WNBA commentator Rebecca Lobo forced into bizarre on-air U-turn after praising Donald Trump
WNBA legend and ESPN commentator Rebecca Lobo issued a bizarre apology on air for calling America 'great' during the Las Vegas Aces' win over the Indiana Fever.
Lobo, who was named a WNBA All-Star back in 1999, was debating a foul call in Sunday's game with play-by-play announcer Pam Ward when she used a term vaguely similar to Donald Trump 's MAGA catchphrase.
'So they disagree with you?' Ward asked her colleague about the decision made by officials on court.
'They do, and I disagree with them. And that's fine,' Lobo responded before adding, 'that's what makes America great, right Pam Ward?'
After seemingly being left uncomfortable with her choice of wording, Ward stayed silent before Lobo backtracked on the comment in strange fashion.
'I should rephrase that,' the former New York Liberty star said.
Ward then replied: 'Yeah, I did think differences of opinion are perfectly fine.'

'Yes, that's a better way to say it. Sorry about that,' Lobo added.
Fans quickly took to social media to slam Lobo, Ward and ESPN over the awkward moment, which many felt was unnecessary.
'Clearly not political. Just a general statement,' one user posted on X.
'Disgraceful! There is too long a pause after Rebecca said it. Someone in the booth told her rephrase it. There is nothing wrong with what she said, get over yourself woke ESPN. Not everything is political,' wrote another.
A third put: 'Imagine being offended about saying America is great. F***in losers'.
While another simply commented: 'Pathetic moment.'
Lobo has spent over two decades as a commentator for ESPN after joining the network back in 2004, a year after she retired from basketball.
As well as playing for the Liberty, Houston Comets, Springfield Spirit and the Connecticut Sun, the iconic center also won a gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta with Team USA.

Pac-12 extends deal with CBS Sports through 2030-31
June 23 - The Pac-12 Conference and CBS Sports have extended their media partnership through the 2030-31 season. As part of the deal announced Monday, CBS will broadcast the Pac-12 football and men's basketball championship games and at least three regular-season football and men's basketball contests each season starting in 2026-27. The games will also be streamed via Paramount+. Additional Pac-12 football and men's basketball regular-season games will air on CBS Sports Network, with details announced at a later date. "As the new Pac-12's primary media partner, CBS Sports' top-tier coverage will showcase the best of the conference's football and men's basketball games annually across our platforms, including the championship game for both sports," said Dan Weinberg, executive vice president of programming at CBS Sports. "Extending this partnership strengthens our multiplatform college football and basketball schedule and, at a pivotal moment for the new Pac-12, allows us to collaborate, grow the conference and expand its reach." Pac-12 membership has been radically altered since a 2024 realignment saw 10 of 12 members depart, leaving only Oregon State and Washington State. The "new" Pac-12 launches in 2026-27 with the additions of Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State and Utah State. Gonzaga is also coming aboard for sports other than football, and multiple reports have cited Texas State as the favorite to become the Pac-12's eighth football program. The Trump administration said a Salvadoran man who was mistakenly deported and then brought back to the US on criminal charges will "never go free", even though a judge has ordered his Ábrego García was deported in March as part of an immigration crackdown. CNN 's Van Jones blasted liberals for 'underestimating' the threat posed by Iran, hours before the US bombed the nation's nuclear facilities. The former Obama aide made the remarks on CNN's Saturday Morning Table for Five, in a discussion that included Republican commentator Scott Jennings, ex-Biden aide Dan Koh and conservative commentator S.E. Cupp. Both Koh and Cupp had expressed disapproval of President Donald Trump's decision-making leading up to the attack. This earned a stern rebuke from Jones, who demanded that progressives 'get on board' with Trump's position. 'I think progressives underestimate how dangerous Iran is,' he began, as Jennings, fresh off a trip to Israel, nodded his head in approval. 'Iran is not a normal country. Normal countries don't blind women because they showed some hair. 'They don't empower little gangs and proxies to surround a country and fire rockets and rape people,' he continued. 'Two things are clear: the what - they cannot have a bomb.' 'And the why: because they say, "Death to America. Death to Israel. And death to all the Jews." 'One of those should offend you - if you're progressives. At least one should offend you.' He then turned to the 'who' and 'how' of the conflict. The president, meanwhile, deployed B-2 stealth bombersin the attack, after more than a week of strikes by Israel on Iran. On Friday, Trump said he was going to wait two weeks before deciding whether to enter the conflict. Iran has since promised to respond, after saying the strikes on the Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear sites constituted the US 'enter[ing] the war clearly and directly'. The country is currently weighing its military options. It launched a new wave of missiles and drones against Israel Monday.
