
National Industries Development Committee discusses updates of industrial sector
The meeting was chaired by Qais Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, and attended by representatives of public and private sector establishments concerned.
The meeting also studied options to enhance the competitiveness of national products, developments in allocating gas quotas to industrial projects, and a decision to ban the export of some raw materials and industrial waste that could be recycled. It also reviewed the mandatory list of local products and services and listened to proposals submitted by the panel members on ways to promote industrial projects in the Sultanate of Oman.
The committee reviewed the outcome of a comprehensive study on protecting national industries, the experiences of advanced industrial countries and the challenges facing the industrial sector in Oman and ways to develop it in accordance with the best international practices.
The committee made a number of recommendations, including the need to provide incentives to factories as part of an envisaged automation initiative, how to benefit from financing programmes and proposals for quality industrial projects.
The committee stressed the importance of enhancing industrial investments, supporting local products in government tenders, providing incentives for emerging factories, coordination among the departments concerned to ensure the realization of Oman 2040 Industrial Strategy and means of enhancing the role of the industrial sector's contribution to the national economy.

Oman, Uzbekistan explore stronger economic and investment ties
Muscat- The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Uzbekistan held official talks on Tuesday to boost cooperation in investment, industry and trade. H E Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, received in Muscat H E Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan. The discussions aimed at strengthening economic and investment relations between the two countries. Talks covered ways to advance trade cooperation, explore new investment opportunities and follow up on the outcomes of the Omani-Uzbek Joint Committee. The two sides also discussed collaboration in sectors including transportation, industry, mining and tourism, as well as the potential for knowledge exchange and strategic partnerships. The meeting also highlighted the importance of public-private sector cooperation to diversify sources of income and expand bilateral trade. H E Abdulsalam bin Mohammed al Murshidi, President of Oman Investment Authority, also met the visiting minister and his delegation to review opportunities aligned with the priorities of both countries and explore avenues for joint initiatives. The Uzbek delegation – comprising senior officials and business leaders – will hold meetings with Omani counterparts during their two-day visit, focusing on logistics, banking, textiles and oil and gas. The talks were attended by H E Pankaj Khimji, Advisor for Foreign Trade and International Cooperation at MoCIIP; H E Abdul Salam Khatamov, Ambassador-designate of Uzbekistan to Oman; Eng Nasser bin Khalifa al Kindi, CEO of Invest in Oman; and a number of other officials. During a separate meeting with Uzbek business leaders, H E al Yousef presented investment opportunities in Oman, addressing trade challenges and highlighting the country's competitive investment environment. A presentation on 'Invest in Oman' showcased incentives for investors, benefits of the residency programme, and opportunities within special economic and free zones. The delegation is also scheduled to visit the 'Invest in Oman' lounge to review services, procedures and facilities available to investors. The visit reflects MoCIIP's efforts to position Oman as a leading investment destination and to expand partnerships with friendly countries to achieve mutual economic growth.

Meeting in North Al Batinah explores role of ports, maritime shipping in boosting exports
Sohar: The North Al Batinah branch of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday organised an extensive meeting on the role of ports and maritime shipping in promoting national exports. In his speech, Eng. Said Ali Al Abri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry's North Al Batinah branch, highlighted the importance of the maritime shipping sector in enhancing the access of national exports to global markets. He explained that the North Al Batinah Governorate is a promising strategic hub due to its distinguished logistical location, making it a key center for developing supply chains and supporting export movement. He emphasised that the current meeting aims to shed light on the available opportunities in the sector, discuss the most prominent challenges, and explore possible solutions with the participation of various concerned parties, ensuring the development of an integrated shipping environment that supports the growth of the national economy. The meeting included a discussion session on the role of Sohar Port and Freezone in promoting national exports and the efficiency of operations related to shipping, handling, and customs clearance. It also addressed operational and regulatory challenges in supply chains and presented proposed solutions to enhance integration between government entities and operators, as well as stimulating investment in the logistics sector through qualitative incentives that capitalize on the port's geographical and logistical advantages.
