Rohit Purohit On Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai: ‘Stayed Honest To Its Soul'
Rohit Purohit opened up about what it truly takes to keep a show like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai relevant and impactful. Rohit Purohit continues to win hearts with his portrayal of Armaan Poddar in the long-running StarPlus show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. With 16 months of leading Rajan Shahi's iconic daily soap, Rohit's journey has been both celebrated and critically appreciated. This week, the show reclaimed its top spot on the TRP charts, proving once again that audience connect lies in consistent storytelling and this is something that Rohit strongly believes in. While riding high on success, Rohit opened up about what it truly takes to keep a show like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai relevant and impactful. Speaking to the Times of India, he shared his thoughts on how Indian television has evolved and why emotional storytelling remains the backbone of long-standing shows. Rohit Purohit On Indian Television Shows Rohit believes that a show can only make a lasting impact if it stays rooted in its core values. 'A show can only stay relevant and impactful if it is rooted in its core values. You need to be clear about the story you're telling and stay honest with it. The narrative has to reflect the times and still hold on to the emotional essence that drew people initially," he shared. Using Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai as an example, he pointed out, 'It has always celebrated family bonds, relationships, festivals, conflicts and reconciliations and that the emotional core has remained intact. That's what keeps people connected." Rohit Purohit on Social Media's Role In Shaping Modern Viewership Rohit also acknowledged how drastically the audience landscape has changed in the age of social media. He shared, 'The audience today is very expressive and engaged. Their feedback does influence creative decisions. Loyal viewers often notice small clues, track BTS updates and try to predict upcoming twists." At the same time, he believes storytelling needs its own pace. 'You can't always rush or change things just because of a reaction. Sometimes, you have to trust the process and the long arc of storytelling," he added. Rohit Purohit On What Keeps A Long-Running Show Fresh? While the legacy of YRKKH is undeniable, sustaining freshness over the years is a challenge. He said, 'The biggest challenge is keeping the entire team emotionally and creatively invested over time. You can't ignore when a track isn't working or when a character no longer serves the story. But changes must still respect the original soul of the show." Rohit Purohit On The Power Of Strong Characters According to Rohit, character development holds as much weight as narrative twists. He shared, 'If your characters are strong and consistent, the audience stays emotionally invested. But a twist at the right moment adds energy and movement to the character's core for the sake of shock value. It has to feel natural and earned." Rohit Purohit on Why Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai Remains Timeless Reflecting on how YRKKH continues to strike a chord after more than a decade, Rohit said, 'Life itself has changed, issues are more complex, layered. So the show must evolve, but not lose sight of its heart. The emotional grounding is what makes a show timeless." He concluded with a thought that captures the essence of the show's success, saying, 'Ultimately, it's about honesty, passion and storytelling that adapts while staying true to the soul." Recently, Rohit Purohit won the Fan Favourite – Actor award at the prestigious Indian Telly Awards, while co-actor Samridhii Shukla and the entire Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai team swept multiple accolades. The celebration was not just for a milestone achieved, but for a legacy being upheld. With a passionate cast, visionary creators, and deeply involved viewers, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai shows no signs of slowing down. And actors like Rohit Purohit play a crucial role in holding the heart of the show together. First Published: August 06, 2025, 17:28 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2: Tulsi's Favourite Son Is In Jail, Mihir Unhappy
Last Updated: In the last few episodes of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, fans witness Mihir and Tulsi's son Angad get arrested. It has been a week since the much-awaited television show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi returned on the small screen. While the show began on an interesting note, providing fans with nostalgia, from the second episode, it took a melodramatic turn, something the audiences were not expecting. Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay's show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2, in a unique way, provides the audience with two different narratives – one headlined by Tulsi Virani and the other led by Vrinda Ghokale. Angad Virani Gets Arrested in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 In the last few episodes of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2, fans witness that during Mihir (Amar Upadhyay) and Tulsi's (Smriti Irani) wedding anniversary celebrations, their son Angad Virani (played by Rohit Suchanti) gets involved in an accident and goes to the police station to report the accident and calls Tulsi to the police station. Meanwhile, Mihir and Tulsi's daughter Pari (played by Shagun Sharma) confessed to her that she is in love with someone else after finding out Mihir had invited a boy to the party to meet her. Followed by a heated discussion, it is revealed that these three Gen Z kids are Tulsi's dead sister Kesar's children. Later, Tulsi tells Mihir about Pari's boyfriend, and despite rushing towards Pari in anger, Mihir ultimately accepts her decision and asks her to call her boyfriend home. But the next day, Angad gets arrested after the police claim he hit someone who is in a serious condition in the hospital, and while Mihir tries to bail him out, Tulsi advises that he should face the repercussions of what he has done. The Second Narrative of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 Introduces New Characters In the second narrative, audiences witness a bunch of new characters, one of whom is a traffic constable making an honest living. However, his greedy wife and mother want him to compromise his ethics as well. His sister, Virnda Gokhale (played by Tanisha Mehta), is a righteous girl who studies and helps the family to make ends meet. Things take a turn when a man comes to the traffic constable and asks him to destroy incriminating CCTV footage in exchange for Rs. 4 lakh. Although he refuses the bribe initially, he is forced to take it later on after his mother fakes an accident. Just when the constable decides to take the bribe and destroy the footage, Vrinda learns about it and finds out that Angad is innocent. She somehow contacts Tulsi and informs her. By then, Angad's arrest had already gotten serious media attention and damaged the family's reputation. At this moment, Tulsi takes charge and meets Vrinda. However, to her surprise, Vrinda refuses to get involved. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi's Recent Episodes In the latest episode, Tulsi and Mihir have an emotional breakdown after Angad was found innocent. His friend confesses that it was he who was driving the car, but Angad took the blame on himself. Seeing Angad suffer, his friend decides to surrender. Angad finally returns home, and normalcy is restored in the Virani household. Later, Vrinda contacts Tulsi, apologising for her mistake, and promises to help with the evidence which proves Angad's friend is innocent.
