What People Are Saying
USPS in a press release from Memorial Day 2024: "Although there will be no regular mail service, Priority Mail Express is delivered 365 days a year and will be delivered."
The press release added: "For 24/7 access to most postal products and services, go to www.usps.com, where you can look up a ZIP Code, track a package, buy stamps, hold mail, print postage online, submit a change of address, schedule a package pickup and find USPS locations including self-service kiosks."
The National Archives in a webpage about Memorial Day: "Memorial Day, initially referred to as Decoration Day, was observed by many communities after the Civil War, when the nation suffered more than 620,000 military deaths, roughly 2 percent of the total population at the time. John A. Logan, the Commander-in-Chief of the Grand Army of Republic, chose May 30, 1868, as a day to decorate the graves of Union troops across the nation. From this beginning, Memorial Day is now designated as an annual day of remembrance to honor all those who have died in service to the United States during peace and war. Veterans Day, November 11, celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans."
What Happens Next
The next U.S. federal holiday is Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S., on June 19. USPS services will be closed, but UPS and FedEx services will operate as normal.

How the Logistics Industry Is Unlocking Youth Employment Opportunities in South Africa
With South Africa's youth unemployment rate sitting at a staggering 62.4%, finding sustainable job opportunities for young people has become an urgent national priority. While many sectors are stagnating, logistics is booming – fueled by the rise of e-commerce, digital innovation and global trade – creating a new wave of career paths. 'From supply chain analytics and IT systems integration to customer experience and compliance, logistics is evolving into a dynamic, tech-enabled industry that offers diverse professional avenues for South Africa's youth,' said Gregory Saffy, managing director for Sub-Saharan African Operations at FedEx. While traditional roles like drivers, packers and sorters will always be essential, they are increasingly supported by technology-driven processes. This shift creates additional opportunities for young people looking for more technology focused roles. 'Logistics isn't what it used to be,' said Saffy. 'The real competitive advantage now lies in digital capability, especially in areas like data analytics and systems thinking. We're seeing more engineers and analysts in the business than ever before, guiding operations and enabling automation at scale.' Beyond data analytics and IT roles, compliance and customs clearance are also emerging as key growth areas for job creation. Saffy highlights the development of a formalised customs qualification as a major step forward for the industry. 'We're seeing progress in the creation of a national customs clearance certification that will give individuals a recognised qualification, including those with practical experience but no matric pass,' said Saffy. 'This will create a clear career path and raise the overall standard of compliance across the industry.' FedEx is already enrolling its customs clerks into newly developed courses in freight forwarding and customs compliance. In addition to formalising technical knowledge, these programmes also focus on future-ready skills like digital literacy, data analysis and critical thinking. For young people without access to formal education, FedEx offers a clear entry point through its Yes Learnerships. 'Our 12-month programme combines training, mentoring and practical work experience,' said Saffy. 'Since 2019, we've onboarded more than 150 unemployed youth through YES, with more than 60 going on to become permanent employees. It's a powerful model for bridging the gap between education and employment.' In parallel, FedEx runs a dedicated learnership programme for youth living with disabilities, offering an NQF Level 4 certificate in business administration. This includes coaching, blended learning and real-world operational experience – helping to build inclusive, work-ready skills pipelines. FedEx commitment to building inclusive talent pipelines is a powerful example of how private sector investment in skills development can help unlock opportunities and start turning the tide on youth unemployment. 'Logistics is a gateway to global trade,' said Saffy. 'It's no longer just about moving parcels; it's about managing complexity in a fast-paced, tech-driven environment. With the right support and training, South Africa's youth can thrive in this space.' Click here to learn about FedEx Cares, our global community engagement program. BallotTrax™ Secures Second U.S. Patent for Mail Ballot Tracking and Voter Notification System
DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--i3logix, the Denver-based software company behind BallotTrax ™, the country's first and only patented mail-ballot tracking and notification system, has been awarded a second new U.S. patent, solidifying its market position to deliver proactive ballot status alerts to voters. U.S. Patent No. 12,340,633, issued June 24, 2025, with a priority date of February 2, 2010, expands the company's IP protections. BallotTrax™ is now the only system with patented technology to notify voters—via text, email, or voice—of their ballot's status at each step of the mail voting process. 'Ballot status notifications have become one of the most cherished features of vote-by-mail systems,' said Steve Olsen, CEO of i3logix. 'Now that our technology is protected by patent, we're ensuring that counties and states can continue providing these critical alerts legally, reliably, and securely. Voter confidence depends on it.' The BallotTrax™ system receives data from ballot printers, election systems, and USPS scans. An intelligent barcode, linked to the voter's ID, is printed on outbound and inbound envelopes—never on the ballot itself—preserving privacy while enabling transparency. Voters choose how and when to receive alerts, with customizable delivery methods, languages, and notification windows. Counties use BallotTrax™ to automate outreach for issues such as signature mismatches or ballot rejections, and to offer helpful reminders and drop-off options. Vote-by-mail has surged in popularity since 2020, and BallotTrax™ now serves 19 states and nearly 400 counties—tracking approximately one in every four ballots cast in the United States. The company's first patent, issued in 2023, established a foundation for secure mail ballot tracking. The newly awarded patent expands those protections to cover additional aspects of the platform's architecture, alerting mechanisms, and voter customization features—ensuring that the BallotTrax™ intellectual property remains the only fully protected and compliant solution on the market. 'This patent underscores our leadership in secure, compliant, and voter-centric election technology,' Olsen added. 'We're committed to protecting the integrity of our system and ensuring that election officials have the most technologically advanced and protected system on the market.' Counties using BallotTrax™ report reduced administrative costs, improved vendor accountability, and significantly enhanced voter trust. i3logix continues to expand its IP portfolio and work closely with jurisdictions to ensure compliance ahead of upcoming elections.
