Eighteen stations from Gujarat featured on the list of 103 Amrit Bharat stations virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel was present at the Limbdi railway station in Surendranagar for the symbolic inauguration on ground.
The 18 stations in Gujarat include Sihor, Utaran, Dakor, Derol, Hapa, Jamjodhpur, Jamvanthali, Kanalus, Karamsad, Kosamba, Limbdi, Mahuva, Mithapur, Morbi, Okha, Palitana, Rajula, and Samkhyali. These stations will have enhanced upgrades, including platforms resurfaced and fitted with tactile guidance tiles, warning tiles, and low-height water taps to ensure comfort and accessibility for the specially abled passengers.
A release from the Western Railways said that the renovated platform shelters offer 'improved crowd management' while 'inclusive accessible amenities' for physically challenged persons include friendly toilets, ramps, dedicated parking areas as well as dedicated vehicle lanes and pedestrian walkways for seamless traffic flow. New Coach Guidance Display Boards (CGDBs) have been installed to offer real-time coach positions for incoming trains.

Describing the strategic location of Limbdi station, the WR said, 'Limbdi Railway Station has long served as a vital link in the Western Railway network, connecting cities like Bhavnagar and Surat and supporting the region's growing economy. With a daily footfall of over 1,300 passengers, the station plays a key role in facilitating both passenger travel and local trade. Historically developed to strengthen regional mobility, it has now emerged as a key transit point in Gujarat's evolving rail infrastructure. The station, which has been modernised under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) with an investment of Rs 10.55 crore, has undergone a transformation aimed at enhancing functionality, aesthetics, and inclusivity.'
While the Railways describes Dakor in Kheda district as a place known to be a spiritual town due to the presence of the Ranchhodrai temple, Derol in Panchmahal district serves as a key station on the Vadodara-Delhi Rajdhani route. Palitana in Bhavnagar district is pivotal for both pilgrimage and trade.
In Jamnagar district, Hapa and Jamjodhpur stations have been transformed as gateways for regional trade and industrialisation while Kanalus station in Rajkot, located just 26 kilometres from Jamnagar, has been developed for its proximity to the Reliance refinery.
Mithapur Railway station, 10 kilometre from Okha, has been described as a key access point 'for the industrial hub of Tata Chemicals in Gujarat' while Okha station is strategic for 'tourism and industry', facilitating travel to cities like Puri, Rameswaram, Guwahati, Dehradun and Varanasi.
The Railways also describe Mahuva as 'Kashmir of Saurashtra', stating that the station 'supports a thriving agricultural economy' while serving as a 'crucial conduit' for passenger and freight trains.

Gujarat HC dismisses plea seeking injunction order to Mahatma Gandhi Sabarmati Ashram Memorial Trust from dispossessing family
Gujarat High Court (HC) on Tuesday dismissed a petition moved by a family living on a property within the Gandhi Ashram precincts, seeking injunction order to Mahatma Gandhi Sabarmati Ashram Memorial Trust (MGSAMT) from dispossessing them from two suit properties measuring a total of 6,000 square yards on which they claimed tenancy rights. The court of Justice Sanjeev Thaker passed the order. The MGSAMT is implementing the Rs 1,200 crore Sabarmati Ashram redevelopment project. The petition was moved by one Mohanbhai Rathod and his family members, who challenged the orders of a Small Causes Court and an appellate court rejecting their application to issue an injunction order for two properties over which they claimed tenancy rights. Originally, the plaintiff had moved a house rent petition (HRP) suit before the Small Causes Court with reference to three properties — A, B and C — situated within Sabarmati Ashram precincts. Property B is a residential accommodation and properties A and C are plots of land. They had also sought injunction orders against the concerned trust of the ashram in 2014 while claiming tenancy rights. The Small Causes Court had in 2019 granted injunction for Property B, while rejecting the application for properties A and C. This order was challenged before the appellate court which upheld the order. Following this, the plaintiff moved a revision application before the HC, which rejected the revision application while upholding the order of the appellate court. The plaintiff, among other things, had argued that the properties in dispute were handed over to the grandfather of the plaintiff by the trustee of the trust concerned somewhere in 1930. They also argued that the defendant trust accepted the rent for the all three properties since 1977. The defendant trust opposed the petition while arguing that there is nothing in the evidence, including rent receipts produced by the plaintiff, to suggest that the properties referred to in it are with respect to the property mentioned as Properties A and C.

According to a press briefing from the government on June 10, the defence budget has climbed from Rs 2.53 lakh crore in 2013–14 to Rs 6.81 lakh crore in 2025–26 . In parallel, indigenous defence manufacturing reached a record Rs 1.27 lakh crore in 2023–24—an increase of 174 per cent over the 2014–15 level. Officials say production now meets about 65 per cent of defence requirements, compared to a heavy earlier dependence on imports. The Ministry of Defence signed 193 contracts worth Rs 2.09 lakh crore in 2024–25, with 177 contracts awarded to domestic firms for Rs 1.69 lakh crore. The private sector's role in defence output has also risen, contributing roughly 21 per cent, while over 430 licensed firms and 16,000 MSMEs now support a broad industrial base. Another area of shift has been gender inclusion. Around 11,000 women now serve as officers in the armed forces, up from approximately 3,000 in 2014. In addition, 507 women have been granted permanent commissions to advance career progression. Beyond mere numbers, the period has included doctrinal and operational changes. Reports highlight enhanced counter-terrorism actions and strategic border operations undertaken to protect internal security. Challenges for India's defence sector Despite notable gains, India's sector still faces major hurdles. These include quality control, delays in project execution, limited R&D spending, and a need for deeper integration between defence PSUs and private industry. India also remains dependent on foreign technology for jet engines, stealth systems, and advanced sensors. Additionally, while defence indigenisation has increased in scale, true technological self-reliance will require consistent investment in research, talent retention, and long-term strategic planning.
