Pablo Torre's Bill Belichick reporting sparks a fresh feud with Bill Simmons

Pablo Torre's thorough and detailed reporting on former Patriots coach Bill Belichick's decidedly un-Belichickian late-career turn has generated plenty of attention. And, as Belichick and Jordon Hudson have learned, with attention comes scrutiny.
Ben Axelrod of AwfulAnnouncing.com explains that Boston native, Patriots superfan, and ultra-popular podcast host Bill Simmons took a few shots at Torre during a study of the ridiculously far-fetched 1978 football film, Heaven Can Wait, in which Warren Beatty's character (Rams quarterback Joe Pendleton) dies too soon, enters the body of multimillionaire Leo Farnsworth as rectification for the error, buys the team, and makes himself the starting quarterback in advance of the Super Bowl.
'Pablo Torre would've done a long podcast about Leo Farnsworth trying to practice with the team, and then done a media tour about it afterwards,' Simmons said. 'I've never seen anybody dine on a stupider story for a week and a half while pretending you're a journalist. What the fuck was that? Seriously.'
Added Simmons: 'Belichick's dating a girl. 'Oh, let me do nine shows about it.' Settle the fuck down.'
The Torre media tour wasn't planned. People wanted to talk to him about the Belichick story. That's how he ended up on #PFTPM last week; I asked him to do it.
The reason was simple. People can't get enough of the story. Our traffic proves it, over and over again.
For instance, our top four stories for May 2025 related to Belichick and his 24-year-old girlfriend/handler/publicist/idea mill/creative muse Jordon Hudson.
But while a certain amount of flak from others in the media is to be expected for anyone whose success sparks natural and predictable resentment, Torre appears to be ready to engage Simmons.
'Since you have such a strong public opinion about my work,' Torre said to Simmons on Twitter, 'I happen to have a few questions for you, specifically. Unless you're afraid of [Pablo Torre Finds Out] and someone just 'pretending to be a journalist,' of course.'
We don't know what the questions are. We don't know whether Simmons will answer them. But we know that, if Pablo Torre becomes sufficiently curious about something, he'll make it his mission to find out.

The Eagles held their fifth OTA session on Tuesday, and following the practice, Smith discussed his outlook on 2025 and what steps he'll need to take to emulate Graham's impact on the franchise. While Jalen Carter has been a star since Day 1, Smith has quietly and intensely carved out a role in the NFL. As a rookie, Smith recorded 18 tackles and 1.0 sacks in 17 regular-season games. Playing behind Haason Reddick and Brandon Graham, the former Georgia star linebacker didn't play more than eight defensive snaps in a game until Week 12. Smith's coming-out party came during the Eagles' postseason run, when the confident former Georgia star made plays in every game, including the Super Bowl 59 win. In Year 2, he became an every-down contributor for the Eagles, playing 755 snaps in 2024 and grading out better against the run (74.0) than as a pass-rusher (68.3), but still managed to generate 50 pressures according to PFF. Smith was the Eagles' best pass rusher down the stretch, and he likely gained more respect from his teammates after playing through a torn Triceps. Smith had four tackles and two sacks in the wild-card round win over Green Bay. Smith, who finished 2nd on the defense with a career-high 6.5 sacks in the regular season, had the most pressures (13) among NFL players in the playoffs last year. Smith's 4.5 sacks last postseason are the most ever recorded by an Eagle during a single playoff run.

Former Bills CB Ronald Darby retires from the NFL
Former Buffalo Bills cornerback Ronald Darby is hanging up the cleats after 10 seasons in the NFL. The 31-year-old product of Florida State retired, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. A second-round pick by the Bills in 2015, Darby was an important piece to the Bills defense in the Rex Ryan era. He started 29 games across 2015 and 2016, intercepting two passes and recording 33 PBUs. Advertisement Darby finished second in defensive rookie of the year voting following the 2015 season where he thrived in Ryan's man-heavy approach. In his first career NFL game, he intercepted Colts four-time Pro Bowler Andrew Luck: When the Sean McDermott regime took over in Buffalo prior to the 2017 season, they cleaned house, trading Darby to the Eagles for wide receiver Jordan Matthews. They also traded WR Sammy Watkins to the Rams that day. Darby won the Super Bowl as a starting cornerback in his first year in Philadelphia (SB LII) while playing every snap in the big game. Impressively, Darby started 78 more games in his career after leaving the Bills, playing for five more teams over eight seasons. Advertisement He joined the Houston Texans this offseason on a one-year deal in free agency, but decided to retire before playing for his seventh career team. He retires with eight career interceptions, 447 tackles, and a Super Bowl win across a decade as a pro. In retrospect, a solid draft pick by Bills general manager Doug Whaley in 2015. Known as a man-to-man corner, maybe Darby would have stuck around in Buffalo had that fit what McDermott was trying to do with his defense.
