Andorra la Vella is located 1,023m above sea level and covers only five square miles but has plenty to offer.
Tourists flock to the small city for its stunning scenery, duty free shopping and one of the biggest SPA complexes in Europe.
Andorra la Vella can be a perfect day trip destination while you stay in bigger cities in France or Spain.
The Andorran capital is a haven for shopaholics with a so-called Shopping Mile lined with department stores and duty-free shopping.
Avinguda Meritxell offers a shopping scene with one of the lowest VATs across Europe which means luxury goods for cheaper prices.
The Caldea Spa, the biggest thermal spa in southern Europe, is the city's other major draw.
It was created in 1987 with the use of the area's naturally occurring hot springs.
There are hammams, saunas, and different kinds of baths inside, as well as an outdoor lagoon where you can unwind while taking in the breathtaking views of the mountains.
Three hours of access is included in the basic package, which costs €30.50.
The city's Old Town is a must-see for anyone hoping to take in some of its charming architecture.
The European city with cheap UK flights, famous lagoon spas and summers where the sun never sets
Casa de la Vall, a stone mansion constructed in 1580 for a wealthy family and formerly the seat of Andorra's parliament, can be found here.
Although Casa de la Vall is currently closed for renovations, visitors can still view the General Council area from 10am to 2pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Meanwhile, history lovers could head to a pre-Romanesque church which dates back to the 9th century.
Adventure-seekers would love Andorra's hiking and cycling trails in the mountains, suitable for different ages and skill levels.
Summers in Andorra get hot with average temperatures of 24C but winters can get chilly with just 8C in January and February.
However, if you'd like to try local cuisine, especially the famous Escudella, it is best to come during Christmas time.
Escudella is Andorra's national stew made from seasonal vegetables, meats and local sausages.
You can find it in traditional "bordas," which are former storehouses converted into restaurants.
But to get to Andorra la Vella, visitors will have to switch multiple transport modes or hire a car.
Without airports or railway, the only way to the small capital is through France and Spain.
If you're travelling from France, the closest station to Andorra la Vella is Andorre-l'Hospitalet, just seven miles away from the country's border.
Those coming from Spain can take a high-speed train from Madrid or Barcelona to Lleida Pirineus.
A one-way journey from Madrid costs €75.75 and takes 2 hours and 8 minutes.
Once you reach these train stations, you can simply grab a taxi to the city centre.
Travellers from Barcelona also have an option of taking a coach from Barcelona Sants Coach Station directly to Andorra La Vella.
A one-way Flixbus coach costs just £27.41 and takes three hours.

The mum revealed the tiny amount of tax they pay annually HOUSE ABOUT IT We bought a huge 3-bed home in Bulgaria without viewing for £25k, we've quit the UK with our kids, every day's a holiday BUYING a home can be expensive in the UK - and one couple decided to think outside the box. The large family pad needed quite a bit of work to it, and they have been updating following with their renovation journey. On their @renovatebulgariaw account, they revealed that they bought the house on a whim. They wrote: 'We bought this three-bedroom house in Bulgaria without viewing on a spontaneous Wednesday afternoon. 'Three bedrooms, half an acre of land, outbuildings.' One of the first jobs they tackled when they moved in was adding a working toilet to the bathroom, as it didn't have one. Thankfully they did have a working shower and sink to get them started. They've also replaced the windows, laid a new stylish floor and added a fire, which looked perfect for winter. The couple shared how they have decked out the house with bargain furniture that they have upcycled to make them look stylish. This included £15 chairs and a £15 dresser. I fled the UK for sunny Dubai - life back home is miserable & no-one has any cash Given the national average house price in the UK was reported at £264,500 in 2024, the family's Bulgarian home is an affordable alternative. As well as managing to snap up a cheap property, the couple shared how living costs are less in Bulgaria too. The mum wrote: 'You pay a tax yearly, like council tax, which is around £45. 'Then there is water and electric to pay, costs are very low compared to UK.' While the renovation appears to be a large project, the family have been taking advantage of a nearby pool and stunning lakes and hikes. And thankfully the kids are said to love their new home, with the mum saying: 'It's lovely.' Many people were impressed with their DIY renovation, with one saying: 'amazing house.' Another added: 'Everything you've done so far looks incredible!' A third commented: 'What a life.'

‘Eurostar of Scotland' launches new London service with 11 stops

A new direct train from London to Scotland is set to launch in the spring of 2026. Operated by Lumo, the service will stop at 11 stations, with five daily trains running each way. Departing from London Euston, the train will journey through central Scotland, arriving in Stirling. It will be the first time three of the destinations – Whifflet, Greenfaulds and Larbert – have had a direct service to the capital. While Avanti West Coast, LNER and TransPennine Express already operate on this line, Lumo will be the only 'open-access' service — meaning it's not subsidised by the government. And that means competitive prices and better service, Zoe Adjey, senior lecturer at the Institute of Tourism and Hospitality at the University of East London tells Metro. According to Zoe, tickets will 'certainly be cheaper'. This will come as good news to seasoned travellers. An advanced single ticket from Euston to Stirling with LNER currently costs a hefty £95.50. And, with new competition, the overall travelling experience is likely to be improved. 'The service enhancement will significantly improve the passenger experience, especially compared to air travel,' says Zoe. 'Air travel requires an initial transit to one of London's airports, followed by a two-hour wait for the flight, then a two-hour flight time. 'In contrast, rail travel involves just a quick journey to Euston station, followed by a five-hour train journey with WiFi, refreshments, and enhanced onboard services. London Euston Milton Keynes Nuneaton Crewe Preston Carlisle Lockerbie Motherwell Whifflet Greenfaulds Larbert Stirling 'Passengers will get city center to city center connectivity, eliminating lengthy airport transfers and security procedures. 'It's like choosing between Eurostar and flying when traveling to Paris or Brussels,' she adds. 'The train offers greater convenience despite the longer journey time.' More Trending Zoe says travellers will also get more choice. 'The increased frequency of services will also provide greater scheduling flexibility and reduced waiting times,' she concludes. Plus, the new train route could see some of the stops become tourist destinations. 'Visitors from London will find it easier easier access to Scotland's historic sites and natural landscapes around Stirling, while Scottish tourists gain improved access to London's attractions,' says Zoe. Competition for the Eurostar has been hotting up. Richard Branson's Virgin Group announced said there are 'no more major hurdles to overcome' in its £700million rail project to operate cross-channel trains. Meanwhile Italy's national state-owned railway company, Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS Group)said it will launch a new high-speed rail service between London and Paris by 2029. A popular European train line is operating again, after being closed since August 2023. The direct route takes passengers from Paris Gare de Lyon station in France all the way to Milan in Italy (via Turin), with tickets starting from as little as £25.33 each way (just under €30) if you book in advance, according to A brand-new sleeper train is set to connect five European countries in one route for the first time, spanning an impressive 745 miles. Starting in the Polish capital of Warsaw, the new link will run all the way to the Croatian city of Rijeka, known for its glistening beaches, waterfalls, and 13th-century castle.
