India's first bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is moving ahead at a rapid pace. The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has shared the latest progress on the 508-kilometer-long route. As of April 18, construction of viaducts elevated track structures has been completed on 293 kilometers of the route. Additionally, pier construction (supporting pillars) is done on 375 kilometers, and girder casting has been completed for 320 kilometers. NHSRCL also confirmed that bridges have been completed over all 14 rivers that fall along the route. Bullet train route

In addition, seven steel bridges and five PSC (pre-stressed concrete) bridges are also completed. Noise barriers and track work in Gujarat:
In Gujarat, NHSRCL is installing noise barriers along the viaducts to reduce sound pollution. So far, around 3 lakh (300,000) noise barriers have been put up along 150 kilometers of the route. Nearly 143 kilometers of track bed has been prepared in the state.
Work is also underway to weld rail tracks and create 200-meter-long panels on the viaducts. Overhead Equipment (OHE) masts—used to carry power lines for the train—are being installed. Between the Surat and Bilimora stations, more than 100 OHE masts have already been set up, covering nearly 2 kilometers of the main viaduct. A 21-km-long tunnel is being constructed between BKC (Bandra-Kurla Complex) and Shilphata in Maharashtra. Using the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM), around 3.3 km of the tunnel has already been completed from both ends — Shilphata and Adit portal.
Excavation has also progressed at other points: 56 meters deep at the Vikhroli shaft

In Palghar district, work is ongoing for seven mountain tunnels using the NATM method. Station work in Gujarat & Maharashtra In Gujarat, the structural work at six out of eight stations has been completed.
In Maharashtra, construction has started at all three elevated stations. Mumbai Station Construction Base slab work is currently in progress at the Mumbai bullet train station.
About 75% of the required excavation is complete (roughly 1.4 million cubic meters out of the total 1.87 million cubic meters needed).
The base slab will be built at the deepest level of the station.
Around 200,000 cubic meters of concrete will be needed just for the base slab.
So far, 25,000 cubic meters of concrete has already been poured.
Each base slab casting needs 3,000 to 4,000 cubic meters of concrete, which is being produced on-site using a batching plant and chiller plant to maintain the correct temperature.

The final breakthrough of the tunnel was completed on May 30."Constructing the tunnels in the hilly terrains amid several challenges is an achievement," said ECoR in a data revelaed that the total tunnel length of this new line project is 12.76 km. Nayagarh district has three tunnels while Boudh district has four tunnels.

According to the corporation, the viaducts include bridges over six rivers flowing through Gujarat, namely Par and Auranga in Valsad, Purna, Mindhola, Ambika and Venganiya rivers in Navsari district. Besides the viaducts, 383 km of pier work, 401 km of foundation and 326 km of girder casting has been completed for the 508-km bullet train project, the agency said. FSLM has significantly accelerated construction, as full-span girder erection is up to 10 times faster than conventional segmental methods, NHSRCL said. Each full-span box girder weighs 970 metric tonnes, and segmental girders are used selectively in locations where full-span installation is not feasible. It further said that the viaducts are built using 40-metre-long full span box girders and segmental girders. To facilitate construction, 27 dedicated casting yards were established along the corridor. Steel bridges are fabricated in seven workshops spread across the country, three in Gujarat, one each in Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and West Bengal, the NHSRCL said. The agency said more than 3 lakh noise barriers have been installed along the viaducts to mitigate noise during operations. Track works over viaducts have also started, and around 157 track km of RC (reinforced concrete) track bed construction has been achieved so far in Gujarat. It further said that thematic Bullet Train stations are also rapidly taking shape. These stations will be integrated with rail and road-based transport systems to provide seamless travel to passengers and will be equipped with state-of-the-art passenger amenities. 'The project has supported the use of indigenously designed and manufactured equipment such as straddle carriers, launching gantries, bridge gantries, and girder transporters for construction," NHSRCL stated, adding that this marks a first for Indian infrastructure, showcasing India's growing capabilities in high-speed rail technology with the support from the Japanese government. All About Bullet Train Project The bullet train project connecting Mumbai with Ahmedabad will have 12 stations, including nine in Gujarat and three in Maharashtra. While the one in Mumbai is underground, the ones at Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati are elevated. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor project, being developed at the cost of Rs 1.08 lakh crore, was launched by PM Narendra Modi and his then-Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in September 2017. As per the shareholding pattern, the Government of India is to pay Rs 10,000 crore to the NHSRCL, while the two states involved, Gujarat and Maharashtra, are to pay Rs 5,000 crore each.
