Poland's Iga Świątek, the defending champion and world No. 2, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open tennis tournament (a WTA 1000 event) after defeating Russia's Diana Shnaider on Tuesday.
The Polish star needed two hours and 34 minutes to overcome her opponent in a hard-fought victory, winning in three sets (6–0, 6–7, 6–4).
Świątek is now chasing her 23rd career title and her first since winning the French Open (Roland Garros) in June 2024.
In the quarterfinals, Świątek will face American Madison Keys, who secured her spot after defeating Ukraine's Dona Vekić in straight sets (6–3, 6–2).
