Fasten your seatbelts, travellers! AirAsia X (AAX) is soaring into its next chapter of growth with the announcement of a long-awaited route to Istanbul, Türkiye, a city where East meets West! The new direct service between Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul will commence on 14th November 2025 with four weekly flights, marking another significant step in AAX's global network expansion.
This strategic launch marks AAX's long-anticipated entry into Europe, opening a vital gateway linking Southeast Asia to Europe via one of the world's most historically-rich and geographically-unique destinations. Straddling two continents across the Bosphorus Strait, Istanbul offers travellers the rare opportunity to experience the best of both worlds.
The airline will operate from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW), a major hub with connections to over 117 international and 40 domestic destinations. This provides guests from Southeast Asia even greater onward travel options, while giving travellers from Istanbul and beyond seamless access to AirAsia's network of 130 destinations at unbeatable value.
Benyamin Ismail, CEO of AirAsia X said: 'Istanbul has always been a dream destination for many of our guests, and its launch marks another proud moment in our journey to rebuild stronger than ever. Hot on the heels of our recent expansion into Central Asia, this long-awaited route takes us one step closer to delivering longer connectivity across continents. As the only city in the world built on two continents, Istanbul perfectly captures our vision to bridge Asia and beyond through affordable, medium-haul travel. This is a strategic decision that strengthens our network, creates more pathways for business collaboration, and enhances access to new experiences for travellers around the world.
'This new route also opens the door to an affordable Umrah Plus Istanbul package offered by ikhlas.com, the Islamic lifestyle arm of Capital A, giving our Muslim guests the opportunity to combine their spiritual journey with a visit to one of the world's most iconic cities. From Istanbul, our guests can connect seamlessly to destinations across Asia, including Indonesia, Australia, Singapore, China, Thailand and more through our convenient Fly-Thru service, without the need to recheck baggage. Likewise, travellers from Europe and beyond can now access the wonders of Southeast Asia with ease through our extensive network.'
H.E. Emir Salim Yüksel, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Malaysia added: 'This new additional connection between Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul is a tangible step in strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Malaysia and Türkiye. It will not only boost tourism flows, but also expand business links, foster industry collaboration, and open new pathways for education, innovation and people-to-people engagement. By enhancing air connectivity, we are bringing our regions closer in a way that benefits travellers, communities and economies alike.'
In celebration of this milestone, AAX is offering introductory first-come first-served promotional fares from RM499* all-in one way and from RM3,999* all-in one way for the airline's award-winning Premium Flatbed. Flights are available for booking starting today until 20th August 2025 for the travel period between 14th November 2025 and 14th September 2026, on airasia.com and the AirAsia MOVE app.
To double the celebration, all AirAsia guests can enjoy an exclusive promotion of up to 45%** off checked baggage when booking their flights, making their journey even more rewarding.
As Türkiye's largest city and economic powerhouse, Istanbul is a captivating destination that offers opportunities to travellers from all walks of life. From iconic landmarks like the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace, to the lively Grand Bazaar and Spice Market, the city is a treasure trove of history and vibrant local life.

Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said Mihas 2025 will feature more than 2,300 booths across 14 industry clusters. 'These 14 clusters include education, Muslim-friendly hospitality and tourism, food technology and packaging, pharmaceutical and medical, franchise, Islamic art and crafts, and logistics. 'Mihas has continuously increased participation and footfall, which reflects the support from international partners,' he said during the Mihas foreign mission networking hi-tea at the Matrade exhibition hall yesterday. Reezal Merican said the achievement had helped them lead Mihas internationally. He said Matrade had launched Mihas in Dubai last year and would expand it to Shanghai this year. 'Hopefully next year, we will organise Mihas in the European region, where Malaysian halal businesses can showcase their businesses internationally. 'The global halal market is currently worth over US$3.5 trillion (RM14.8 trillion). It is expected to reach US$5 trillion (RM21.2 trillion) by 2030,' he added. Matrade deputy chief executive officer Abu Bakar Yusof said Mihas 2025 will feature a special Asean and Gulf Cooperation Council pavilion. 'The six GCC member states are experiencing rapid growth, making it timely for Malaysia to explore ways to contribute and create better market opportunities for businesses from both regions. 'Malaysia has sustained a strong position with more than 200 partners, and we are moving up in the ranks of trade globally,' he said. Abu Bakar also urged foreign traders to utilise the new Madani Digital Trade platform, an artificial intelligence-based system that helps match Malaysian halal exporters, especially small medium enterprises with international buyers to support genuine cross-border deals. Meanwhile, Matrade director of halal, food and beverage and agro-based section Yusram Yusof said Malaysia has led the overall global Islamic economy indicator ranking for 11 consecutive years in the halal industry. 'The halal industry stands in the top 10 among other industries, contributing RM161bil to this year's gross domestic product,' he said. Last year, Malaysia's halal exports were valued at RM61.8bil, marking a 15% increase from the previous year. 'The sector supports more than 350,000 jobs nationwide and is anchored by 14 halal parks, which have attracted RM3.8bil in investments and are home to over 300 companies. He also said Malaysia has come up with a comprehensive halal ecosystem. 'If there are good strategies in place, we can meet the target set by our Prime Minister to achieve RM80bil halal export,' he added. Recently, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling the 13th Malaysia Plan, said Malaysia hoped to achieve RM80bil halal export. Mihas 2025, themed 'Pinnacle of Halal Excellence', will be held from Sept 17 to 20 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre.

Malaysia launches world's first syariah-compliant AI app

KUALA LUMPUR: The launch of NurAI, the world's first syariah-compliant application, is a technological solution to address factual inaccuracies related to Islamic fatwas and rulings that are often conveyed through artificial intelligence (AI) content on Western platforms. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic)said NurAI, which is based on the Large Language Model concept and developed entirely based on Islamic values, not only processes language but also understands manners, preserves the law and upholds the cultural dignity of Muslims. Ahmad Zahid, who officiated the launch, also said the application took into account that most AI systems are developed in the West 'but the values and priorities they bring are not necessarily in line with our way of life and aspirations,' Bernama reported. 'In fact, there are studies that have found that there are AI content related to Islam on Western platforms that contain bias or factual inaccuracies, thus presenting a negative image of our religion and culture. 'We have witnessed how AI systems give answers that contradict syariah principles when asked about Islamic financial law or quote unauthentic sources when discussing aqidah issues. This is a gap that we must close and InsyaAllah, I am confident that NurAI can do it,' he said. Ahmad Zahid added that this shift is not only a symbol of innovation, but also serves as an instrument of technological diplomacy in positioning Malaysia as a leader in syariah-compliant AI. 'It also opens the door to strategic cooperation with Asean countries and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, thus strengthening Malaysia's influence on the international stage. 'Make this platform the basis for shaping the thinking of the community, answering questions about halal and haram, providing guidance on zakat and faraid, providing syariah-compliant investment advice openly and ultimately guiding the community based on true and recognised Islamic disciplines,' he said. Ahmad Zahid hoped that the launch of NurAI would mark the start of a major movement involving the entire national ecosystem.

Syariah-compliant AI launched

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia aims to lead the world in syariah-compliant artificial intelligence (AI) with the launch of NurAI, the first syariah-compliant large language model, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He said NurAI builds on Malaysia's strengths as a global leader in halal certification, Islamic finance and syariah scholarship, positioning the nation to become a trusted digitalisation hub for the Islamic world. 'With consistent, strategic steps, Malaysia can lead in syariah-compliant AI, a field that will shape the future of the ummah, built on values and guided by divine revelation,' he said at the launch by Zetrix AI Bhd yesterday. He said the homegrown platform would safeguard Islamic principles while advancing national technological ambitions. 'We all know the 21st century is the Century of Data. Whoever controls data controls the narrative, whoever controls the narrative controls the future.' Ahmad Zahid said NurAI, developed entirely on Islamic values, goes beyond processing language to uphold adab (proper etiquette), respect the law and elevate Muslim culture. He said most AI systems are developed in the West or other major powers where priorities often do not align with Islamic principles, and cited studies showing bias or inaccuracies in online content about Islam. 'This risk arises when fatwa and rulings are quoted inaccurately or when subtle negative portrayals are embedded. There have been cases where AI contradicted syariah principles or cited unauthentic sources on aqidah. This is the gap we must close.' He outlined plans for a Global Syariah AI Reference Centre, AI integration in Islamic education, applications for mosque administration, zakat management, Quran teaching and international research collaborations grounded in Islamic values.
