Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day's Popular Apple TV+ Show Canceled Early, Will Get New Ending

Mythic Quest may have been one of Apple TV+'s first original series, but the streamer is pulling the plug on the gamer comedy after four seasons.
Variety was first to report the news that Mythic Quest's fourth season, which aired its finale on March 26, will be its last. But the network is giving co-creators Charlie Day, Rob McElhenney, and Megan Ganz (all of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia fame) the chance to give the show's many fans a proper sendoff. An updated version of the season 4 finale, which will feel more like a true ending, will drop on the streaming service next week.'Endings are hard. But after four incredible seasons, Mythic Quest is coming to a close,' said McElhenney, Ganz, and David Hornsby—all executive producers on the show—in a statement.
'We're so proud of the show and the world we got to build, and deeply grateful to every cast and crew member who poured their heart into it,' the trio continued. 'To all our fans, thank you for playing with us. To our partners at Apple, thank you for believing in the vision from the very beginning. Because endings are hard, with Apple's blessing we made one final update to our last episode—so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over.'
The workplace comedy followed the lives of the employees of an often dysfunctional video game studio owned by Ian Grimm (McElhenney), the creator of a popular MMORPG titled, yep, Mythic Quest.
Though Apple does not share viewership records for its shows, Mythic Quest appears to have been a success. It has a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 97 percent, and recently released an 'expansion pack' spin-off series, Side Quest, that so far seems to have been warmly received.
Though Day co-created the series, it took until this most recent season for him to make an appearance on the series. With some extra time on their hands, perhaps this means fans will see the long-anticipated 17th season of Sunny they've been asking for.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney says 'the long national nightmare of the Apple tax' is over

Tim Sweeney won, and he's out celebrating. After a five-year battle with Apple, Sweeney, the CEO of Epic Games, won a massive victory in court last month. Apple must tear down its proverbial walled garden and allow for more competition and payment methods on its App Store. It will no longer be able to take a 27% fee from US developers who direct users to make purchases externally. And that means that Epic's popular game, Fortnite, is coming back to iOS. "Apple's stay is denied by the 9th Circuit Court. The long national nightmare of the Apple tax is ended," Sweeney said on X on Wednesday. "May next week's WWDC be the Apple-led celebration of freedom that developers and users have long deserved." In the comments, he added: "Apple is free to make money by fairly competing to offer services such as payments and ads to willing buyers." Apple is hosting its annual Worldwide Developers Conference at its Apple Park campus next week, where it usually unveils new products and platforms. Last year, it unveiled Apple Intelligence, a new personal intelligence system that incorporates generative AI into writing tools, message summaries, and email suggestions. It's not clear how the ruling will impact conference programming — Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider. Apple has said it will comply with the ruling, though it also plans to appeal the court order. In a blog post on Thursday, Apple issued a defense of its global app emporium. "The global App Store ecosystem facilitated $1.3 trillion in developer billings and sales in 2024," it said, noting that for 90% of the transactions it facilitated, developers did not pay any commission to Apple. The App Store attracts over 813 million average weekly visitors worldwide, and spending across three categories — digital goods and services, physical goods and services, and in-app advertising — has more than doubled since 2019, according to Apple. Spending on in-app advertising, especially, has "helped keep many apps free or low-cost for users," the company said. Sweeney, however, is looking forward to a new, more egalitarian era for the App Store, and anticipates two levels of change. The first, as he described to BI's Peter Kafka, will be that "all users are free to learn about better deals from all developers, and all developers are free to not just accept payments outside of the app on the web, but to tell users about those alternative ways to pay and to give consumers better deals. That's a key economic gain here." The second is that "Apple would step up and compete, give developers a much better deal than 30%, and actually engage in competition," he said.

Buzz for Brad Pitt's 'F1' Turns Heads Before Rotten Tomatoes Score Reveal

From the director of Top Gun: Maverick, Joseph Kosinski, one of the biggest summer movies of 2025, outside of superhero flicks and dinosaurs, is F1: The Movie. Starring Damson Idris and Brad Pitt as Formula One racecar drivers, the movie will take a high-octane, ultra-realistic look at this badass sport. And, although the film doesn't yet have a Rotten Tomatoes score, movie critics have finally seen F1 and are sharing their reactions on social media. "The sound, score, and cinematography are flawless," wrote Variety editor Jazz Tangcay. And she was not alone. Maude Garrett of Nerdist posted on X that: "F1 is so freaking good. It has all the adrenaline, heart, pacing, story, and character that completely fleshes out this movie into excellence. I can only imagine how much MORE I would love this movie if I was a fan of F1 racing! F1: The Movie is racing into a very packed blockbuster summer. With Sinners, Thundebolts and Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning in the rearview mirror, F1 is sliding into a sweetspot, inbetweeen the release of Ballerina this week, and a masive July ahead. With Superman, Jurassic World Rebirth, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps all coming out in July, it seems very likely that if F1 were coming out later, it could possibly get lost in the shuffle. But these earlier reactions make it seem that the movie will very much be worth our while, and perhaps an exicting dark horse in a sea of conventional summer blockubsters. iTunes recently dropped a streaming preview of F1: The Album. The soundtrack album will include Don Toliver, Doja Cat, Ed Sheeran, Tate McRae, Chris Stapleton, and for Brad Pitt's 'F1' Turns Heads Before Rotten Tomatoes Score Reveal first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 5, 2025

Why the TV Community Is 'Curious, but Not Yet Committed' Outstanding Animated Program Commentary (Updated: June 5, 2025): After seven acclaimed seasons and more than 50 Emmy nominations, 'Big Mouth' could finally claim the trophy for Outstanding Animated Program with its eighth and final installment. Since its 2017 debut on Netflix, the irreverent adult comedy has pushed boundaries with its bold mix of raunchy humor and heartfelt exploration of puberty, identity and growing up. With Maya Rudolph already a four-time Emmy winner for her role as Connie the Hormone Monstress and a voice cast that includes 222 star-studded guests, the show has become a cultural force in animation. Nick Kroll has also been making the rounds, giving heartfelt interviews that have garnered headlines and increased awareness for the show. Netflix is also juggling the former winner, 'Arcane,' and the new series 'Devil May Cry,' which could also break through and dominate the category. The last time a network or studio picked up three nominations in this category in the same year was 2012 — Fox's 'American Dad!,' 'Bob's Burgers,' and 'The Simpsons' — which all lost to Nickelodeon's 'The Penguins of Madagascar.' Speaking of Fox, they'll have the record-breaking 'The Simpsons' in the mix, which holds the record for most nominations (33) and wins (12) in this category, that could come in and take it home once more. There's also a pathway for Paramount's 'Star Trek: Lower Decks' to also nab a spot, which has been close on a few times, but hasn't received recognition yet. The Emmys eligibility period ends on May 31. Nomination voting runs from June 12 to June 23, with official nominations set to be announced July 15.
