DRDO Mounted Gun System to boost Indian Army's firepower
The DRDO lab, Vehicle Research and Development Establishment, has developed the MGS. The goal was to develop a fully indigenous system that could operate effectively in challenging terrain and engage enemy targets quickly and accurately.
Speaking to ANI, Director VRDE G Ramamohana Rao said, 'This is a 155mm/52 calibre gun. Such guns already exist, but they are towed separately and take time to deploy. Our MGS is different. It is quick, just 80 seconds to deploy and 85 seconds to move. It is fully made in India and can also be exported to other countries'
High mobility Artillery was a technology gap that needed to be addressed, for which the Mounted Gun System (MGS) was a viable solution. Accordingly, VRDE has taken up a Technology Demonstrator Project, 'Design and Development of 155mm/52 calibre Mounted Gun System (MGS) based on ATAGS'.
The goal of this Technology Demonstrator (TD) project was to design & develop an indigenous Mounted Gun System. The gun system of ATAGS has been adapted to an 8X8 cross-country wheeled vehicle along with stabilisers and a necessary interface structure. State-of-the-art technologies in the area of carrier vehicles, stabilisers, Armoured Cabin, Ammunition handling cranes, on-board power sources and integrated compact electronic controllers have been developed in this project.
Mounted Gun System (MGS) is a cross-country truck-mounted heavy artillery gun system (based on ATAGS 155mm/52Cal) with excellent shoot and scoot capability and the highest range of fire in this class. It has been indigenously developed by involving Indian Industries, DPSU, and Premier Academia, under the leadership of DRDO.
MGS has high mobility in terms of gradient, side slope, trench crossing, and cross-country capability and can operate in both desert and mountainous terrain.
Hence, the advantage of this system is that it can be rapidly deployed, matching the mobility of the mechanised forces, destroy the enemy targets and move out before retaliatory fire occurs. A total of 01 Nos. MGS has been realised through Indian Industries and has undergone proof testing and field trials. Technologies, design, process, and QAP have been finalised, and DcPP has been nominated for the Mounted Gun System. (ANI)

With 2.5 lakh sq km open for exploration under OALP Round-10, and being close to discovering a Guyana-scale oilfield in the Andaman Sea, India is in the midst of one of the most ambitious plans to enhance the efforts to drill for more and further enhance hydrocarbons exploration in the country, said the Minister at 9th OPEC International Seminar in Vienna. India is making significant efforts to increase its traditional fossil-based energy production, and the latest push is to explore the Andaman region. India plans to explore and drill for hydrocarbons with renewed momentum by exploring 2.5 lakh sq km under OALP-Round 10. The minister interacted on 'Oil Markets: Energy Security, Growth and Prosperity' with an audience of leaders, captains and professionals of the global energy sector at the Seminar. (ANI)

Centre to provide technology to private factories to ramp up rare earth magnet production: Kishan Reddy
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], July 12 (ANI): The Centre is trying to make available technology in three to four months to different private factories to ramp up rare earth magnets production in India, said Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G Kishan Reddy. 'We used to be 100% dependent on China for permanent magnets of the rare earths. But recently, China has refused to supply. With this view, the Indian government is making efforts for permanent magnet manufacturing,' Kishan Reddy told ANI. 'Our mining ministry's institute in Hyderabad has made efforts and prepared a permanent magnet processing unit with equipment. After three to four months, we will try to manufacture permanent magnets by giving the technology to different private factories. For this, the Indian government has also started some PLI schemes to encourage it. We are paying attention to this subject,' he added. He said that PM Modi has continuously discussed the production of magnets in India. 'Recently, during his (PM Modi) visit to 5 countries, discussions were held with different countries on this subject. The raw material of rare earth is also available in less quantity in India. Importing that raw material, processing it, making permanent magnets for it, which is used from cell phones to space technology, including defence, there is a huge demand for this. The Indian government is working seriously for this. This scheme has also been brought under it,' he said. The central government has earmarked Rs 1,345 crore to incentivise rare earth magnets production in India, aimed at building domestic capacity when there are reports of global short supply. Early this April, China announced a decision to implement export controls on certain rare earth-related items, pushing a supply shortage across the world, including India. India was in touch with the Chinese side, seeking predictability in the supply of rare earth metals -- which had been put under the export controls regime by the Xi administration. China's overwhelming control of global rare earth processing - commanding over 90 per cent of the world's magnet production capacity - has created significant vulnerabilities for industries worldwide. These materials are critical across multiple sectors, including automobiles, home appliances, and clean energy systems. Beyond China, there are only a few alternative suppliers of critical minerals. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the setting up of the Critical Mineral Mission in the Union Budget for 2024-25 on July 23, 2024. The Union Cabinet in January 2025 approved the launch of the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM) with an expenditure of Rs 16,300 crore and an expected investment of Rs 18,000 crore by Public Sector Undertakings. "Youth are getting employment through a transparent process": Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan
New Delhi [India], July 12 (ANI): Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday distributed appointment letters to selected candidates for government jobs at the Pradhan Mantri Rozgar Mela held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Through this employment drive, more than 51,000 candidates across the country received appointment letters for government jobs. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the event virtually. According to a release from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, addressing the gathering, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision is a blessing for India. Under his leadership, we are on a grand mission to build a 'Viksit Bharat'. There's tremendous work happening across all sectors. In terms of employment, Prime Minister Modi's current tenure is a golden era, as over 25 crore people have risen above the poverty line. He has uprooted poverty from its roots.' He further added, 'Whether it is direct or indirect employment, speaking of direct government jobs, more than 10 lakh youth have already been provided with employment by receiving appointment letters. Today, over 51,200 youth have been inducted into various departments, including the Railways, through a fully transparent process, and solely based on merit.' Concluding his address, Chouhan said, 'Heartfelt congratulations to all these young people. This employment is not just for their personal growth, they will now contribute as partners in the mission of building a 'Viksit Bharat'. My sincere thanks to the Prime Minister for his visionary leadership and commitment.' Earlier on Saturday, noting that the world is realising India's two immense powers of demography and democracy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that youths are both capital and guarantee for the country's bright future and Centre is continuously working to turn this into a 'source of prosperity.' Addressing the appointees at the 16th edition of Rozgar Mela, Prime Minister Modi said, 'Today, the world accepts that India has two immense powers - demography and democracy, that is, the largest youth population and the largest democracy. This strength of the youth is both the capital and the guarantee of a bright future for our India. Our government is working to convert this capital into a formula for prosperity.' Highlighting the outcomes from his recent visit to five nations, PM Modi said that the agreements signed bilaterally with these countries will give a major boost to the manufacturing and service sectors of the country, which will ultimately benefit the youth of the country. 'Two days ago, I returned after travelling to five countries. The echo of India's youth power was heard in every country. During this period, all the agreements that were made will benefit India's youth. India will benefit significantly in the coming days from the agreements made in various sectors, including defence, pharma, digital technology, energy, and rare earth minerals. India's manufacturing and service sectors will get a huge boost,' he said. Emphasising the changing landscape of jobs, the Prime Minister said that the Centre's policies have been reformed to meet the modern needs. The new recruits, selected from across the country, will be joining the Ministry of Railways, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Department of Posts, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Department of Financial Services, the Ministry of Labour and Employment, among other departments and ministries. The 16th edition of the employment drive is being conducted at 47 locations across India. The recruitments are taking place across Central Government Ministries and Departments. Rozgar Mela is a step towards fulfilling the Prime Minister's commitment to accord the highest priority to employment generation. It will play a significant role in providing meaningful opportunities for the youth to empower themselves and participate in nation-building. So far, more than 10 lakh appointment letters have been issued under the Rozgar Mela initiative across the country. (ANI)
