Scottish spot named one of the best seaside towns in the UK
Introducing the ranking, the prestigious travel magazine said that while many seaside towns went into decline at the turn of the century, a number of these spots are starting to make a comeback.
It added that this "resurgence" has been driven by a complex web of influences, including the cost-of-living crisis and climate-conscious travel.

North Berwick, which was the only seaside town in Scotland named by National Geographic, was praised for its Fringe by the Sea festival and amazing foodie spots.
Discussing the East Lothian town, the publication said that like other coastal resorts, the location endured a choppy few decades at the close of the 20th century as its "Biarritz of the North" epithet slipped.
However, in the years since, the town has rebounded and been "lauded" for its long sandy beaches and "nation-leading" living standards.
The magazine went to highlight the Fringe by the Sea festival, an annual event featuring comedy, live music and culinary masterclasses.

A passenger who purchased a business class ticket while travelling with Lufthansa encountered an uncomfortable scenario when a mother and son from economy attempted to deceive their way into a seat swap. The traveller shared their experience on Reddit, explaining they had selected business class specifically because it guaranteed the middle seat would remain vacant. They mentioned that the other passenger in the aisle seat was a gentleman aged between 40 and 50, and his wife and son approached asking if they could exchange their economy seats to sit beside the man. The Reddit user continued: "His wife and son came in, asking me to switch (business for economy) so they could all sit there, then telling me that if I didn't switch with the wife, the son would sit in the middle at least, reasoning that I didn't need an empty seat next to me and claiming the stewardess allowed it." "Turned out, she said it was possible if the other passenger agreed to which they replied that I was a family, so I would 100% agree." After hearing this blatant untruth, the passenger refused to relinquish their seat, resulting in the son and wife remaining in economy class while the father "spent almost 4 hours muttering passive-aggressive comments". The Reddit user expressed gratitude towards the flight attendants for maintaining their professionalism, noting that a second attendant had to intervene when the mother and son "refused to go back to their seats". The Reddit post garnered over 6,100 likes and more than 100 comments. One commenter noted: "Lol he didn't give up his seat for his family, just wanted you to." Another responded: "It's wild how some people feel entitled to what others paid extra for. Lying about being your family? That's next-level manipulative. You had every right to your seat and your space. Props to you for standing your ground, and huge respect to the flight attendants for backing you up." A third added: "Omg lying abt [about] being ur [your] fam [family] is wild. If they'll fake that, imagine what else they pull daily." A fourth remarked: "Imagine lying to the crew about being my family to steal my business class seat... then getting mad when I don't agree to the scam. I paid for that space, not to babysit someone else's travel drama." Many avid TikTokkers will have seen videos of people trying out the hack, which has been touted as an ingenious way to help you sleep on a long flight. But now, flight attendants are hitting back in a bid to depopularise the trend — and warn travellers about the serious risks it can pose (Picture: Getty Images) The seatbelt trend is a TikTok travel hack that promises plane passengers a comfortable sleeping position in their confined space. When settled in your assigned seat, the idea is to raise your knees to your chest and place your feet together on the seat. You then secure the seatbelt around your ankles so that your legs don't slide back down towards the ground, and your feet stay in place. So, considering many people have shared positive reviews of the hack, why are travel experts so against the trend? Gabby Secomb Flegg, a photographer, frequently shares her experiences of moving nearly halfway across the globe with her TikTok followers under her @scotlandmagic account. Having landed in Edinburgh over four years ago, she often gets asked why she would ever choose to leave "beautiful, sunny Australia, for miserable, rainy old Scotland." She told her followers: "So I've decided to tell you three not so great things about living in Australia and why it is much better to live in Scotland." Warning - video below contains explicit language Speaking frankly, she continued: "I feel like I don't need to say this, but bugs. Cockroaches, spiders, lizards and snakes, I know they're not bugs, mosquitoes, literally crickets, bugs, just moths, everything. "They're just everywhere all the time and they're absolutely f***ing annoying and disgusting and I just can't stand them. There are no bugs in Scotland except for midges.", Gabby further elaborated that, contrary to popular belief, constant sunshine can be draining. For her third and final point, Gabby highlighted something she believes many Scots and Brits often overlook - the convenience of quick and affordable travel. She pointed out: "If you wanna fly in Australia, even internally, it is so freaking expensive and it takes ages. "Anytime I fly anywhere from here, people are like 'Oh God, it's a three-hour flight, quite a long haul flight' [...] There are many cons to living in Australia, many pros to living in Australia, but they are three very cool reasons why I was more than happy to leave."
