Terrifying moment police officer saves man's life after 'scary f***' 160mph chase that saw driver weaving through traffic and 'brake-checking' cops
Shocking police dashcam footage captured wanted criminal Patrick Connors, 45, hurtling down the M1 and M69 in a powerful BMW 5 Series.
Connors shot past cards on the busy motorways at a speed of 60mph, prompting one police officer to say in response: 'That was scary as ****.'
Officers had started following Connors on February 19 as he was wanted for failing to appear in court for fraud charges in Wrexham, north Wales, in 2024.
During the 20 minute pursuit, described by police as 'high risk', Connors ran a red light and sped along the hard shoulder of the motorway at 130mph.
Then, while being chased by officers, he twice attempted to 'brake check' the police car by swerving across the middle and fast lane.
Eventually, the fugitive was caught when he suddenly stopped the car in the fast lane before scrambling out and running towards the central barrier.
The terrifying footage shows a quick-thinking officer begging Connors not to attempt to run across the opposite motorway, shouting: 'Don't go across the carriageway, you'll get killed.
'Don't do it buddy. Don't do it.'
He then gestures to Connors, stating: 'Come here, come here, don't do it. Mate, come here. Just stay there'.
The police officer behind the camera is then heard shouting 'help me' to other officers at the scene as he attempts to hold Connor's down.
The officer, who tells Connors to 'just chill', then manages to grab his T-shirt and wrestle him to the ground before placing handcuffs on him.
In response, Connors insists: 'I've got arthritis, you dragged me over the barrier mate', to which the officer then quips: 'Well you were jumping over the motorway barrier a minute ago.
'I didn't want you getting run over, I probably saved your life.'
At Mold Crown Court this week, Connors, of Queensferry, Wales, admitted dangerous driving and failing to stop.
The 45-year-old also admitting acquiring criminal property, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.
The court heard he gave false details to police and had previously used 17 aliases.
He received a jail sentence of three years and was also banned from driving for five years.

Father savagely stabbed in head while protecting his family as machete-wielding gang storms family home in Melbourne
A father has been stabbed in the head and face after five masked intruders, including one armed with a machete, stormed his family home in one of Melbourne's richest suburbs. The 39-year-old man and his wife were asleep in their Kew East property when, just after 4am, a gang of thugs allegedly forced their way into the Oxford Street home and dragged the terrified couple into separate rooms. The father 'put up a fight' when he confronted the intruders, while the grandparents were also injured after trying to come to his aid. 'The husband was then stabbed multiple times to the head, face and arms,' Victoria Police said. The mother was forced into the bedroom where her two young children were still in bed, while her husband was brutally attacked, with the intruders allegedly warning her not to step outside. The father, left bleeding from horrific stab wounds, was rushed to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. His wife was treated at the scene for cuts and bruises. Miraculously, the couple's two toddlers, just two and three years old, were not harmed during the terrifying ordeal. The grandparents, aged 69 and 70, were also caught up in the chaos and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A fifth adult in the house escaped without physical harm. Four of the masked offenders fled in the victim's luxury BMW, while a fifth escaped in the car they had arrived in. The stolen BMW was later dumped on Christie Street in Deer Park, where police quickly tracked down three of the alleged attackers on nearby Hamilton Street. A 24-year-old man and two teenagers, aged just 16 and 17, were charged with a string of offences, including aggravated home invasion, intentionally causing serious injury, and false imprisonment. Two other suspects remain on the run. Boroondara Detective Sergeant Leanne Trussler was left shocked by the attacks. 'I've never seen anything like this,' she said. 'This is awful, a family, two adults, two children aged two and three, and the grandparents are sleeping in their home at nearly 4 o'clock in the morning. 'The house is secure, they're meant to be safe, and they've woken up and been treated like this. 'It's their home, or their castle, as they say. You should be safe, you shouldn't be disrespected in your home and having people come in at that time of night and doing that to your family.' She said the 39-year-old victim remained in hospital and would require surgery. 'He has a fractured left arm, he has a number of cuts all over his face and he is going to need surgery on his eye,' Detective Sergeant Trussler said.

Only serious punishment will deter shoplifters
Most acquisitive crimes such as burglaries and muggings are committed by a small number of offenders. The same is true of shoplifting. The great majority of people are law-abiding and would never dream of stealing. They are angered by the way in which the lawless minority can get away with their behaviour without any apparent penalty. If they are able to do so they will carry on stealing, targeting more shops. The obvious remedy is to ensure that prolific shoplifters are caught and punished, both to take them out of circulation and to demonstrate the consequences of their actions. It is called deterrence and our criminal justice system is supposedly founded on its nostrums. But that can no longer be said. Ministry of Justice (MoJ) figures show that nearly six in 10 thieves with at least 15 previous offences avoided prison last year, the highest proportion since records began more than a decade ago. One offender with 315 previous convictions caught stealing a £495 designer handbag from Fenwicks store in Newcastle was given a 'last chance' by a court, despite breaching a suspended jail sentence and community order. People will be astonished to discover just how many crimes need to be carried out before a jail term is handed down. It has become even less likely that these crooks will be sent to prison given the backlog in court hearings and the overflowing prisons. The police are often blamed for refusing to investigate shoplifting or even burglaries. But they have a point if the criminals they apprehend are simply sent packing with a rap on the knuckles. Katy Bourne, Sussex's police and crime commissioner, said last week that the current system is madness. Most people would agree with her.
