COAS Gen Upendra Dwivedi honours gallantry awardees at Defence Investiture Ceremony in Delhi
New Delhi [India], May 23 (ANI): Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi on Friday interacted with gallantry awardees and their families during the Defence Investiture Ceremony - 2025 (Phase-1) held at the Manekshaw Centre in the national capital.
Sunita Dwivedi, President of the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), was also present at the occasion.
The event, held a day after the Gallantry Awards presentation at Rashtrapati Bhawan on May 22, honoured officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, and other ranks for acts of courage and dedication in service to the nation.
General Dwivedi commended the awardees as exemplary symbols of bravery, stating that their stories of valour will continue to inspire generations to come.
In a solemn and emotionally charged ceremony held at the Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt, General Upendra Dwivedi presented the 'Badge of Sacrifice' and the 'Certificate of Honour' to the next of kin of Indian Army personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
The COAS presented the 'Badge of Sacrifice' and 'Certificate of Honour' to the next of kin of bravehearts---Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Aashish Dhonchak, Captain Deepak Singh, Havildar Rohit Kumar, Naik Dilwar Khan, Rifleman Ravi Kumar, Sepoy Pradeep Singh, DSP Himayun Muzzammil Bhat and OEM GDE-1 Vijayan Kutty G (Border Road Organisation).
The presentation took place a day after the formal Defence Investiture Ceremony, which was conducted at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on May 22.
The awards - a deeply symbolic tribute to valour and supreme sacrifice - were conferred to honour officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, and other ranks who were killed in enemy and terrorist action while serving the nation.
Instituted in July 1999, the Badge of Sacrifice and Certificate of Honour have since been bestowed upon families of bravehearts from conflicts dating back to 1947.
The first official presentation was held on Vijay Diwas, December 16, 1999, marking a significant milestone in the Army's continued commitment to remembering its bravehearts.
The 'Badge of Sacrifice' is a 24-carat gold-plated insignia individually engraved with the soldier's Army number, rank, and name. (ANI)

CLAT-PG answer key row: Delhi HC grants relief to candidates, asks to declare results soon
New Delhi, The Delhi High Court on Friday granted relief to CLAT-PG candidates over alleged discrepancies in the answer key and directed the consortium of NLUs to declare results soon. A bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela's decision came over the plea of students in relation to a couple of answers in the key. The court, however, rejected the objection with respect to the declared answer to a third question, and asked the consortium of national law universities to accordingly award marks to the candidates. The court passed the order while deciding three pleas seeking rectification of errors in the final answer key of the Common Law Admission Test -PG 2025. The bench's verdict highlighted the issue of a high fee of ₹1,000 charged by the consortium per question for raising the objection to the provisional answer key, observing there ought to be a "fine balance" between the concerns of the candidates and the institutions. While comparing the fee charged for objected questions by other organisations, the fees sought by the consortium "appeared to be excessive and disproportionate" but the consortium's concern that it was required to keep frivolous individuals and coaching institutes at bay also did not appear to be "fanciful or imaginative", it added. The bench, however, expected the consortium to take heed of its observations and take appropriate steps to "avoid such excessive fee in the next examinations". "It may be advisable for the consortium to place this issue before the committee headed by Justice G. Raghuram for his valuable opinion which may be adhered to by it," the bench said. The court ruled on the correctness of the answers in the answer key after considering each question and the submissions made by the counsel for the petitioners and the consortium. CLAT determines admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate law courses in national law universities in the country. CLAT PG 2025 was held on December 1, 2024. Multiple pleas were filed in different high courts alleging several questions in the exam were wrong. On February 6, the Supreme Court transferred all the petitions over the issue to the Delhi High Court for a "consistent adjudication". The top court passed the direction on the transfer petitions of the consortium.

SC allows NBE to schedule NEET-PG 2025 exam on August 3
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday allowed an application filed by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) seeking permission to schedule the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)-PG 2025 on August 3. A Bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Augustine George Masih took note of the submission that August 3 was the earliest possible available date given by its technology partner for conducting the NEET-PG 2025 examination in terms of the recent apex court order. Allowing the application filed by the NBE to conduct the NEET-PG 2025 examination on August 3, the Justice Mishra-led Bench clarified that no further time extension will be allowed by the top court. In an order passed on May 30, the Supreme Court deprecated the practice of conducting the NEET-PG exam in two shifts and opined that holding the examination in two shifts leads to arbitrariness and cannot give a level playing field to the candidates. It ordered the NBE to make necessary arrangements for holding the NEET-PG 2025 examination in one shift, duly ensuring that complete transparency is maintained and secure centres are identified and commissioned. "The question papers in two shifts can never be of the same difficulty level. Last year, it (NEET-PG 2024) may have been held in two shifts in the facts and circumstances of that stage. But the examining body ought to have considered making arrangements for holding the examination in one shift,' the Supreme Court had remarked. The apex court was dealing with a clutch of petitions challenging the lack of transparency in the conduct of the NEET-PG examination. In their plea filed before the apex court, NEET-PG aspirants claimed that the introduction of two shifts, normalisation method, and change in the tie-breaker criterion affected medical students adversely. The petitioners said that NEET-PG had never been held in two shifts before and had always remained a single-shift and single-day examination to ensure a uniform examination standard and fairness of the national test.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the final stretch of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Line (USBRL), officially connecting Kashmir to the rest of India via rail for the first time in history. The event marked the launch of the world's highest railway arch bridge over the Chenab River and the country's first cable-stayed Anji Bridge. Prime Minister Modi also flagged off two Vande Bharat Express trains from Katra, establishing high-speed rail connectivity between the Jammu division and Kashmir.
