Saudi Arabia announces Hajj visa rules
Saudi Arabia has clarified Hajj visa and permit rules for visitors, citizens and residents.
In preparation for this year's Hajj season, 1446 AH, the Ministry of Interior announced several arrangements and procedures aimed at preserving the safety of pilgrims and enabling them to perform the Hajj ritual in safety, ease, and peace of mind.
Saudi Hajj rules
Details of procedures include:
First: The last date for Umrah visa holders to enter Saudi Arabia was Sunday (Shawwal 15, 1446 AH, corresponding to April 13, 2025)
Second: The last date for Umrah visa holders to leave the Kingdom is Tuesday (Dhu al-Qi'dah 1, 1446 AH, corresponding to April 29, 2025)
Third: Starting Wednesday (Shawwal 25, 1446 AH, corresponding to April 23, 2025), residents within the Kingdom wishing to enter Makkah will be required to obtain permits from the relevant authorities. Residents without proper permits will be barred from entering the city of Makkah and will be returned to their original destination. Exemptions apply to residents who hold a work permit in the Holy Sites issued by the relevant authority, those holding a resident ID issued by the city of Makkah, or those with valid Hajj permits. Entry permits to the city of Makkah for residents working during the Hajj season are issued electronically via the 'Absher Individuals' and 'Muqeem Portal'
Fourth: Suspending the issuance of Umrah permits through the 'Nusuk' platform for citizens of the Kingdom, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, residents within the Kingdom, and holders of other visas from Tuesday (1 Dhu al-Qi'dah 1446 AH, corresponding to April 29, 2025) until Monday (14 Dhu al-Hijjah 1446 AH, corresponding to June 10, 2025)
Fifth: No one holding any type of visa will be permitted to enter or remain in the city of Makkah, with the exception of those holding Hajj visas, effective Tuesday (1 Dhu al-Qi'dah 1446 AH, corresponding to April 29, 2025)
The Ministry of Interior called for adherence to the regulations governing this year's Hajj season and cooperation with relevant authorities to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims, affirming that violating these instructions will result in legal penalties in Saudi Arabia.

Umrah visa applicants now required to upload hotel bookings via Nusuk Masar
RIYADH — The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced that confirmed hotel bookings through the Nusuk Masar platform are now mandatory for all Umrah visa applicants for the 1447H (2025) season. The Ministry confirmed the new requirement on its official X platform, stating: 'To improve service standards and enrich the pilgrim experience, housing documentation through Nusuk Masar is now required for all 1447H Umrah visa issuances.' Under the new rules, all Umrah operators and agents are required to limit accommodations to hotels licensed and approved by the Ministry of Tourism. Contracts must be documented and uploaded via the Nusuk Masar platform to ensure transparency and quality assurance. Jordan: Jaber Border Crossing expands operations amid surge in traffic
AMMAN — Minister of Interior Mazen Farayah on Tuesday conducted an inspection visit to the Jaber Border Crossing to review operational procedures and assess services provided to travellers, amid a significant uptick in both passenger and freight traffic. Farayah emphasised that the Ministry of Interior is implementing a comprehensive vision to upgrade the Kingdom's border facilities, noting that the Jaber crossing has witnessed a notable increase in activity at various levels. The minister also stressed the need for intensified efforts to maintain a secure and efficient environment for travellers, while ensuring that services meet the highest standards During his meeting with staff at the crossing, the minister reaffirmed the ministry's prioritisation of border posts and crossings, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The Jaber crossing is currently undergoing major expansion works, including the construction of fully equipped new halls to better accommodate incoming and outgoing travellers. The upgrades are part of a broader government plan to modernise infrastructure and enhance the quality of services at border entry points, Farayah said. The expansion comes in response to a sharp rise in passenger flow, with traffic through Jaber in the first five months of this year doubling compared with the same period in 2024. The crossing has now become the third-busiest point of entry in the Kingdom, following Queen Alia International Airport and the Omari Border Crossing. Farayah also noted that Jaber now operates 24/7 for both passenger and freight movement, marking a milestone in service delivery and operational capacity. Addressing the issue of Syrian refugee returns, the minister said that around 80,000 Syrians have voluntarily returned to their country through the crossing in recent months, a reflection of improving security conditions and increased coordination between Amman and Damascus. On freight transport, Farayah reported a record-breaking volume of activity, with around 3,200 trucks crossing in both directions on a single day ahead of Eid Al-Adha, the highest daily figure ever recorded at the crossing. While acknowledging existing challenges related to customs clearance on the Syrian side, he noted that Syrian authorities are making tangible efforts to address these issues. He emphasised that coordination between the two countries continues through official channels, including ongoing communication with his Syrian counterpart, to bolster cooperation and facilitate the smooth movement of people and goods. Farayah also highlighted the strategic importance of the Jaber Border Crossing as a key gateway linking Jordan with Syria and as a critical hub for regional trade and transit.
