5 Baby Names a Teacher Cautions Parents To Think Twice About
Ask a kindergarten teacher to name their favorite student, and you'll get a polite shrug. Ask which names make them flinch, and you'll get a dissertation. After years of navigating playground disputes and kids swinging from coat hooks, educators can't help but develop strong, and occasionally irrational, opinions about names. Marianna Hayes, a dance studio owner in San Diego who has held a variety of teaching positions, fell victim to the name curse early in her career. 'There's no question, every teacher has a list of names they would never use for their own kids,' Hayes, 27, tells She shared her personal blacklist in a now-viral TikTok video that captured the attention of nearly two million viewers — many of them fellow teachers nodding in agreement. The first names Hayes calls out are Aubrey and Audrey. 'It's the same name,' she says. 'Don't do that to me, cause I bet you money I will have an Aubrey and an Audrey in the same class, and we're not about that.' While speaking to TODAY, Hayes explains that names like Aubrey and Audrey may look different on paper, but in a noisy setting filled with overlapping chatter, they might as well be identical. 'You say Aubrey and Audrey turns around,' she notes. Hayes also cautions parents against choosing names they believe are unique, warning that what feels rare today will likely become the next craze tomorrow. 'Any name that you think is going to be unique, it's not anymore,' she says in the clip. 'I had three parents come up to me and tell me that they thought Penelope was going to be original. It's not. I got a lot of Penelopes. ' One person captured the irony perfectly in the comments, writing, 'Me naming my daughter Penelope and saying 'we like it because it's different.'' In the United States, the name Penelope ranked 28th among baby girl names for the year 2024, according to the Social Security Administration's official list. But while some names rise in popularity, others multiply into near-endless variations, like Hayden, Brayden, and Jayden, each spelled differently but sounding almost the same. "There are a million of them!" Hayes tells TODAY. "Those names are so generic at this point." She concluded her TikTok with a personal anecdote, which, unsurprisingly, sparked plenty of reactions in the comments. 'I've only had one Lucy that I've ever enjoyed,' she quips in the video. 'The others made me say, 'Jesus, is this what I really want to do with my life?'' This article was originally published on Solve the daily Crossword

Plane passenger tries to outsmart airline's luggage rule by doing the unthinkable with her suitcase: ‘She's so real for that'
They told her to check the bag — she checked them instead. A fierce flyer is going viral for muscling her suitcase into a carry-on sizer at a European airport — leaving airline staff stunned when the bag actually fit. The shove came courtesy of TikTok user Arina (@summermken_official), who posted a video of herself forcefully wedging her luggage into a metal bag checker at the Vueling counter during a recent flight from Paris to London. 'Never give up, at least not on the sake of €200,' she wrote in the caption — and the internet agreed. The clip has racked up more than 10 million views since it was posted July 22. 'They asked me to place my bag in the checker to confirm it met size requirements,' Arina told Newsweek. 'It seemed that they were just suspicious of the size of my bag since it didn't seem like carry-on luggage.' The Spanish low-cost carrier, like many budget airlines, has earned a reputation for eagle-eyed enforcement of size rules — and for slapping on sky-high baggage fees. Vueling charges up to 88 euros (about $96) at the airport if your bag doesn't fit its requirements. 'I was 100% sure that it would fit […] plus I measured it before buying and it fit the standards of the company,' she told the outlet. What followed was a now-iconic suitcase showdown: Arina is seen in the clip straining to push her bag into the checker — and then yanking it out with just as much effort. The Vueling employee? Gobsmacked. 'She seemed quite surprised that the suitcase actually fit,' Arina said. 'She said, with genuine shock, that I must be very strong… she clearly didn't expect it to fit at all.' TikTokers applauded her persistence — and side-eyed the airline. 'Her face, that's 'I told you' face,' wrote one viewer in the comments section. 'She's so real for that,' another chimed in. 'Bro that's small carry-on too, I hate airlines,' added an additional user. As previously reported by The Post, one Ryanair passenger broke down in tears this week at Sofia Airport in Bulgaria after being denied boarding when her bag wouldn't fit the airline's size limits. Despite shoving it into the sizer, she refused to pay extra, pleaded with border police, and ultimately collapsed to her knees sobbing as staff looked on. Overall, when it comes to budget flights, it's bend or break — and these women did both. Solve the daily Crossword

This TikToker is trying to hit every McDonald's in the U.S. and rate them all
How many McDonald's locations do you think you've been to across the U.S.? Ten, maybe twenty? One TikTok creator is aiming to hit all 13,589 of them. Posting under the handle @donnyboys10, the creator kicked off the challenge last July and has since visited 275 locations across the country, including stops in Chicago, California, Oregon, and Arizona. Each McDonald's gets its own rating out of 10, complete with a short review and a tour of the facilities. And not every location is up to par. The Hollywood Boulevard location in Los Angeles came in at just 3 out of 10. The TikToker wrote: 'This very famous iconic location was absolute shambles.' The main complaints were the bathrooms, as well as the food being overpriced. 'I almost didn't even want to pay for it.' The Encinitas location however, scored a solid 9. 'Everything was available. Everything was clean,' he wrote. Even the bathrooms were 'super luxurious.' Throughout the challenge, @donnyboys10 has built an impressive following of over 128,000, with several videos racking up millions of views. In the comments, fans request to be tagged when he eventually reviews their local McDonald's. 'Im a day one, respect for you man',' one user commented. 'Bro is slowly getting closer to my McDonald's,' another wrote. According to the Daily Dot, @donnyboys10 averages 60 to 90 McDonald's visits a month. At that pace, it would take him about 15 years to visit every single McDonald's in the U.S. (assuming no new locations open in that time). When Fast Company spoke to @donnyboys10 over email, he was more optimistic. He estimated the challenge would take about 9 years to complete. For now, he's juggling his nationwide McDonald's tour with a part-time job and pursuing his bachelor's degree, which slows him down. 'At the start there was one other person involved and we did it together,' he tells Fast Company. 'As the challenge got harder and we needed to visit locations farther from where we were from, he stepped back and left the challenge to only me.' But that hasn't stopped him. 'I wanted to start this not only so I could go to McDonald's,' he explained. 'I try to pick places that I genuinely want to travel to. Besides going to every McDonald's in the US, it has always been my dream to go to every city in the United States.' Fans can donate to help cover the costs—or buy him a Happy Meal—via a GoFundMe linked in his bio. His favorite location so far? The famous blue McDonald's in Sedona, Arizona, where the traditional golden arches are painted to match the skyline and preserve the area's natural beauty. The worst? 'Between third and Pine in Seattle or most McDonald's in downtown Portland.'
