Ford recalls nearly 200,000 vehicles. See impacted models.
Ford is recalling nearly 200,000 vehicles after a locking mechanism could make it hard for backseat passengers to escape in the case of an emergency, according to The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"In the event of a low battery charge, the electronic door latches may remain locked once the driver or front passenger exits and shuts the door, possibly trapping someone who is unable to use the inside door release handles, such as a child in the back seat," the NHTSA stated.
The recall, which is under National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Safety Issue ID 25V404000, includes certain 2021-2025 Mustang Mach E vehicles. There are potentially 197,432 affected vehicles.

"The inability to enter or exit the vehicle in an emergency increases the risk of injury," Ford said.

Owners of the recalled vehicles should take their cars back to the dealerships.
Dealerships have been instructed to update the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and the Secondary On-Board Diagnostic Control Module C (SOBDMC) software, according to Ford's recall notice.

2025 Is Turning Into A Recall Disaster For Ford originally appeared on Autoblog. Almost three years ago, Ford CEO Jim Farley said that fixing quality was his top priority for the Blue Oval. However, Farley also said at the time that doing so would 'take several years,' and that appears to be an accurate assessment when looking at Ford's shockingly high number of recalls so far this year. In an analysis done by Carscoops, Ford has issued 81 recalls in 2025 so far. That's more than the entire number of recalls (67) for the brand in 2024, when Ford was only behind Stellantis (72) for total recalls. At this rate, Ford will hit over 150 recalls by the time the year is done. Those 81 recalls have affected over four million vehicles, and Ford has issued a recall every 2.12 days so far in 2025, on average. For each recall, an average of over 50,000 vehicles are affected. Even worse, 80 of the 81 recalls this year required some kind of physical inspection or fix for the impacted vehicles, so the problems were such that they couldn't be easily resolved via an over-the-air update. Here's just a few of the recalls issued by Ford in 2025: Rearview camera: 1.1 million vehicles affected Steering control issues: over 29,000 vehicles affected Braking failures: 2,345 vehicles affected Seat issues: over 300,000 vehicles affected This isn't an exhaustive list, and the combination of electronic, mechanical, and trim issues indicate that overall quality is a problem, not one specific aspect of Ford vehicles. Data from CarEdge supports this latest analysis, too; by the middle of May, Ford had racked up 51 recalls. The next closest brand was the VW Group, with 14, so it's not even close. The rearview camera recall is the biggest one for Ford so far in 2025. It affects everything from the Escape crossover to high-end models like the Lincoln Navigator and Nautilus. The camera display image could freeze or display a delayed image, which could result in the driver not spotting an immediate hazard. Electrical systems accounted for 17 unique recall campaigns. It's worth pointing out that 14 of Ford's recalls this year involved under 100 vehicles, so these were not as widespread. However, even if we exclude these 14 recalls, Ford is still having far more quality issues than any other can be issued at any time, and for vehicles of any age, so it's worth noting that Ford's current run of recalls are impacted by certain older models dating back to the 2020 model year. Looking at the latest J.D. Power 2025 Vehicle Dependability Study - which tracked the number of problems per brand for owners that have had their cars for three years - Ford doesn't fare as badly. It registered 208 problems per 100 vehicles, just below the industry average but above brands like Subaru, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, and Jeep. Still, there is clearly a quality crisis at Ford, and even if not all Ford owners are left stranded at the side of the road, the recalls are disruptive to the overall ownership experience and some of them pose safety risks. GM recalls over 41K Cadillac Lyriq EVs for blank instrument displays while driving

General Motors has recalled over 41,000 electric Cadillac Lyriq SUVs for a software error that can cause the driver's instrument cluster display to intermittently go blank while driving, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The recall covers 2023-2024 Lyriq models produced from March 2022 through September 2024. An estimated 3% of the vehicles are believed to have the software error. GM will issue an over-the-air software update for the video display control module to remedy the issue, but Lyriq customers can also have the update performed at a dealer for free. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 14. A blank video display can result in a loss of critical vehicle safety information, including the speedometer, warning lights, and loss of the rearview camera image, which can increase the risk of a crash, according to the recall report. The report also states that 'continuous improvements to the display control module software significantly reduce the likelihood of a display control module malfunction' in the Lyriq. GM opened a product investigation on March 4 after being notified by the NHTSA in late February that the agency had received customer complaints about display malfunctions in Lyriq models. A subsequent field data review by GM investigators identified 1,209 VIN numbers for 2023-2025 Cadillac Lyriq SUVs potentially associated with fault. The majority of these incidents occurred in 2023-2024 models equipped with video display control modules that were not updated to the latest software version. GM received notice of these incidents between Aug. 23, 2022, and April 3, 2025, according to the NHTSA. Following its internal investigation, GM's Safety Field Action Decision Authority decided to conduct a safety recall on May 22, but the company is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with blank instrument displays on Lyriq models. The recall is the second for the 2023 Lyriq involving the instrument panel display. The electric SUV was previously recalled in September 2022 for a condition where the driver video display control module would occasionally perform a boot-up/shutdown cycle when the vehicle was parked and powered off. However, this sequence could be interrupted if a door was opened and cause the display to go blank. At the time, an estimated 100% of these models were believed to have the defect. GM also recalled over 21,000 2023-2024 Lyriq models in August 2024 for a condition where the anti-lock braking system may activate unexpectedly. It was also related to software. In March, GM issued another recall for over 10,000 model year 2025 Lyriq EVs because the vehicle owner's manual inaccurately described the rear outboard head restraints, which did not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The 2026 Ford Explorer's off-road credibility is in for a boost when the midsize SUV adds a model with the automaker's popular Tremor badge later this year. The Explorer Tremor adds gear, including three steel skid plates, increased ground clearance and a Torsen rear differential. The 2026 Explorer Tremor also gets handsome visual upgrades from bright LED off-road lights across a new grille to 'Electric Spice' orange details. Ford discontinued the Timberline after the 2024 model year. The Tremor is an outdoorsy model mirroring the performance-oriented ST in the Explorer lineup. ST prices start at $56,770. It's not unreasonable to expect the Tremor in the same neighborhood. Tremors will be available with either a 2.3L four-cylinder or 3.0L V6 engine. The only performance figures Ford has revealed is 400 hp from the twin-turbo V6. Towing capacity is 5,000 pounds. A 14-speaker B&O audio system will be available. The Explorer is the second Ford SUV to get a Tremor model, following the Expedition. There are also Tremor models of Ford's pickups. The Explorer Tremor's front corners were carved out so the front wheels can tackle big rocks without damaging the fascia. Selecting a new off-road mode modifies throttle response, shift points, traction control, power distribution, 360-degree trail view and an inclinometer. Other unique Tremor touches include: 1 inch more ground clearance Twin front recovery hooks LED off-road lights in grille Steel front, rear and transmission skid plates Unique front and rear fascia Off-road driving mode Improved approach and departure angles Trail view cameras Unique stabilizer bars and springs Upgraded shock absorbers The Tremor will be the first vehicle with the 1.5 version of Ford's Blue Cruise hands-free driving system, which adds fully automatic lane changes to its other features. It shares the upgrades the 2025 Explorer received, including Google navigation, apps, music. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remain standard equipment.
