Preliminary investigations by the river navigation department suggest the issue may have arisen from rainwater not being properly drained from the tanks.

Vikram Raje Bhosale, director of the River Navigation Department, stated that the responsibility lies with the coxswain, "who failed to check and drain the tanks."
He assured that the fire brigade is on-site and that large water pumps are being deployed.
"Once the water is removed, the ferry should float back to normal. The ferry itself remains in safe working condition, with no damage to the hull, and the blockage of outlets may have contributed to the flooding," he told TOI.
"We will salvage the ferryboat," he added.

Swept away in stream, Hoshiarpur village man found dead 2km downstream; Punjab minister tours flood-hit districts
Hoshiarpur/Ferozepur: The body of a 35-year-old man, who was swept away in a seasonal stream near Hoshiarpur district's Fatehgarh Niara village on Wednesday, was found 2km downstream near Khalwana village. It is learnt the deceased, Baljinder Singh, resident of the same village, was taking a bath in the stream on Wednesday evening when a strong current, due to heavy rain, swept him away. His body was recovered in the morning. The body was found on a day when state water resources minister Barinder Goyal toured flood-hit villages in the border district of Ferozepur. He promised all kind of assistance to people who suffered losses in the floods. During his visit to the flood-hit villages of Tendi Wala, Ghazniwala, and Dheera Ghara, Goyal said chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was monitoring relief efforts. "Punjab govt will fully compensate farmers and residents for their losses," he said. Accompanied by MLAs Ranbir Singh Bhullar, Rajneesh Kumar Dahiya, and Fauja Singh Sarari, Goyal informed that eight cabinet ministers had been assigned to supervise relief operations in different districts to ensure direct outreach to affected families. Villages have been divided into sectors, with officers tasked with delivering prompt support on the ground, he said. Reviewing flood-prevention measures, Goyal said the Punjab govt already spent Rs 276 crore on flood control works, and soil-filled bags have been placed along embankments for emergency use. Earlier, at Hussainiwala headworks, the minister held a meeting with Ferozepur deputy commissioner Deepsikha Sharma, senior superintendent of police Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, irrigation and water resources department chief engineer Hardeep Singh Mendiratta, and other officials to review ongoing relief operations. Yamuna breaches danger mark in Mathura, Agra on alert
Agra: The Yamuna breached the danger mark in Mathura on Thursday, flooding dozens of villages and cutting off access to several areas. Officials said the river is likely to cross the danger mark in Agra as well, following heavy inflows from upstream barrages. According to the irrigation department, 1.7 lakh cusecs of water was released from Hathni Kund Barrage in Haryana on Monday, followed by 91,212 cusecs from Okhla Barrage in Delhi on Wednesday and 87,079 cusecs from Gokul Barrage in Mathura on Thursday. As a result, the Yamuna was flowing 14 cm above the danger mark in Mathura, with water expected to reach Agra within hours. Floodwaters have entered villages in Vrindavan, Chhata, Naujheel and Shergarh areas. Among the worst-hit are Nagla Akos in Baldev block of Mahavan tehsil, along with Siyara, Chandauri and Bahata. Nagla Akos has virtually turned into an island. Mathura DM C P Singh, who visited the affected villages said, "Today we are distributing food rations to 350 families in Nagla Akos. MLA Puran Prakash and local officials are also present. A medical team has been deployed round the clock.
