How hot are seats of Sixers' Nick Nurse, Daryl Morey amid tough season?
The Philadelphia 76ers struggled through a miserable 24-58 season in 2024-25. This was not supposed to happen after all of the moves they made in the 2024 offseason as they loaded up the roster to contend for a championship.
The Sixers snagged 9-time All-Star Paul George in free agency on a 4-year $212 million deal, they extended Joel Embiid for another three years, kept Tyrese Maxey in tow long term, and filled the roster with proven veteran role players. Unfortunately, Embiid played only 19 games, George played 41, and the star trio only played 18 games together--finishing 15 of those games.
Due to the bad luck, coach Nick Nurse and President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey still have their jobs. It is very hard to justify moving on from either after a perfect storm of everything that could go wrong did. One can't control injuries and the Sixers understand that which is why both men still have their jobs.
With that being said, one has to wonder how hot the seats are heading into 2025-26. ESPN's Brian Windhorst hopped on "The Stephen A. Smith Show" and stated:
I think they (team governors Josh Harris and David Blitzer) are giving him the grace that this was a terrible year in terms of injury and misfortune.
What I would say to both Daryl and Nick is, you have no margin for error now. If next year isn't an excellent year—I would say that the hottest seats in the NBA right now are probably Daryl Morey and Nick Nurse.
The Sixers are very confident that if they get all three players back healthy in 2025-26, then they are serious contenders in the East. It makes a lot of sense to think that way as those three stars are three of the best in the league with Embiid being a top 3 player when he's healthy while Maxey is only getting better.
The issue is that George will turn 35 on May 2 while Embiid will be battling from yet another knee surgery. While Embiid is superhuman--he has battled through a ton of injuries in his career--one has to wonder how long he can really keep playing at such an elite level after what is his second knee surgery in 14 months.
Nurse and Morey don't deserve to be fired after what transpired in 2024-25. They will get another chance with this group, but like Windhorst said, their seats will certainly be hot heading into the new season.

The collegiate star did not work out for anybody heading into the draft as it appeared he had a target in mind. The Sixers ended up selecting Baylor guard VJ Edgecombe at No. 3 overall. Former All-Star guard Jeff Teague wasn't happy with Bailey's draft strategy and criticized the future NBA star. In the same breath, he gave a lot of love and praise to Sixers forward Justin Edwards: That's the dumbest move I've ever heard from an agent in my life…His agent is horrible… you don't have to work out, but you can go meet with the teams… Nobody else is declining them, Dylan Harper ain't declining them… Tre Johnson not declining them. They got a player that's better than him in Philly--Edwards, I swear Edwards is nice…He just got messed up in that Kentucky system, but he can really hoop. Edwards, who the Sixers just agreed to a 3-year deal with, averaged 10.1 points as an undrafted rookie in the 2024-25 season. He will now look to build on that and continue to move forward. He has the chance to be in coach Nick Nurse's rotation as he looks to build and develop in this league.

Sixers rookie Johni Broome describes himself as a leader, teammate
CAMDEN, N.J. -- Philadelphia 76ers rookie big man Johni Broome is carrying a bit of a chip on his shoulder after sliding to the Sixers in Round 2 of the 2025 NBA draft with overall pick No. 35. A decorated player during his career at Auburn, Broome will be looking to make an impact. When considering the Sixers could lose Guerschon Yabusele in free agency, one has to believe Broome would have an opportunity open for himself as a rookie in Philadelphia. Either way, he will be looking to contribute and he feels like he can do so in a variety of ways. "I would say my will to win and hating to lose," Broome said on Friday. "When you hate losing, you do whatever it takes. If that's owning up to your mistake or calling out one of your teammate's mistakes. I think that's what helps winning, when everybody's bought in and everybody's on the same page of wanting to win. I think that's just where it comes from." Broome averaged 18.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game in the 2024-25 season for the Tigers. He was named SEC Player of the Year as he dominated in the toughest conference in college basketball. His personality is all about winning as he had a ton of success in college that he hopes to bring to the NBA. "I think I'll fit in great," Broome added. "I have a great personality. I love to laugh, I love to have fun, but I also love to compete, love to win. I'm going to compete on the court and going to be a little more fiery on the court, but off the court, in the locker room, I'm a good guy and fun guy to be around." The good thing for Broome is that he won't be expected to lead the way for the Sixers. That responsibility falls to Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey as Philadelphia will look to its Big 3 in an effort to push forward in the 2025-26 season. Broome will just be looking to learn and develop into an elite NBA player at this level.

ESPN gives the Philadelphia 76ers high marks for 2025 draft results
The Philadelphia 76ers made a couple of selections in the 2025 NBA draft as they picked Baylor star VJ Edgecombe with the No. 3 overall pick in Round 1 and then Auburn star Johni Broome No. 35 overall in Round 2. The two of them are expected to help the Sixers move forward on their championship path. The Sixers are expected have Edgecombe join a talented, but small, backcourt. Philadelphia will have Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain, Edgecombe, and possibly Quentin Grimes in the backcourt in 2025-26. Maxey, McCain, and Edgecombe are all smaller guards, but they all can score and make a big impact in their own way on the basketball court. The Sixers have a chance to be dynamic at the guard position. ESPN gave their draft grades for 2025 and the Sixers received a B+ for their rookie class: Although Knueppel was a little ahead in my projections, I probably would have taken Edgecombe here, too. I like his defensive base, with a sky-high steal rate at Baylor, and athleticism to become a shot creator. Knueppel might have fit more cleanly with Joel Embiid, but given the state of Embiid's health, I'm not sure that should be Philadelphia's primary timeline anymore. A consensus first-team All-America pick last season, Broome could help the Sixers immediately. He brings more skill to the center spot than the backups (Andre Drummond and Adem Bona) who struggled to fill in for Embiid last season. The Sixers could have selected Kon Knueppel, which would have been another solid pick for No. 3, but Edgecombe is a much more athletic player and can help on the defensive end right away. Broome, on the other hand, is a burly, but skilled big man who will be able to learn from the likes of Joel Embiid and Andre Drummond at the big man spot as he moves forward in his rookie season.
