Japan ispace's Resilience spacecraft Landing Live Updates: Resilience spacecraft is targetting to land in Moon's Mare Frigoris region. It is a vast, dark basaltic plain in the Moon's Northern Hemisphere, stretching over 1,400 kilometres in diameter.

The Resilience spacecraft will perform a short-duration de-orbit insertion burn to bring it closer to the lunar surface before landing sequence begins.
The Resilience spacecraft also carries a 5 kg rover, named Tenacious, in the payload bay at the top of the lander, with a deployment device to set the rover on the lunar surface. The rover is 26 cm tall, 31.5 cm wide, and 54 cm long. It is built of carbon-fiber reinforced plastics. It has a forward mounted HD camera. Communications with the ground will be transmitted through the lander. A shovel mounted on front of the rover will be used to collect a lunar sample, which will be photographed by the HD camera.
The decision to target Mare Frigoris is strategic. Unlike the rugged Atlas crater, where ispace’s first lander crashed, Mare Frigoris offers a flatter, more navigable terrain, which increases the chances of a safe landing.
According to ispace, the site was chosen for its “flexibility,” providing a broad, relatively smooth area that is less risky for touchdown. Additionally, the location offers extended periods of sunlight and uninterrupted communication with Earthâ€'two critical factors for the lander’s operations and the success of its scientific payloads.
Landing in Mare Frigoris also represents a milestone in lunar exploration, as it would be the most northerly landing ever attempted on the Moon.
The spacecraft will attempt a brave landing at a site called Mare Frigoris, or the “Sea of Cold.”
Mare Frigoris is a vast, dark basaltic plain in the Moon’s northern hemisphere, stretching over 1,400 kilometers in diameter.

It separated and deployed successfully approximately 90 minutes after launch. It reached the Moon after a 4 month low-energy trajectory involving a lunar flyby.
It went into lunar orbit May 6.
The Resilience spacecraft is currently in an orbit just 100 kilometres above the Moon. The spacecraft has been slowly lowering its orbit since its insertion into the lunar orbit just a few days ago.
Japan's ispace mission control team will shortly begin the landing sequence to initiate the descent procedure for the spacecraft.

Using the Wendelstein 7-X nuclear fusion reactor, the researchers managed to sustain the fusion experiment for an impressive 43 seconds, smashing the previous records, according to a report in LiveScience. Developing nuclear fusion for energy requirements has long been a goal of scientists but reaching temperatures over 100 million degrees Celsius and sustaining its long-term operation has always proved a challenge. However, using the machine with extremely low-density and electrically charged hydrogen gas as fuel, scientists managed to achieve the breakthrough. Wendelstein 7-X, officially called a 'stellarator', is a type of fusion device that confines hot, charged gas, known as plasma, with powerful external magnets controlling it. On May 22, plasma inside Wendelstein 7-X was raised to over 20 million Celsius, reaching a peak of 30 million Celsius. It also reached a new record high triple product, a key metric for the success of fusion power generators. The triple product is a combination of the density of particles in the plasma, the temperature required for these particles to fuse, and the energy confinement time. "The new record is a tremendous achievement by the international team. Elevating the triple product to tokamak levels during long plasma pulses marks another important milestone on the way toward a power-plant-capable stellarator," said Thomas Klinger, Head of Operations at Wendelstein 7-X. The two colliding clusters, together known as PSZ2 G181, resemble an irregular violet peanut shell with bulbous ends linked by a tapered middle. A composite image of the cosmic event shows crescent-shaped structures surrounding the system. As per the astronomers, these are likely shock fronts, described as massive, sonic-boom disturbances, often located near a dense core remnant. The shock fronts created from the initial impact have since moved apart and are now about 11 million light-years away from each other - the widest separation ever recorded. This suggests just how massive and long-lasting the effects of galaxy collisions can be. "Bracketing the combined galaxy cluster, these shock fronts were caused by the initial collision about a billion years ago. They are currently separated by 11 million light-years," NASA stated. Despite their enormous distance, the galaxy clusters are gravitationally bound and slowly turning back for another high-speed impact. "Now, data from NASA's Chandra and ESA's XMM-Newton is providing evidence that PSZ2 G181 is poised for another collision. Having a first pass at ramming each other, the two clusters have slowed down and begun heading back toward a second crash." As per Andra Stroe, the lead author of the study, the second encounter offers scientists the chance to observe a lower-mass system undergoing the kind of large-scale violence typically seen in more massive clusters. Additionally, the collision could provide more insights into the mysterious unseen substance known as dark matter, as well as the evolution of the universe.
