Tigers' Dillon Dingler, Zach McKinstry pull off ridiculous lucky grab in blowout win over White Sox
Zach McKinstry somehow managed to catch a foul ball that bounced off of Dillon Dingler's glove in the Tigers' blowout win over the White Sox on Monday night. ()
Dillon Dingler and Zach McKinstry teamed up for what could easily be the luckiest grab of the MLB season on Monday night.
The Detroit Tigers teammates, in the fifth inning of their matchup with the Chicago White Sox, ran to try and catch a foul ball popped up by Joshua Palacios that was headed toward the dugout.

But as Dingler slid to try and make the grab, he just barely mistimed the catch. The ball bounced off his glove and back toward an unsuspecting McKinstry, who somehow managed to make the catch and complete the out. McKinstry could only stand there and laugh once he realized what he had done.
Hey, whatever works.
The play was just part of what ended up being a blowout win for the best team in Major League Baseball on Monday. The Tigers cruised to the 13-1 win over the White Sox, thanks in part to a huge showing from Kerry Carpenter.
Carpenter hit three home runs in the contest, which made him the first Tigers player to hit three in a single game since 2016. He hit a solo shot in the first inning at Rate Field, and then followed it up with a two-run homer in the fourth inning. That second dinger put the Tigers up 8-0 at the time.

Then two innings later, Carpenter hit a third homer to center for good measure. White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr. nearly robbed that one, but he couldn't quite climb up the outfield wall enough to reach the ball as it crossed over.
The White Sox fell to 18-42 with the loss, which marked their seventh in their last eight games. The Tigers now sit at 40-21 on the year. They've lost just once in their last eight outings.
While it's still early June, the Tigers are making an incredible early push in the American League. If Carpenter keeps it up, and they manage to keep pulling in ridiculous catches like they did on Monday night, there's no telling where the Tigers will end up in a few months.

Yankees' key reliever eyes return this week after ‘great' bullpen session
Fernando Cruz had been one of the Yankees' best relievers this season, striking out 37.6% of batters faced with a 2.66 ERA in 21 appearances with the team, and he could be rejoining the team soon. After feeling a snag in his throwing shoulder during a loss against the Mets, Cruz would be placed on the 15-day IL as a precautionary measure to ensure things healed well. Advertisement Eligible to be activated off the IL soon, the Yankees could be getting a huge upgrade for their bullpen as the right-hander felt great in his live bullpen session at Dodger Stadium. With his velocity unaffected and the recovery after the session going well, Fernando Cruz presents a significant upgrade for a group that has been battered over the weekend. Fernando Cruz Could Join the Yankees in Upcoming Homestand Credit: Brad Penner-Imagn Images The Yankees' bullpen desperately needs some help after this tough series against the Dodgers, and Fernando Cruz is a nice light at the end of the tunnel for them. In just two games, the Yankees' team ERA has ballooned to 3.61, which is eighth in baseball and sixth in the American League. Advertisement Cruz's strikeout stuff is exactly what the team needs right now, as the right-hander was seventh in K% among qualified relievers (37.6%). After throwing his bullpen session and reporting zero issues with his velocity or command, the Yankees could activate him ahead of this upcoming homestand. In Cincinnati, the right-hander struggled to limit damage contact and avoid free passes, but this year he has been utterly dominant. Advertisement Following the team's final west coast trip, they return to the Bronx to host the Cleveland Guardians for a three-game set, a team eager to win the season series after winning two of three against New York in April. The Yankees conclude this road trip on Sunday Night Baseball against the Dodgers, with Ryan Yarbrough matching up against Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Why Padres trade for .177 hitting White Sox star makes sense
The post Why Padres trade for .177 hitting White Sox star makes sense appeared first on ClutchPoints. June is here. This is the month when things start to get serious in Major League Baseball. The Midseason Classic is a month away, and voting for players to make the All-Star team will begin shortly. Trade season is also looming as we are now under two months before that deadline. The San Diego Padres are certainly a team that will be buyers at the deadline and desperately need a left fielder and pitching rotation help. Advertisement Luis Robert Jr. has been a name that has circulated trade rumors for the last two seasons. The Chicago White Sox are a team who are not close to competing. At 18-42, the Sox are once again one of the laughing stocks of the league, and it will be hard to imagine a flip of the script any time soon. A Padres and Robert Jr. pairing makes sense, even with Robert Jr. playing poorly this season. ESPN's Jeff Passan recently published his trade deadline piece, and mentions the potential pairing of Robert Jr. and the Padres. One of the primary reasons anyone makes sense for a trade is the opportunity for a fresh start. You cannot say that for every player, especially for ones who have been moved many times in their career. The 27-year-old has been with the White Sox his entire career. A fresh start may very well be the best thing for him. Envisioning playing for the Padres, a team that badly needs an outfielder, should be on his mind. The White Sox can get it done. They would receive prospects in return, and Padres' GM A.J. Preller has not shied away from making blockbuster moves. Over the last few seasons, he has done everything he can to turn the Padres into a winning ball club. A lot of moves have been questionable, but adding a star in this league to the roster has a chance to be one of his better moves.

Padres pulls off extremely rare MLB feat last seen in 2001 World Series
The post Padres pulls off extremely rare MLB feat last seen in 2001 World Series appeared first on ClutchPoints. The San Diego Padres rallied late to defeat the San Francisco Giants 3–2 in another extra-inning thriller, with momentum shifting in the ninth and tenth innings. In the previous game, San Diego secured a 1–0 victory, also in extra innings. With both wins, the Padres pulled off an extremely rare Major League Baseball feat not seen since the 2001 World Series. They became the first team since the Arizona Diamondbacks to win back-to-back road games despite being shut out through the first eight innings of both contests. San Francisco jumped ahead in the third inning. Patrick Bailey opened with a double, and after a strikeout, Heliot Ramos crushed a 421-foot two-run homer to center. The Giants nearly added to their lead when Wilmer Flores singled and Matt Chapman doubled. But a perfect relay from Fernando Tatis Jr. to Jake Cronenworth to Luis Campusano cut down Flores at the plate. Advertisement Giants starter Landen Roupp was outstanding. He pitched 6⅓ scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out five. Roupp threw 92 pitches, 63 for strikes, and maintained excellent control. Despite his dominance, the Giants' bullpen couldn't protect the lead. Jordan Hicks missed action due to a toe injury. San Diego capitalized late and flipped the outcome. The Padres stayed quiet until the ninth. With two outs, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Luis Arraez drew back-to-back walks off Giants closer Camilo Doval. Manny Machado, already 3-for-3, came up clutch again. He ripped a single to left, scoring both runners and tying the game at 2–2. The Giants couldn't answer in the bottom half, forcing extra innings. In the tenth, Jackson Merrill began on second base. Gavin Sheets popped out to second for the first out. Xander Bogaerts grounded out, moving Merrill to third. Then, with two outs, Jake Cronenworth hit a ground ball past first baseman Casey Schmitt, giving San Diego the lead. Christian Koss started on second for the Giants in the bottom of the tenth. Casey Schmitt's sacrifice bunt moved him to third. But Padres reliever Jeremiah Estrada shut the door. He got Heliot Ramos and Jung Hoo Lee to ground out to shortstop Xander Bogaerts, who made clean throws to first both times. The Padres sealed the 3–2 win and completed a stunning back-to-back comeback. Advertisement Two nights, two comebacks, and a statement sent. If this stretch proves anything, it's that San Diego is a team built for the fight, and they're just getting started.
