Rohit Purohit opened up about what it truly takes to keep a show like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai relevant and impactful. Rohit Purohit continues to win hearts with his portrayal of Armaan Poddar in the long-running StarPlus show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. With 16 months of leading Rajan Shahi's iconic daily soap, Rohit's journey has been both celebrated and critically appreciated. This week, the show reclaimed its top spot on the TRP charts, proving once again that audience connect lies in consistent storytelling and this is something that Rohit strongly believes in. While riding high on success, Rohit opened up about what it truly takes to keep a show like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai relevant and impactful. Speaking to the Times of India, he shared his thoughts on how Indian television has evolved and why emotional storytelling remains the backbone of long-standing shows. Rohit Purohit On Indian Television Shows Rohit believes that a show can only make a lasting impact if it stays rooted in its core values. 'A show can only stay relevant and impactful if it is rooted in its core values. You need to be clear about the story you're telling and stay honest with it. The narrative has to reflect the times and still hold on to the emotional essence that drew people initially," he shared. Using Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai as an example, he pointed out, 'It has always celebrated family bonds, relationships, festivals, conflicts and reconciliations and that the emotional core has remained intact. That's what keeps people connected." Rohit Purohit on Social Media's Role In Shaping Modern Viewership Rohit also acknowledged how drastically the audience landscape has changed in the age of social media. He shared, 'The audience today is very expressive and engaged. Their feedback does influence creative decisions. Loyal viewers often notice small clues, track BTS updates and try to predict upcoming twists." At the same time, he believes storytelling needs its own pace. 'You can't always rush or change things just because of a reaction. Sometimes, you have to trust the process and the long arc of storytelling," he added. Rohit Purohit On What Keeps A Long-Running Show Fresh? While the legacy of YRKKH is undeniable, sustaining freshness over the years is a challenge. He said, 'The biggest challenge is keeping the entire team emotionally and creatively invested over time. You can't ignore when a track isn't working or when a character no longer serves the story. But changes must still respect the original soul of the show." Rohit Purohit On The Power Of Strong Characters According to Rohit, character development holds as much weight as narrative twists. He shared, 'If your characters are strong and consistent, the audience stays emotionally invested. But a twist at the right moment adds energy and movement to the character's core for the sake of shock value. It has to feel natural and earned." Rohit Purohit on Why Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai Remains Timeless Reflecting on how YRKKH continues to strike a chord after more than a decade, Rohit said, 'Life itself has changed, issues are more complex, layered. So the show must evolve, but not lose sight of its heart. The emotional grounding is what makes a show timeless." He concluded with a thought that captures the essence of the show's success, saying, 'Ultimately, it's about honesty, passion and storytelling that adapts while staying true to the soul." Recently, Rohit Purohit won the Fan Favourite – Actor award at the prestigious Indian Telly Awards, while co-actor Samridhii Shukla and the entire Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai team swept multiple accolades. The celebration was not just for a milestone achieved, but for a legacy being upheld.
