The completion of the €2.24billion National Children's Hospital has been delayed once again - pushing the conclusion to at least September.
It was hoped that construction would be completed by June 2025. But now that timeline has been pushed to the beginning of the school year.
There was hope that the first patients could be treated in the hospital by Spring next year. Now, it is unlikely that the timeline will be met.
Instead it's believed that patients will have to wait until June 2026 to be treated at the facility which has been under construction since 2016. Initially the hospital was expected to cost €987million and that bill has now inflated to over €2.2billion.
The September date will mark the 15th time a completion date was issued by builder BAM. The Irish Times reports that the National Pediatric Hospital Development Board is not confident that this new date will be met.
It will take nine months for the new hospital to be ready for operation once the building is handed over to CHI, which operates the current Crumlin, Temple Street, Tallaght and Connolly children's hospitals. But migration to the new hospital cannot take place in Winter months due to the risks from respiratory illnesses.

Couple killed in St Stephen's Day hit-and-run died of traumatic injuries, inquest hears

More info A married couple from Dublin who were killed in an alleged hit and run incident on St Stephen's Day last year died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries, an inquest has heard. Anthony "Anto" Hogg (39) and his wife, Georgina Hogg-Moore (38) from Whitestown Avenue, Blanchardstown suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Blanchardstown Road North near the entrance to Blanchardstown Shopping Centre in Dublin at around 5.45pm on December 26, 2024. The couple, who had two children, had been out shopping at the post-Christmas sales and were on their way home when the collision occurred. Ms Hogg-Moore was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, while her husband died a short time later at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where he had been rushed by ambulance. A number of other pedestrians were also involved in the incident but no other injuries were reported. At a sitting of Dublin District Coroner's Court on Tuesday, a sister of Ms Hogg-Moore, Katie Moore, gave evidence of formally identifying her sister's body to gardaí at Dublin City Mortuary in Whitehall. A sister of Mr Hogg, Jennifer Hogg, also testified how she had identified her brother's body to gardaí at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown. (Image: Colin Keegan/Collins) Detective Inspector Jim McDermott applied for the two inquests to be adjourned under Section 25 (2) of the Coroners Act on the basis that criminal proceedings have already been initiated in relation to the deaths of the couple. A neighbour of the deceased, John Halpin (45) of Whitestown Avenue, Blanchardstown, was charged at a sitting of Dublin District Court on December 30, 2024 with four offences including two counts of dangerous driving causing death. Mr Halpin was also accused of two counts of hit-and-run and failing to offer assistance at the scene of the incident. Garda Alan Murphy gave evidence that the accused made no reply when charged. Mr Halpin was subsequently granted bail at a sitting of Cloverhill District Court in early January subject to strict conditions. The coroner, Clare Keane, said the results of a postmortem showed that the couple had both died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries due to a road traffic incident. Offering her condolences to relatives of Mr Hogg and Ms Hogg-Moore, Dr Keane granted the application and adjourned the inquests to a date to be fixed after the conclusion of related criminal proceedings. Tributes paid to motorcyclist who died following crash that killed Garda Kevin Flatley
'I saw him, a beautiful young man, in Beaumont Hospital, surrounded by an incredible team, fighting to save his life' Tributes have been paid to the motorcyclist who died in hospital over the weekend following a crash which also claimed the life of Garda Kevin Flatley. Izzet Can Berber, aged in his thirties, was involved in the fatal collision which occurred at Dublin speed checkpoint on the R132 at Lissenhall near Swords, North Dublin last month. Garda Kevin Flatley became the 90th officer to die in the line of duty in Ireland when he was hit by the motorcyclist during the collision on Sunday, May 11. Gardaí confirmed on Sunday morning that the motorcyclist involved in the collision had died as a result of his injuries in hospital. Garda Kevin Flatley According to a notice on Izzet Can Berber, of Balgriffin, Dublin 13 and formerly of Turkey and late of the Elliott Group (died) 'peacefully, in the wonderful care of staff in the ICU Unit in Beaumont Hospital with his loving wife by his side'. Predeceased by his parents Ayse and Ozer, he is the 'beloved husband of Caitríona'. 'Very sadly missed by his loving wife, his adored children Daniel, Emily and Kuzey, sister Gunes, parents-in-law Gerry and Patricia, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and his wide circle of friends in the motorbike community,' the notice reads It adds: Huzur içinde uyusun (may he rest in peace) A donation box will be in the funeral home with all donations going to the staff in the ICU unit in Beaumont Hospital while funeral arrangements will follow. In the condolences section one, person wrote: 'Such an unfortunate tragedy for both' while another offered: 'Deepest sympathy to Izzet's wife and family thinking of you all at this incredibly sad time. 'I saw him, a beautiful young man, in Beaumont Hospital, surrounded by an incredible team, fighting to save his life. 'May he always be an inspiration to his children, a family man with a great work ethic, unfortunately taken in the prime of his life.' Another offers: 'Our heartfelt sympathy to you, the children, yours and Jan's immediate and extended family and friends. Thank you so much for that.' 'I am deeply sorry for your loss,' another mourner wrote. 'There are no words that can truly ease the pain of losing someone so dear, but please know that my heart is with you, your three beautiful children and all Can's family during this incredibly difficult time. 'Can's memory will always live on through the love he gave through your beautiful family.' In a statement shared earlier with DublinLive, Mr Berber's wife Caitriona said: "He passed away peacefully holding my hand on Saturday night. "He was an amazing husband and even more amazing father to his son and two stepchildren. "And we are internally grateful to all our friends and family for the support over the last three weeks and also want to thank the doctors and nurses in ICU who did everything in their power to save him and support our family though his time there." Garda Family Liaison Officers are providing ongoing support and information to both the Flatley and Berber families. Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
