MALAYSIAN ice rinks clinched the top two spots in the Skate Malaysia 2025 championship.
Sunway Pyramid Ice defended its first place, marking the fourth consecutive year it won the title.
Blue Ice Skating Rink @ KL East Mall secured second place.
Third place went to Sub Zero Sukhumvit from Thailand, while Oasis Centre Arena and BX Rink, both from Indonesia, finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Four of the five athletes named as the top five best performers were also Malaysians, according to a statement by Sunway Pyramid Ice, which hosted the competition.
They were Cassius Leong and Jenelle Sia Ee Xuenn from Sunway Pyramid Ice, and Chanice Low Xin Yu and Elizabeth Kim Niang Huai from Blue Ice Skating Rink @ KL East Mall.
The fifth athlete was Thailand's Maneejan Wilairat of Sub-Zero Ice Skate Club Mega Bangna.
Jenelle, 14, performed alongside students from Sunway Pyramid Ice Academy to welcome guests and visiting countries during the competition's opening ceremony.
Present at the opening ceremony were Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng, Skate Malaysia competition director and Ice Skating Institute Asia president Harry Janto Leo and Ice Skating Association of Malaysia president Billy Johan.
Over 600 athletes from seven countries participated in the competition, which marks its 17th edition this year.
A total of 20 ice rinks from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, China, the Philippines, Singapore and United States competed in 1,700 programmes throughout the five-day event.
Athletes were evaluated on their knowledge and execution of manoeuvres, dance choreography, musical interpretation and more, depending on the criteria.
The annual ice skating competition was also supported by the Youth and Sports Ministry.
Sunway Malls Selangor senior general manager Jason Chin said that ice skating has grown exponentially and gained international recognition in recent years.
'Throughout the 28 years of Sunway Pyramid Ice, we have seen a steady growth of interest and participation in ice skating.
'We are optimistic that ice skating will gain more awareness and interest, as we are committed to making winter sports more accessible,' he said.
Albert Cheok, assistant general manager of Sunway Pyramid Ice, Sunway Square Mall and Sunway Giza Mall, said Perak's first ice skating rink in Sunway Ipoh Mall is slated to be completed in the next two to three years.
'Ultimately, we endeavour to make ice skating more enjoyable as a leisure activity and competitive winter sport,' he said.

PUTRAJAYA: The decision on whether the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) will get the 'green light' from the government to extend its contract to host the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) race next year depends on the detailed data collection throughout its organisation. "I am confident that our badminton players can perform well, especially those under the Road To Gold (RTG) Programme, but I also hope that the players are not too tired because we know that the badminton calendar is very tight, compact. "In any case, they need to continue playing to be in the RTG and I always pray that there will be no injuries to our athletes because that will make it difficult for many parties," she said. Among the badminton athletes in the RTG are Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, Pearly Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie. A game-changer for Malaysian deaf sports
PUTRAJAYA: A landmark RM3 million government grant is being hailed as a game-changer for Malaysian deaf sports, powering the national squad's preparations and enabling athletes to train full-time ahead of the SEA Deaf Games in Jakarta (Aug 20-26) and Deaflympics in Tokyo (Nov 15-26). Malaysia will field 53 athletes in six sports at the SEA Deaf Games – futsal, athletics, badminton, tenpin bowling, chess and table tennis – with a target of 16 gold medals, one better than their tally at the 2022 Kuala Lumpur edition. The financial boost, channelled by the government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has allowed the national deaf contingent to focus solely on their sporting careers. It covers full-time allowances and socio-economic support, transforming their training regime and ambitions. "This has allowed us to implement a full-time training programme," said Malaysian Deaf Sports Association (MSDEAF) president Ong Shin Ruenn after a flag-handing ceremony today. "Our athletes can focus on training full-time and don't have to balance working and training. This RM3 million fund has motivated many of them to aim for medals." The injection of funds is seen as an investment not only for the Jakarta campaign but also in the larger pursuit of Deaflympics success in Tokyo. "The allocation is being used to focus on preparation, training and competition for the Deaflympics in Japan," Shin Ruenn added, describing the SEA Deaf Games as a stepping stone towards that long-term goal. The move marks a strategic shift from short-term training camps to a sustainable, high-performance programme. Shin Ruenn expressed gratitude for the support, describing it as a turning point for a community that has often been overlooked. But he also stressed the importance of continuity. "For the future, we hope the government will maintain the same allocation as it is very important for the athletes," he said. Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, who officiated the ceremony, said the government's backing was part of a wider push for inclusivity in sports. "We want these athletes to feel they are equally representing Malaysia. With this support, they must now focus fully on their preparations and deliver their best," she said. She also stressed the need for longer-term funding commitments. "Twelve months of preparation is not enough. Coaches and athletes need at least two years to plan and train effectively," she said, adding that her ministry was in talks with the Finance Ministry to secure more sustainable allocations.

That was the clarion call from Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh to Malaysia's deaf athletes during the official handing over of the Jalur Gemilang to the contingent bound for the SEA Deaf Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, which begin on Wednesday (Aug 20). Hannah urged the athletes to give their all in Jakarta, reminding them that they carry not just the nation's flag, but also the hopes of inspiring Malaysians everywhere. 'Compete with the highest fighting spirit, give your full commitment and effort. You are not only competing for medals, but more importantly, showing that limitations are never a barrier to success while bringing glory to Malaysia,' she said. She also expressed confidence in MSDeaf's efforts to identify and develop more athletes from the deaf community, assuring that the government would continue to back them. 'The RM3 million allocated to MSDeaf for preparations for the SEA Deaf Games 2025 and the Deaflympics in Tokyo this November is proof of the government's commitment,' she added. During the ceremony, Hannah handed the national flag to chef de mission B. Sarkunan and flag bearer Zaiman Megat Abu, a national long and triple jumper. Also present were MSDeaf president Ong Shin Ruenn, athletes, officials, and key stakeholders of the Malaysian contingent, who pledged to give their best in pursuit of the country's 16-gold medal target. Malaysia will send an 80-strong contingent, comprising 53 athletes and 27 officials, making it the second-largest delegation after hosts Indonesia. The team will compete across all six sports – futsal, athletics, badminton, bowling, chess, and table tennis. The ceremony also saw the unveiling of the contingent's official attire and jersey, sponsored by Coneli Sdn Bhd, a local sportswear company specialising in high-performance athletic apparel and equipment.
