Gosikhurd project gets fourth financial boost; project cost jumps to Rs 25,972 crore
Gosikhurd Irrigation Project was approved in March 1983 to create irrigation potential in 2,50,800 hectares annually in Bhandara, Nagpur and Chandrapur districts. The project comprised construction of earthen dam and spillway, Left Bank Canal, Right Bank Canal, nine Lift Irrigation Schemes and augmentation of the existing Asolamendha tank. The project was declared as a 'National Irrigation Project' by the Government of India in February 2009.
The project was inaugurated by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1984. The original cost of the project was then pegged at Rs 372 crore, which was later increased to Rs 5,659 crore. The Central Water Commission gave approval for the revised cost of Rs 7,778 crore in 2007. In March 2012, the project cost was again hiked to Rs 13,739 crore and then to Rs 18,500 crore in September 2016.
The Gosikhurd National Project is being implemented by the Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation. This multipurpose project is being implemented at Gosikhurd (T Pavani) on the Wainganga river in the Wainganga sub-basin of the Godavari basin. This is a multipurpose project for irrigation, drinking water, industrial water supply and fisheries and hydropower generation.
The irrigation area of Nagpur, Chandrapur and Bhandara districts will benefit from this project through open canal distribution, lift irrigation and closed pipe distribution. This project is included in the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchhan Yojana. In order to complete this national project in East Vidarbha on time, the expenditure of this project was approved as the fourth revised administrative approval in the cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
Nod for four-lane road
The cabinet also approved the construction of a four-lane elevated road and a parallel four-lane road from Talegaon to Chakan on the 53-km state highway of Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur in Pune district. In addition, a six-lane road from Chakan to Shikrapur was also cleared. The government will spend Rs 4206.88 crore for these projects.

5 Men Jailed For Life For Murdering Gurugram Local BJP Leader
Gurugram: A Gurugram court has sentenced five convicts to life imprisonment for the murder of local BJP leader and ex-vice president of the Sohna market committee, Sukhbir Khatana alias Sukhi, police said on Thursday. The court of Additional Sessions Judge Sunil Kumar Diwan also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each of the convicts, they said. The STF had arrested 20 persons for reportedly conducting a recce and carrying out the murder, police said. On September 1, 2022, BJP leader Khatana, a resident of Rithoj village, was gunned down in broad daylight by armed assailants at a Raymonds showroom on the Gurdwara Road near Sadar Bazaar when he was buying clothes. Anurag, the son of the deceased, accused the involvement of Khatana's brother-in-law Chaman and his accomplices in the murder. Based on his complaint, an FIR has been registered at the Civil Lines police station. After a brief investigation, the case was transferred to the Special Task Force (STF), which arrested 20 persons, including Chaman alias Pawan, politician Rohtas Khatana's brother Joginder, and gangster Vikram Singh alias Papla Gujjar. After hearing both sides, the court sentenced five out of the 20 accused on Monday, including Chaman, Yogesh, Deepak, Arun alias Ankul and Rahul. Khatana held the post of vice-chairman of the Sohna Nagar Parishad. His wife Pushpa is presently the councillor from Ward No. 2. Pushpa's brother Chaman had a grudge against Khatana due to his court marriage with his sister, police said. According to police, Chaman conducted a recce of Khatana more than 10 times.

TG govt ‘renews' Rythu Bima, tweaks eligibility rules
Hyderabad: The state government has 'renewed' the Rythu Bima scheme for 2025-2026, with the last date for farmers to submit fresh applications for the scheme ending on August 12. Meanwhile, the government going ahead with its plans for compiling data of new beneficiaries and tweaking rules. Rythu Bima, an insurance scheme, is meant to provide financial support to families of farmers who die unexpectedly. The current policy expired on August 13. 'More than two lakh applications have been received from new beneficiaries of Rythu Bima and some of them were rejected due to various reasons', officials told 'The Hans India'. If everything goes fine, about 48 lakh farmers, including the fresh applicants, will be eligible to get Rs 5 lakh life insurance cover under the scheme. The applications will be considered from the farmers who had registered their lands in Bhu Bharati and CCLA (Chief Commissioner of Land Administration). Secretary to Agriculture Department M Raghunandan Rao has instructed all the department officials, mainly Agriculture Officers (AOs), to consider applications from farmers who own lands up to 5 acres only. 'The farmers' insurance scheme will be applicable to only those who possess 5 acres of land', officials said. The Agriculture Officers conducted field verification before shortlisting the new beneficiaries. All the old beneficiaries were asked to submit applications for renewal and those are being uploaded on Rythu Bima portal. Officials said that the authorities were verifying the land documents in Bhu Bharathi and CCLA as the government has mandated that only farmers who registered their lands in the two official portals would be considered eligible to avail of the scheme benefit. The new guidelines also state that farmers who own lands in more than one village are eligible for one insurance policy for the entire family. Complicating matters for the coming year, the Agriculture Department has been constrained to write a letter to the finance wing seeking requisite funds to help pay the insurance premium to the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) in one go. For, the insurance company is not accepting the government's request to be allowed to pay the premium amount in installments due to financial crisis. According to one estimate, the scheme requires around Rs. 1,500 crore this year, up from last year's Rs. 1,477 crore premiums for 41 lakh farmers. Officials said that the Finance Department should provide adequate funds to pay the premium amount of Rs 1,500 crore in one go to prevent hurdles for beneficiary farmers in availing of the scheme benefit.

The rapid rise is understandably fuelled by many large-scale integrated projects and strong investor appetite in Noida. The high-end property rates of the place highlight how selected pockets inside the NCR region are helping India grow into a real estate powerhouse. 'Across the 14 high-performing micro markets analysed by ANAROCK, capital values rose between 24 per cent and 139 per cent, while rentals surged 32 per cent–81 per cent, between 2021 and Q2 of 2025 — far outpacing both wage growth and inflation," stated a report by Moneycontrol. After Noida's Sector 150, Bengaluru has emerged as the second biggest real estate winner. Property rates for the city's Sarjapur Road alone have climbed up to 79 per cent, with an additional jump of 81 per cent in rents. According to the data, Thanisandra Main Road has witnessed an even bigger jump of 81 per cent in property gains and 65 per cent in rental income. Analysts have attributed this incredible jump to the mix of post-pandemic demand resurgence, infrastructure upgrades and also a steady inflow of investors betting on sustained appreciation. Also reiterated here is the historic trend of connectivity and jobs driving both prices and rent growth and real estate consistently outperforming other markets, with these premium cities boasting of new metro lines, expressways and airport proximity. 'Capital values followed a trajectory of rapid appreciation between 2021 and 2023, followed by steadier gains as new supply hit the market and buyers became more price-sensitive.
