Al-Hilal mainstay reveals truth behind collapsed Real Madrid transfer – ‘From what I understand…'
Yassine Bounou, better known in football circles as Bono, is preparing to face Real Madrid as Al Hilal's goalkeeper in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The match is particularly special for the Moroccan international, as he was once on the verge of joining Los Blancos himself.

It must be noted that Bounou made his name with Sevilla. Ironically, he could have been wearing the white shirt of Real Madrid had things turned out differently last summer.
After Thibaut Courtois suffered a serious knee injury in August 2023, Real Madrid explored their options to replace the Belgian.
Bounou confirmed in an interview with Canal Sur Radio that he was their first choice. 'That's what I understand,' he said.
Why the move never happened?
Despite being the top candidate for the role, Bounou's potential absence during the Africa Cup of Nations in January 2024 became a sticking point.

'The board looked at everything. I would have missed many games in a key month, and that wasn't ideal for Madrid,' Bounou explained. 'They also had other loan options that suited them better.'
Eventually, Real Madrid brought in Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea. But it was Andriy Lunin who stepped up and made the starting position his own in Courtois' absence.
Facing familiar foes
Bounou is no stranger to Real Madrid. He has played against them ten times, with just two wins and a draw to show for it. In those matches, he has conceded 25 goals.
Still, the 34-year-old is looking forward to the challenge. 'I've met many Madrid fans on the streets in Spain. There's always been mutual respect,' he said.

'It will be a great honour to play against them now wearing the shirt of Al Hilal, a club that is recognised around the world.'
Now with a new chapter in front of him, Bounou will be hoping to turn the tables and lead Al Hilal to an upset win, something that would make this reunion all the more memorable.

Liverpool has upgraded by selling Trent Alexander-Arnold in 'sad' situation
Former Liverpool right-back Markus Babbel has revealed he thinks Jeremie Frimpong could prove to be an upgrade on Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Reds confirmed the signing of Frimpong on the same day Alexander-Arnold's exit to Real was officially announced, ending the latter's 20-year association with his boyhood club. While Frimpong is not necessarily seen as a like-for-like replacement, with Conor Bradley also an important figure for Arne Slot, his signing was definitely born out of the need to add additional options in that position. Advertisement Alexander-Arnold's technique, passing and ability to provide goals for teammates made him a unique right-back. Most believe there is no substitute in world soccer for the Liverpool academy graduate. READ MORE: Trent Alexander-Arnold finds Real Madrid training 'a lot different' from Liverpool READ MORE: Florian Wirtz's contract details revealed after putting Liverpool transfer on hold But his defensive capabilities were often exposed, none more so than in a 2-2 draw against Manchester United in January. For that reason, Babbel, who played 73 times for Liverpool between 2000 and 2002, feels the team could be stronger despite losing such a talented player. Advertisement 'Jeremie Frimpong is a different kind of right-back to Trent Alexander-Arnold,' the German said, via Poker Scout. 'Trent is unbelievable with the ball – Frimpong is also good on the ball, but not in the same style as Trent. 'The main strength of Frimpong is that he is very fast. He is one of the quickest players in the Bundesliga and he can play on the wing as well as in defence. Babbel was part of the squad that won three trophies in 2000/01. 'I would say defensively, he is better than Trent; that has been a big weakness for Trent in the past. 'Frimpong has been one of the main players for Bayer Leverkusen in the past couple of seasons and I think he is going to become a top player for Liverpool. It's a very good signing for them.' Advertisement Alexander-Arnold was booed by fans on his penultimate appearance for Liverpool and irked some by speaking Spanish in his unveiling press conference. Some supporters believe his decision to learn the language in advance indicates that he has been prioritizing his own wants above the team's for a prolonged period. This also chimes against Alexander-Arnold's claims that he agonized over the decision for months. 'I love Trent as a player, but what is he doing going to Real Madrid? I know he did his first press conference in Spanish to show that he respects the club, but let me tell you, he will definitely speak English in the changing room. Advertisement 'I would have thought that he'd stay in Liverpool because he grew up there, but we're talking about Real Madrid here, who are the biggest club in the world. 'If it's his dream to go there, then you have to respect that. It's sad for me, because I loved watching him for Liverpool.'

World champion Olga Carmona signs for PSG women's team
Olga Carmona (L) in action against Arsenal during the Women's Champions League quarter-finals in March (Adrian Dennis) Spanish World Cup winner Olga Carmona said she is ready to step up another level with Paris Saint-Germain after signing with the French club for three seasons on Wednesday. The 25-year-old left-back arrives in the French capital after five years with Real Madrid, having started her footballing career at her hometown club Sevilla in 2017. Advertisement "I'm very excited and motivated by this new challenge, the idea of joining a big club," Carmona told AFP. "It was the moment to leave my comfort zone to continue to grow as a player and as a person. "When I arrived (at Real Madrid) I was a young girl and I leave a woman. "I dared to take up this challenge and I am very happy about it. I think that we can do a lot of great things, I'm here to win." Carmona scored the winning goal in Spain's 2023 World Cup final victory over England in Sydney. Despite other tempting offers, PSG was a dream move for the former Real captain. Advertisement "Paris is a city that I've always loved. I've already played here and found it very cold," she laughed, "but this club has always attracted me. "Since the start they showed genuine interest and affection for me. I think it's important to feel that they really wanted me from the first contact and finally I decided to come here. "From the moment that I decided to leave Madrid, I wanted to learn about another culture, another country and language. "Now I have to learn French but I've already learned a bit in school. I'll do my best to adapt as quickly as possible and bring a lot to the team." Advertisement By joining the Premiere Ligue, Carmona knows she will have to compete with Lyon, who have won 18 of the last 19 French league titles. PSG lifted their only title in 2021. "Lyon is one of the best clubs in Europe," the Spaniard said. "But that's precisely the challenge. There's a great project, a great team to compete with Lyon and try to win titles." At PSG, she will notably be reunited with English goalkeeper Mary Earps whom she beat to score the winning goal in the World Cup final. Carmona also won the Nations League last year with Spain and is preparing to play at Euro 2025 in Switzerland next month. pm-eba/dar/ea/mw/jc
