Members of all-party delegation led by Congress MP Tharoor pay tribute at 9/11 Memorial
New York City: Members of the all-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor paid their respects at the 9/11 memorial after their arrival in the US on Saturday (US local time).
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor paid his respects at the memorial along with MP Ganti Harish Madhur, MP Shashank Mani Tripathi, MP Bhubaneswar Kalita, MP Milind Deora and former Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
They were accompanied by India's Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra.
The members paid tributes by offering white roses at the Memorial and folding their hands in obeisance.
As per its official website, the 9/11 Memorial is a tribute of remembrance, honouring the 2,977 people killed in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center site, near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon, as well as the six people killed in the World Trade Center bombing on February 26, 1993.
As per the website, the Memorial is located on eight acres of the 16-acre World Trade Center complex, the 9/11 Memorial is a place of remembrance and contemplation within the bustle of lower Manhattan.
The delegation, which is presently in the United States, will also visit Guyana, Panama, Brazil, and Colombia will be led by Congress' Shashi Tharoor.
The delegation comprises of Shambhavi Chaudhary (Lok Janshakti Party), Sarfaraz Ahmed (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), G M Harish Balayagi (Telugu Desam Party), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejaswi Surya, Bhubaneswar K Lata (all from BJP), Mallikarjun Devda (Shiv Sena) and Former Indian Ambassador to the US,Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
The all-party delegation will project India's national consensus and firm stance on combating terrorism in all its forms. They will carry India's strong message of zero tolerance against terrorism to the global community during their outreach.
A total of 7 groups consisting of 8-9 members from various political parties have been selected by India to represent its stance of zero tolerance against terror and brief the representatives of other countries on Operation Sindoor.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed.
Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen.
After the operation, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control and Jammu and Kashmir as well as attempted drone attacks along the border regions, following which India launched a coordinated attack and damaged radar infrastructure, communication centres and airfields across 11 airbases in Pakistan. On May 10, an understanding of the cessation of hostilities between the countries was announced.

Federal govt will step in, says Trump amid tensions in Los Angeles over immigration operations
Los Angeles: Protests broke out in the city of Paramount, Los Angeles, on Saturday after it appeared that federal law enforcement officers were conducting another operation, CBS News reported. The protests were sparked by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation in Los Angeles, which resulted in multiple arrests on Friday. The department reported a large crowd gathered on the 6400 block of Paramount Boulevard at around 12:42 pm, blocking traffic, as per CBS News. Following the protests, Trump shared a post on his 'Truth Social', saying "If Governor Gavin Newscum, of California, and Mayor Karen Bass, of Los Angeles, can't do their jobs, which everyone knows they can't, then the Federal Government will step in and solve the problem, RIOTS & LOOTERS, the way it should be solved!!!" While addressing a press conference Saturday afternoon, Sheriff Robert Luna said that up to 400 people gathered for protests in Paramount, prompting the department to declare an unlawful assembly. Authorities urged the crowd to "disperse peacefully without any violence." He said that non-lethal munitions were fired by federal agents prior to deputies' arrival. According to CBS News, the California Highway Patrol is preparing for potential protests on the 710 Freeway, but as of 3 pm, no freeway lanes have been obstructed. US, China to hold trade talks in London next week
Washington, DC: US President Donald Trump on Friday announced that US and Chinese representatives will meet in London on June 9 for talks to resolve trade dispute, a day after calling his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping. The meeting aims to discuss the trade deal between the two countries. Sharing a post on his Truth Social account, Trump wrote, "I am pleased to announce that Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and United States Trade Representative, Ambassador Jamieson Greer, will be meeting in London on Monday, June 9, 2025, with Representatives of China, with reference to the Trade Deal." "The meeting should go very well. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" he added. On Thursday, Trump said he had a "good conversation" with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, and they straightened out any complexity. He stated that the US has a deal with China, but they were straightening out some of the points. Speaking to reporters at the White House on Thursday (local time), Trump stated that Xi Jinping invited him to China and that he had accepted the invitation. He also mentioned that he had invited Xi to the US. Trump stated that the US is in "very good shape" with China and the trade deal. Regarding his telephonic conversation with Xi Jinping, Trump said, "We had a very good talk and we've straightened out any complexity. It's very complex stuff and we straighten it out. The agreement was we're going to have Scott and Howard and Jameson will be going and meeting with their top people and continue it forward. But no, I think we have everything. I think we're in very good shape with China and the trade deal. We have a deal with China, as you know, but we were straightening out some of the points, having to do mostly with rare earth, magnets and some other things." Trump also shared details regarding his conversation with Xi on his social media platform Truth Social. He stated that the call lasted for one and a half hours and resulted in a "very positive conclusion of both nations." The talks between the two leaders come days after Trump accused China of breaching a deal negotiated between officials of the two nations in Geneva last month to roll back high tariffs for 90 days. However, China rejected Trump's allegations on Monday and accused the US of provoking "new economic and trade frictions." On May 30, Trump accused China of violating a recent trade agreement with the US. However, he did not mention China's action that violated its agreement with China.
