Cheap tickets for Hong Kong Cinema Day draw fans and calls for more promotions
Hong Kong film lovers making the most of the annual
Cinema Day discounts have called for such promotions to be offered more often, while local productions emerged as popular choices.

Residents could buy tickets for HK$30 for any screenings at cinemas across the city on Saturday, with some film-goers snapping up the tickets earlier in the week when sales opened.
Among cinema-goers in Causeway Bay was retiree Cara Tang and her husband, who queued for more than half an hour online to get their tickets on Wednesday for the Hong Kong film
Vital Signs , a drama about two paramedics.
'We've wanted to watch this film since it came out earlier this month and decided to watch it today because cheap tickets are on offer,' Tang, 69, said.
'We chose Times Square because the timing fitted our schedule better than the screening in Central. We normally go to cinemas on weekdays when we can use our senior discounts. They are not usually available on weekends.'

A satirical jab on a comedy show has thrown South Korea 's would-be first ladies into the political spotlight, as their rising visibility on the campaign trail fuels controversy ahead of the June 3 presidential election Seol Nan-young, wife of conservative People Power Party (PPP) candidate Kim Moon-soo, targeted Kim Hye-kyung – the spouse of Democratic Party front-runner Lee Jae-myung – during last week's episode of Saturday Night Live Korea, a local adaptation of the American sketch comedy show. In the segment, Seol appeared as herself and mocked a comedian playing the wife of her husband's political rival, warning: 'Do not use [a government-issued] corporate credit card.' The joke referred to a real-life scandal involving Kim Hye-kyung, who in May was fined 1.5 million won (US$1,100) by a local high court for misusing a government card while her husband was governor of Gyeonggi province. The court found that her actions, which included buying meals for spouses of Democratic Party lawmakers, served her husband's political interests during his 2021 presidential campaign. Hong Kong or Singapore? Blackpink's mainland fans tackle tough ticket questions
Mainland Chinese visitors are expected to flock to Hong Kong in January next year for two concerts by K-pop superstars Blackpink , with fans trying to work out how to get their hands on tickets, the cheapest way to watch the shows and whether tour stops such as Singapore may be a better bet to see the girl group. The group's agency, YG Entertainment, this week revealed that Blackpink's 'Deadline' world tour would end at Hong Kong's Kai Tak Stadium , following stops in South Korea, Taiwan, Bangkok, the Philippines, Singapore and Tokyo. The four-member group – comprising Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rose – will also be performing in Europe and North America over the summer, with the news sending Blinks – a term used to describe the group's most devoted fans – into a frenzy. Tickets for Blackpink's two shows at Kai Tak Sports Park's main stadium are priced from HK$699 (US$90), while the most expensive VIP package costs HK$3,499, as local promoter Live Nation revealed the seat map for their stage on Friday. Ticket sales will start on June 10 in an official fan club presale, followed by a Visa credit card presale and booking platform presale. General sales will begin on June 13 at 11am through the ticketing platform Cityline.
