‘I am upset' – Ryan Giggs opens up on being excluded from Premier League Hall of Fame

RYAN GIGGS has broken his silence on his omission from the Premier League Hall of Fame.
Launched in 2020, the Premier League Hall of Fame recognises and honours iconic players and managers in the division's history.

So far, this has seen 22 players and two managers inducted into the coveted list since the inaugural inductions took place in 2021.
However, Giggs, the Premier League's most decorated player with 13 titles, holds the record for assists with 162 and for scoring goals in consecutive seasons (21) and is third on the all-time appearance list, is not included and has never been nominated.
The 51-year-old, who in 2012 was voted the league's best player at the 20 Seasons Awards, retired from professional football in 2014 after a 24-year spell with Manchester United.
The flying winger-turned midfield maestro also earned 64 caps for the Welsh National Team and represented Team GB at the London Olympics in 2012.
After hanging up his boots, he moved into coaching - initially as assistant to Louis van Gaal - before becoming the head coach of Wales in 2018.
But Giggs' career was thrown into chaos in November 2020 when he was arrested under suspicion of two counts of assault against his ex-girlfriend Kate Greville, and her younger sister, Emma.
Giggs always denied the charges but stepped down as Wales boss in June 2022 due to his upcoming trial on the case.
He was later cleared of assaulting Greville, who declined to co-operate with a retrial, in 2023, before also being cleared on further counts of coercive or controlling behaviour against her and common assault against Emma.
Giggs has been without a coaching job since the allegations came to light.
And asked whether he was bothered by his snub from the Hall of Fame list by former colleague Rio Ferdinand, Giggs told his podcast Rio Ferdinand Presents: "Not really.
Gary Neville reveals fear with Liverpool to become most successful English team ever
"No, I mean, I don't think about it until you just brought it up. I don't think about it.
"I think when you start off, you don't… These are the things that you're not striving for.
"You're striving off to win games and try and win trophies. That's the most important thing for me."
However, Giggs had a change of heart when Ferdinand revealed he had been inducted.
Giggs joked: "Now I am upset. Now I am... Jeez, what's going on? I'm going to look at the list now when I go home."
He then aimed another cheeky joke towards fellow Class of 92 member Gary Neville, asking if he had made it, to which Ferdinand replied: "No, I don't think Nev's on it yet.
"He'll get on it soon. He'll talk his way into it, won't he?"
The pair then spoke about legacy and how Giggs wants to be remembered, considering his recent controversies, with an eight-year affair with his brother Rhodri's wife also raising his notoriety.
He said: "I did want to entertain. I wanted to entertain in training. I wanted to entertain myself.
"So I wanted to… At United, you've got to win. But at the same time, if you can entertain and try things - you know, try little nutmegs, try little tricks, try and take players on…"
Former Man Utd stars to be inducted into the list include: David Beckham, Roy Keane, Eric Cantona, Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand and Andy Cole.
The shortlist of 2025 candidates is yet to be revealed.

Basketball to start two days before LA28 opening ceremony

Aug 20 (Reuters) - Basketball at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will begin two days before the opening ceremony takes place on July 14, the sport's governing body (FIBA) said on Wednesday. "This adjustment allows the quarter-finals to be played over two days and will also ensure that no game will start earlier than 12:00 PM, enhancing the overall experience for players, teams, fans and broadcasters," FIBA said after a meeting of its Executive Committee. According to a preliminary version of the competition schedule released by organizers of the 2028 Olympics last month, the basketball medal matches will be held on July 29 and 30. The basketball competition will take place at the Inglewood Dome, with the United States looking to defend their men's and women's titles. The 3x3 basketball competitions is scheduled to start after the opening ceremony. A number of other sports like cricket, soccer, handball, field hockey and rugby sevens are also scheduled to begin before the opening ceremony.

Mitchell embraces favourites tag as Red Roses eye World Cup glory

They arrive at their home tournament as the world's number one side, courtesy of a seventh consecutive Six Nations title. But while they've reached the last six World Cup finals - they've only won once. "It doesn't really matter. We start the tour equal like everyone else. Being favourites is irrelevant to us. We've just got to earn the right each week," said Mitchell. "It's a huge vehicle for us to have presence. I heard a few months ago that before this tournament a few years ago, as far back as 2018 we only had 1% watching. By the end of 2025 we'll have something like 20%. That's still not enough. The only way we can have a presence is being watched and this is simply a vehicle for women's rugby and English rugby to prosper from. "I don't believe that we can talk in the future or the past either. We must deal with the present. We have to earn the right over the next three weeks to progress any further so that's where our focus is." Mitchell has named an unchanged 23 to the team that beat France in their final warm-up match for the opening group match with the USA at Sunderland's Stadium of Light. "We are trying to build cohesion," added Mitchell, whose most marginal selection appeared choosing Loughborough Lightning's Sadia Kabeya at openside flanker ahead of former captain Marlie Packer. "We're not like the southern hemisphere teams which have had a lot of rugby. We are just building so it's important you have combinations that the players are familiar with. "We do have history together. Over the last three years something like 1,200 caps are spread among those girls and that's a lot of experience and a lot of belief and you must play those cards in a tournament like this. "Every team will rise 10 or 15% because they're playing against England. That's what we expect. We realise we're hunted but we look forward to that as well. "The USA are well into their programme, we're starting out, so it's really important to focus on ourselves. We understand their threats, it's not that we don't look at their threats, but we focus on what we do and how we improve our margins and make sure we fall above our standards." Trailfinders Women's Meg Jones insists the team are straining at the leash to tackle the USA - with a record crowd of over 40,000 expected as the Red Roses take temporary focus away from the Black Cats in Wearside. "We've trained so much. I'm sick of training against each other. I want some opposition," she said. "I couldn't have asked for a better group to be around and I think that's going to bring us so much trust going into this, because I trust that group now and I know everyone's out to help each other. "When we go into big pressure situations and your backs against the wall, you want to look to your left and your right and know that you've got an emotional connection with someone." With more than 330,000 tickets already sold, and prices starting at just £5 for children and £10 for adults, fans are encouraged to secure their tickets now via
