Sean Combs trial: Cassie Ventura testifies in federal case against Diddy, describes years of alleged abuse
Ventura, now 37, said the abuse began shortly after Combs signed her to his music label. During her testimony, she alleged that Combs forced her into participating in what she described as "freak offs" — sex parties involving drugs and multiple partners that sometimes lasted for days.
The testimony comes months after a 2016 surveillance video resurfaced, appearing to show Combs physically assaulting Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel hallway. Ventura told the court she had just left one of the alleged parties when that incident occurred.
Mental health professionals say the emotional toll of revisiting trauma in such a high-profile setting can be severe.
"Having to re-tell your story in the court of public opinion in front of millions of people who are watching or reading can be very re-traumatizing," said Chau Nguyen, a licensed trauma therapist.
Nguyen said false reporting among abuse survivors is rare. According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, the prevalence of false reports ranges from two to 10%.
"That tells you that the preponderance of survivors, when they go to court and share their story in excruciating detail like this, they're not lying," she said. "They're not making this stuff up."
Combs' legal team has not denied the physical violence but maintains that all sexual encounters mentioned in the case were consensual.
Some observers have questioned Ventura's participation in the events she described, asking why she remained in the relationship.
"A lot of times, survivors don't speak out because of the power dynamic," Nguyen said. "In this case, Diddy is a very powerful man. He offers a lot of resources, he has a lot of protection. He has a lot of power. At the heart of a lot of cases of abuse and violence we see, it is a case of abuse of power."
Ventura is expected to return to the witness stand on Wednesday.

Junior and his father, Amando, along with two other people, ran to lift the tree — which was about 40 feet long — off Adela. "After that, we went straight into stopping the bleeding,' Junior recalled. 'We got a belt, used it as a tourniquet, held it and had other people call 911.' Junior also said that the family hadn't even planned to be at the course that day, noting that it had been a last-minute decision. "We were trying to make [my brother's] birthday a little bit better because it was mid-week, and we didn't know what to do. We thought of something fast: play mini golf and then go have dinner afterward. But we never got to dinner," he recalled. Adela was treated by Ventura City Fire Department officials on the scene and then transported to the Ventura County Medical Center, where surgeons ultimately determined that her right arm needed to be amputated just below the shoulder. Nancy also said that her younger brother, 13-year-old Damien, will also need to heal from the trauma of the event on his birthday. 'It's a lot to take in as a 13-year-old to witness that. Nigeria says it has arrested 2 militant leaders on its most wanted list
LAGOS, Nigeria -- The leaders of two militant groups on Nigeria 's most wanted list have been arrested in an operation involving multiple agencies, the West African country's national security adviser said Saturday. The two leaders were allegedly the heads of Ansaru, an al-Qaida -linked group, and Mahmuda, a relatively new and lesser-known militant group. Mahmuda gained national prominence after a string of attacks earlier this year in the country's north-central region. Nigeria's northern region is home to numerous armed groups. Officials said the arrests came in an operation conducted between May and July and that they recovered valuable materials including digital evidence that is undergoing forensic analysis and could lead to more arrests. The arrested leaders are Mahmud Muhammad Usman of Ansaru and Mahmud al-Nigeri of the Mahmuda group. Both men are also wanted internationally, according to Nuhu Ribadu, the security adviser. 'These two men have been on Nigeria's most-wanted list for years. They jointly spearheaded multiple attacks on civilians, security forces and critical infrastructure," Ribadu said at a news conference. He said the arrested leaders are responsible for the Kuje prison attack in 2022 that led to the escape of dozens of jailed Boko Haram members and an attack on the Niger uranium facility in 2013, among others. Ribadu said they maintain 'active links with terrorist groups across the Maghreb, particularly in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso.' Nigeria faces a complex, multidimensional security challenge with various armed groups operating across the country. On one side are religiously motivated groups, including 16-year-old Boko Haram and its splinter factions like Ansaru and the Islamic State West Africa Province. On the other are amorphous groups specializing in kidnapping for ransom and looting and commonly referred to as bandits. Sometimes, their activities overlap. Despite military assaults on the groups, they have continued to expand their operations and carry out routine attacks. This year, Boko Haram has mounted a major resurgence. The U.S. government on Wednesday approved the sale of $346 million in arms to bolster Nigeria's fight against insurgency and criminal groups. "The successful decapitation of the leadership of this dangerous franchise marks the most decisive blow against ANSARU since its inception. This strike has effectively dismantled its central command while paving the path for the complete annihilation of the group,' Ribadu said. Oluwole Ojewale, a Dakar-based security analyst at the Institute of Security Studies, says the significant arrest will test the resilience of Ansaru and its capacity to spring surprises or mount major attacks in the immediate term. 'The impacts of this arrest on the terrorist groups depend on what the Nigerian state security does with the intelligence at their disposal,' he said.
