A new indoor pickleball facility debuts in Rancho Cordova this weekend, marking The Picklr franchise's first California location.
The Utah-based Picklr brand has grown to more than 70 clubs nationwide. Its latest venue occupies a 30,000-square-foot former warehouse at 11135 Trade Center Drive, adjacent to Pickup USA, an indoor basketball gym.
A second Picklr location in California is planned for Vista, near San Diego, according to the company's website.
'We're gonna have food trucks, vendors, a DJ, raffle prizes, and on Saturday, anyone can come and play,' assistant club coordinator Britany Marsico said. 'Even if you're not a member, and you're on the fence about being a member, you can come and play and check it out.'
The Rancho Cordova facility will operate daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., Marsico said.
Saturday's grand opening event is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It is played with paddles and perforated plastic balls on a smaller court.
The Picklr is offering a promotional membership at $159 per month during its opening day, increasing to $169 starting Sunday.
Non-members can participate in clinics for $15, open play and competitive events for $25, AI coaching for $30, tournaments for $60, hourly court reservations for $80, and Picklr leagues for $120, an eight-week option for $15 per week.
Laura Fickle, economic development manager for the city of Rancho Cordova, welcomed the addition of the facility, saying it adds to the city's growing recreational landscape.
'The more amenities we can bring to the city that give our constituents and people throughout the region opportunities to play and recreate and have fun and lead healthy lives, the better,' Fickle said.
Rancho Cordova, incorporated 22 years ago, has a population of nearly 83,000. Fickle said the new facility supports local job growth and builds on the city's reputation for diverse sports offerings.
'We have indoor soccer, volleyball, basketball, and a ton of training facilities,' she said. 'It just speaks to our diversity as a community to be able to accommodate these kinds of uses. Having this space available for this kind of use was serendipitous. I mean, it really was. And the owners saw the vision too, which is really important to us.'
Co-owners Manish Kapadia and Eunice Lee expressed excitement about opening the facility to the public.
'We're really excited to be here and to draw other people from other surrounding areas here too,' Lee said. 'We are really appreciative of our cooperation. We also are really grateful for our staff, our front desk coordinators and our instructors.'
Kapadia also emphasized community support.
'We just want to be able to provide that experience and that energy and really foster the community of pickleball at the Picklr,' Marsico said. 'For Rancho, I really feel like this is just a great opportunity to bring the community together.'
Marsico added that they want people to 'come try it out.'
'We want people to experience and it doesn't necessarily need to be for people who have been playing for a long time,' she said. 'We want the Rancho community to come here and play.'

George Russell Shares Honest Truth About Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari Gamble

George Russell Shares Honest Truth About Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari Gamble originally appeared on Athlon Sports. If you're wondering whether Lewis Hamilton's bold jump to Ferrari was a misstep, George Russell has a different take: the split has been a needed reset—good for Hamilton and good for Mercedes. While the seven-time world champion grinds through a bruising first year in red, Russell says the shake-up has helped both sides refocus on what matters most: performance. Hamilton's Ferrari story has been a rollercoaster. The high point came early with a Sprint pole and victory in China, proof that, on the right weekend, the 40-year-old can still bend a field to his will. But his recent form has been unforgiving. At the Hungaroring, a track where he owns records for poles and wins, Hamilton qualified and finished 12th. He then went on to call himself 'useless' over the radio before doubling down in TV interviews. He even quipped that Ferrari should 'probably change driver,' an unusually blunt self-assessment from the sport's all-time win leader. Russell's view cuts through the noise. With Hamilton gone, Mercedes hit the reset button and elevated teenager Andrea Kimi Antonelli alongside him for 2025, giving the young Italian huge shoes to fill, but a clear signal that the Brackley-based team is building for the next era. Russell has urged patience as both Hamilton and Mercedes navigate transition years with cars that have been tricky to unlock week-to-week. For Hamilton, the bigger picture still matters. The 2026 rules overhaul promises radically different cars and power units, lighter chassis, active aero, and a far more electrified hybrid package running on sustainable fuels. That kind of clean slate can reshuffle the competitive order and give veterans with elite race craft and teams that execute a fresh shot at the summit. So is Hamilton's Ferrari gamble failing? Not if you zoom evidence of peak days (China), hard lessons (Hungary), and a horizon (2026) where experience and adaptability will be priceless. Russell's message lands as both pragmatic and respectful: sometimes you need to break the mold to find a better one. For Hamilton. The bet is that the short-term pain buys a chance to fight for history under a new rulebook. Given his resume, writing off now would be the real story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 17, 2025, where it first appeared.

Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte returns soon, when to get your PSL fix

Starbucks has announced the highly anticipated return date of the fall fan-favorite Pumpkin Spice Latte. When does Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice Latte come out? Although the fall equinox isn't until Sept. 22, the cultural phenomenon and seasonal sensation drink that first hit the Seattle-based coffee chain's menus more than 20 years ago will officially be back at Starbucks before then, on Aug. 26. Consumer interest in the seasonal spice-laden lattes has spiked earlier than ever, according to Google Trends, which showed an uptick in searches starting in mid-June vs. mid-July in 2024. New fall menu items coming to Starbucks this PSL season With the unofficial start of fall at Starbucks coffeehouses come more returning favorites and a new selection of drinks and bites. First up is a new Pecan Oatmilk Cortado, a coffee drink with a 1:1 ratio of espresso to steamed milk, amplifying another nutty fall flavor. In keeping with the high-protein food trends, Starbucks has added another option to its already popular egg bites with a new Italian sausage version. Returning alongside the PSL is the fan-favorite Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai and Pecan Crunch Oatmilk Latte. Starbucks fall flavors hit grocery stores this summer With more people tapping into the trend of Summerween, Starbucks announced its at-home line of fall products early, with K-Cup pods and Nespresso capsules already available in grocery stores. Joining the lineup this year is a new Starbucks Maple Pecan Latte-inspired nondairy creamer. The Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte-inspired creamer is also back in both dairy and non-dairy options. At-home coffee fans can also snag Starbucks' Fall Blend or Smoked Butterscotch Flavored Coffee, available in K-Cup Pods and roast and ground varieties, and Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Flavored Coffee, which is also available as Nespresso for Vertuo capsules. Starbucks' ready-to-drink beverages -- including the Pumpkin Spice Flavored Coffee, available in RTD Iced Espresso and RTD Frappuccino Chilled Coffee Drink -- are available as well.
