added. Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh also addressed the media and claimed that the mobilisation of government employees showed a lack of public enthusiasm for the BJP. 'Such a situation has been created that no one is willing to listen to Narendra Modi. That is why they are summoning sanitation workers and teachers to fill their rallies. They may create fake crowds through such artificial means, but this will bring them no benefit.'

Vaishnaw invites Mamata to PM Modi's Metro Inauguration in Kolkata

Kolkata, Aug 17 (UNI) Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has invited West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to attend the inauguration of three metro projects in Kolkata, scheduled to be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 22. In a letter dated August 14, Vaishnaw requested the chief minister to 'grace the occasion' at Jessore Road metro station, where the inauguration ceremony will be held. The state government is yet to confirm whether Banerjee will be present. Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the Sealdah- Esplanade stretch of the Green Line, the Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (Ruby Crossing)- Beleghata section of the Orange Line, and the Noapara- Jai Hind (Airport) section of the Yellow Line. With this, the Green Line- India's first underwater metro- will become fully operational from Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector 5, and Kolkata airport will finally get a metro link. The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has questioned the timing of the event, alleging that long-pending projects are being unveiled with an eye on next year's Assembly polls. The state BJP, however, dismissed the charge, blaming the state government for land acquisition hurdles that stalled several projects. State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said, 'Forty-three railway projects in Bengal have been delayed due to lack of cooperation from the state government. The CM's presence at the inauguration would be desirable.' Vaishnaw, highlighting the Centre's push for rail infrastructure in Bengal, said works worth Rs 83,765 crore are underway in the state, along with the redevelopment of 101 railway stations.
