Iowa Woman Fatally Shoots Husband After He Threatened to Hurt Her Dog

An Iowa woman is charged with murder after shooting her husband earlier this week.
According to Cedar Falls police, officers responded to a home on Wednesday night to reports of a domestic dispute where someone had been shot.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found 72-year-old David Alan Charlton dead. His wife, 66-year-old Kimberly Ann Charlton, was taken into police custody at the scene.
Kimberly Told Investigators David Attempted to Assault Her but Her Dog Intervened
According to a criminal complaint obtained by WKYT, Kimberly Charlton told investigators that David Charlton had attempted to physically assault her while in a bedroom when the family dog stopped it.
Authorities said David Charlton then left the room, equipped himself with a walking cane and returned, threatening to hit the dog. He then followed the dog out the door of the room and down a hallway.
Kimberly Said She Shot David in the Back As He Was About to Hit the Dog
The complaint stated that as he was walking away from the room, Kimberly Charlton grabbed a gun from a Crown Royal bag and pointed it at his back. Kimberly Charlton told officers that she warned her husband that she was going to shoot him if he did not stop following the dog.
The 66-year-old admitted to pulling the trigger and shooting David Charlton in the back, police said. Kimberly Charlton has been charged with first-degree murder, a felony charge that comes with an automatic life sentence in Iowa if convicted.

Leeds United eye summer move for Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis

Leeds United have Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis on their radar as they look to further strengthen their attacking options this summer, according to the BBC. Leeds are set to announce Dominic Calvert-Lewin at any moment from now after he had a medical on Wednesday, but the Elland Road club want another striker. Ioannidis has now emerged as a potential target as Whites manager Daniel Farke prepares for life back in the Premier League, and the 25-year-old Greece international could be keen on a move. Ioannidis has been linked with the Premier League in recent windows, and he could finally be on his way to England if Leeds firm up their interest with a bid. Ipswich Town wanted the 'dangerous' Panathinaikos star last summer, and West Ham United were reportedly looking to sign him during the last January transfer window. Leicester City also wanted him a year ago and he is unlikely to be short of interest as the West Yorkshire club look to recruit his services. The 6ft 2in number 9 has dominated the Super League Greece recently, with 34 goals to his name over the last two campaigns. His style of play is perfect for the Premier League club, and he could prove to be a hit with Leeds should a deal work out. Farke needs all the attacking firepower he can get in his bid to keep the Whites up given his underwhelming managerial record in the top-flight. AC Milan attacker Noah Okafor is also under consideration, while Tottenham Hotspur winger Manor Solomon reportedly wishes to return to Leeds after his return of ten goals and 13 assists in 41 games during his loan spell last term. It is very crucial for the club to hit the ground running when they kick off the 2025-26 Premier League campaign at home against Everton on Monday, and Farke could do with much-needed additions to his squad in the coming days.

Hill ready to shake things up to get Daisies going

Daisy Hill travel to Merseyside tomorrow for their first ever meeting with MSB Woolton in the North West Counties League First Division North (3pm). This weekend's hosts joined the league in the summer, having successfully grown the club over many years to having around 238 teams under its banner at all levels, making them one of the biggest clubs in Europe. They will play home games this season at the Jericho Sports Complex, in Aigburth, which they share with fellow North West Counties League club South Liverpool, although plans are under way for their home base at Simpson's Football Ground to be developed to host first-team games in the near future. The league new boys have had a tough start to their campaign, losing both of their games so far and conceding seven goals in the process. However, with Daisy having taken just the one point from their opening three games, manager Lee Hill is hoping some changes in the squad will deliver the elusive first win of the season for his side. 'You have to accept the recent results and move on, because nothing obviously can change that, so we have to take it and put it aside,' said Hill. 'But also, we do have to look at what we could have done to change the result, such as missing chances that could have given us goals to put us ahead and maybe out of sight. 'The chances are being created, all the things that we're looking at are happening, but obviously you're not judged on chances. 'You don't win games on chances, you win games by scoring goals. 'So we do have to have a look at the fine details on that, work and improve on those and hopefully we can stop coming out on the wrong side of these fine margins. 'I think we needed to have a look at a couple of changes but we've got a couple of injuries as well, so naturally that would have happened anyway.' Although MSB Woolton have made a poor start to their first season in the league, Hill believes it's too early to be drawing conclusions on those two results. 'If you look at the results in the division so far, it's been a crazy sort of opening start to the season,' he added. 'Some teams you would expect to have won all three games haven't. 'So all we can do really is prepare the best we can and concentrate on ourselves. 'Pitches are hard and dry at the minute, and with the game being on a 4G pitch that does make a difference, to a degree. We are used to training and playing on one and obviously they'll be used to it as well, so it doesn't necessarily level it up and give us an advantage. 'We'll prepare for the game well, and hopefully we can get the win we need to keep their bad run going and to change our fortunes.'
