Arkansas Adds Texas Offensive Lineman to 2026 Recruiting Class
The Arkansas Razorbacks have added another key piece to their 2026 recruiting puzzle with the commitment of offensive lineman Hugh Smith out of Missouri City (Texas) Ridge Point High School. Smith becomes the 15th pledge in Arkansas' class and the second from Ridge Point in as many weeks, reinforcing the program's continued reach into talent-rich areas outside state borders.
A Strategic Addition to the Trenches
Hugh Smith, listed at 6-foot-4 and 300 pounds, announced his commitment Wednesday morning, becoming one of several out-of-state prospects to join head coach Sam Pittman's growing class. Smith chose Arkansas over offers from Ole Miss, Missouri, Kansas State, Houston, Arizona State, and others. His recruitment was led by offensive line coach Eric Mateos, who initially evaluated him during a Razorback camp in June 2024 and extended an offer in early 2025.

'It all started with my relationship with Coach Mateos,' Smith said. 'He's been recruiting me since he was at Baylor, and that stuck with me.'
Smith's versatility up front made him a fit for Arkansas' system, with Mateos prioritizing linemen capable of shifting across positions, a quality that aligns with Smith's strengths and preferences in a run-oriented scheme.
Locked In and Focused
While Smith originally anticipated taking multiple official visits, he's now set on Arkansas and plans to forgo trips elsewhere.
'I just don't see a point to really go on the other ones when I'm committing to Arkansas,' he said. 'That's just my view of it.'

According to 247Sports, Smith is rated the No. 80 interior offensive lineman nationally and the No. 143 overall prospect in Texas for the 2026 class. On3 ranks him as the No. 952 overall player in the country.
SEC Appeal and Long-Term Vision
Smith cited the competitiveness of the SEC and the development opportunities it offers as significant factors in his decision. For him, Arkansas presents a path aligned with his professional aspirations.
'My goal is to get to the NFL,' Smith said. 'To get there, you've got to go against the best, and that's in the SEC.'
The recent commitment of teammate Robert Haynes IV added a layer of familiarity. While the two didn't coordinate their decisions, Smith acknowledged it was a bonus to have a close friend joining him in Fayetteville.
Building Momentum in the 2026 Class
Smith joins a class with blue-chip recruits like four-star edge rusher Colton Yarbrough, wideout Dequane Prevo, and tight end Jaivion Martin. Only two of the current 15 commitments hail from Arkansas, a reflection of the program's expanding recruiting footprint.

Nationally, Arkansas' 2026 class sits inside the top 20 across multiple rankings, No. 16 in the 247Sports Composite and No. 25 in the On3 Industry Team Rankings.
Smith's message to Razorback fans was brief but clear: 'I'm excited to be out on the field and play for them. Go Hogs.'

Arkansas 11, Tennessee 4 The Volunteers will not repeat as national champions after being swept in the Fayetteville Super Regional by the host Razorbacks. After losing Saturday's opener, 4-3, Tennessee felt apart with its season and a return trip to Omaha at stake. Advertisement Arkansas opened up a 7-1 lead with a five-run fourth inning. Logan Maxwell hit a grand slam off AJ Russell, the Vols' third pitcher of the inning. The Razorbacks loaded the bases on singles by Cam Kozeal and Reese Robinett, followed by an intentional walk to Charles Davalan to set up a force play. But Tennessee pitcher Liam Doyle allowed a run to score on a wild pitch and Brayden Krenzel hit Wehiwa Aloy with a pitch to load the bases again for Maxwell's big blow.
