Lenyn Sosa homers twice to lead White Sox past Diamondbacks 7-3
CHICAGO (AP) — Lenyn Sosa went deep twice for his first career multi-homer game and finished with a career-high four RBIs to lead the Chicago White Sox past the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-3 on Wednesday.
Andrew Benintendi added a solo shot and rookie catcher Kyle Teel had three hits with an RBI and two runs scored to help last-place Chicago avoid a sweep. Mike Tauchman and Sosa finished with three hits as the White Sox won for just the third time in 14 games.
Arizona's Josh Naylor hit his 10th homer among two hits.
White Sox rookie starter Sean Burke (4-7) allowed two runs on five hits over five innings, striking out seven. Three relievers yielded one unearned run.
Zac Gallen (5-9) permitted five runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. Arizona's ace the past three seasons, the right-hander is 2-5 with a 6.97 ERA in his last nine starts.
White Sox centerfielder Luis Robert Jr. left the game in the first inning with left hamstring tightness.
Arizona second baseman Ketel Marte was hitless a day after he was seen in tears on the field after a spectator yelled a derogatory comment about Marte's late mother during a seventh-inning at-bat. The fan has since been banned from Rate Field.
The White Sox tacked on insurance runs on Sosa's RBI single in the sixth and Chase Meidroth's sac fly in the seventh. Sosa's solo shot in the eighth sealed it at 7-3.

The 29-year-old Gallen had a 43-19 combined record and 3.20 ERA over the past three seasons, and was an All-Star in 2023. He has only one quality start in his last nine and five this season out of 17.

It could end up being one of his own players. Max Fried became the first pitcher to reach 10 wins this season in the New York Yankees 7-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night. Advertisement 'It's down the road. We'll see. He's making the case though,' Boone said about Fried's chances to start the midsummer classic on July 15 in Atlanta. The left-hander allowed one unearned run and four hits while striking out seven to improve to 10-2. Fried is the third Yankees pitcher since 1962 to be the first in the majors to reach double-digit victories, joining CC Sabathia in 2011 and Tommy John in 1979. 'I guess it's cool but we're all here just trying to win games. A lot of it is credit to my teammates. It's nice, but that's more of a team stat than an individual one,' said Fried about reaching double digits in wins. Advertisement Fried signed a $218 million, eight-year contract with the Yankees last December and has excelled in his first year in pinstripes. He quickly became the staff's ace after Gerrit Cole was lost for the season during spring training due to Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. Fried has four games this season where he has gone at least seven innings and not allowed an earned run, tied with Detroit's Tarik Skubal and San Diego's Nick Pivetta for most in the majors. He's second in the majors with a 1.92 ERA and 108 innings. 'Ever since (Cole) went down he's shown us why they paid him what they paid him and why he's the guy we thought he was going to be. Especially someone who I played against for four or five years, to play behind him now is amazing," third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. said. "I always give him his prop and his flowers, but now he can take them any time he wants.' Monterrey advances to knockout rounds at the Club World Cup with 4-0 victory over Urawa

(AP) — Monterrey scored three goals in a 10-minute span of the first half and went on to defeat the Urawa Red Diamonds 4-0 on Wednesday night and advance to the knockout rounds in the Club World Cup. Monterrey finished second in Group E behind Inter Milan, which defeated River Plate 2-0 in a simultaneous game in Seattle. Monterry plays Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday at Atlanta in the round of 16. The match drew just 14,312 to the 89,702-capacity Rose Bowl. Nelson Deossa ripped the ball from 35 yards out that Urawa goalkeeper Shusaku Nishikawa got a hand on but couldn't stop in the 30th minute to put Monterrey up 1-0. In Northwest Division, NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder get deeper, Jazz get busy
After building an NBA championship team with a commitment to young player development, the Oklahoma City Thunder dived back into the draft pool a few days after the celebration. The Thunder used the 15th overall pick in the first round on Wednesday night on Thomas Sorber, a 6-foot-9 versatile defender with the potential to be an effective low-post scorer who played one season in college at Georgetown. Sorber can provide some bulk and depth behind the slender Chet Holmgren and his frontcourt partner, Isaiah Hartenstein. Oklahoma City also had the 24th pick, sending it to Sacramento in a proposed trade. General manager Sam Presti's trades in recent years have allowed the Thunder to stockpile picks for maximum control over the most unpredictable aspect of professional sports. They have as many as 10 first-round picks, including their own, over the next five years, including three in 2026. Last year's first-rounder, point guard Nikola Topic, is nearly recovered from a torn ACL in his left knee that kept him out for his entire rookie season.
