During this period, a total of 383,436 tonnes of goods crossed through the border. Customs revenue surged to 243 trillion Iranian rials, marking a 236% rise compared with the same period last year. The exports covered a diverse range of products, including agricultural produce, petrochemical derivatives, power plant equipment, construction materials, ceramics, tiles, as well as metal and plastic goods.
In addition to the expanding trade volume, more than 1.028 million travelers passed through the Mehran border during the two months. Kamari emphasized that customs clearance for passengers' belongings was handled with ''maximum efficiency'', crediting the efforts of Ilam's customs personnel.

Iraq's gold reserves rise 4.7% in H1 2025
Shafaq News – Baghdad Iraq's gold reserves increased in value by 4.76% during the first half of 2025, driven by higher global gold prices, the economic observatory ECO Iraq reported on Tuesday. Iraq currently holds 162 tons of gold as part of its national reserves. The value of one ton rose from $105M in January 2025 to $110M by the end of June, directly boosting the total value of the country's gold holdings. The observatory noted that the recent rise in global gold prices reflects broader market volatility and has affected reserve valuations across many countries, including Iraq. Regular monitoring of gold prices, it said, allows Iraq to more accurately assess its reserves and take economic measures to safeguard purchasing power. In July, the Central Bank of Iraq confirmed the trend, reporting an increase in the value of gold within Iraq's foreign currency reserves. According to official statistics, the value of gold reached 22.492T IQD in April, up 5.62% from 21.228T in March. The figure also marked a 17.72% rise from December 2024, when gold stood at 17.834T IQD, and a sharp increase compared with December 2023, when reserves were valued at 12.293T.

Iraq and Kurdistan move closer to agreement on oil exports and salaries

According to a statement, Minister Mohammed Ali Tamim chaired a joint meeting in Baghdad with officials from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to review outstanding files between the two sides, including oil production and exports, non-oil revenues, and the unification of salary payments for employees under a ruling by the Federal Supreme Court. The statement said that significant steps had been completed on the oil file, with all requirements in place to begin production and exports through Iraq's State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO). Talks are continuing on the remaining issues, particularly the mechanisms for managing revenues and finalizing the payroll system. For years, Erbil and Baghdad have been at odds over the Kurdish Region's independent oil sales and the payment of civil servant salaries, a dispute that has repeatedly strained relations and delayed federal budget transfers.

UN 'optimistic' on resolving Erbil–Baghdad disputes
Shafaq News – Baghdad The UN Special Representative for Iraq, Mohamed al-Hassan, voiced optimism on Tuesday about the prospect of an agreement between the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to resolve their longstanding disputes. Speaking after a memorial service in Baghdad for victims of the 2003 UN headquarters bombing, al-Hassan underlined his strong ties with the Iraqi and Kurdish leaders and described their engagement as encouraging. 'I am optimistic that Erbil and Baghdad can reach a good formula to address their differences,' he told reporters. Al-Hassan noted that Kurdistan Region's leadership 'always stresses the importance of preserving Iraq and implementing the constitution in all its provisions,' adding that current conditions offer a real opportunity for progress. A government source told Shafaq News on Monday that a KRG delegation is scheduled to begin meetings with Iraqi counterparts today to address salary payment mechanisms—a sticking point that remains among the most contentious issues between the two sides. The upcoming meeting follows a recent agreement between the Kurdistan Region's Ministry of Natural Resources and Iraq's Oil Ministry on an oil export mechanism, an essential step for enabling salary disbursements.
