Projected Michigan Commit Makes Bold National Championship Claim About Texas

Class of 2026 four-star offensive tackle Malakai Lee, one of the top players in the country, remains uncommitted as he considers some of the top college football programs in the country.

Lee (6-foot-7, 310 pounds) plays for Kamehameha Secondary High School in Honolulu, Hawaii. He ranks as the No. 9 offensive tackle, the No. 1 player in the state of Hawaii and the No. 85 recruit overall in his class, per On3.
Lee is projected to land at Michigan, according to 247Sports' Steve Lorenz.
Head coach Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines extended a scholarship offer to Lee in the summer of last year before making his top-four schools, also including Georgia, Texas and Alabama.
Georgia (April 10) and Alabama (May 30) officially hosted Lee before Texas got its opportunity over the weekend.

And head coach Steve Sarkisian's Longhorns must have made a significant impression, as Lee spoke highly of the trajectory of the SEC powerhouse.

Although Texas hasn't won a national championship since 2005 and hasn't played for one since 2009, Lee believes the Longhorns will reach the promised land soon.
"They will be National Champions very soon," Lee said via Steve Wiltfong after his visit.
Lee's bold claim follows two standout seasons by Texas, including back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances. The Longhorns fell one game shy of a national championship shot in a loss to Ohio State in the semifinals last season.
There is also some notable momentum on the recruiting trail, as Texas signed the nation's No. 1 class in the 2025 cycle and are pushing for another top class in 2026.

Lee, coming off his visit to the Longhorns, is slated to officially visit Michigan on June 20 and plans to announce his decision on Aug. 15.

Astros triumph 4-3 over White Sox as Paredes homers, Altuve shines with 2 doubles
HOUSTON (AP) — Isaac Paredes hit a solo homer and Jose Altuve doubled twice and had two RBIs to lead the Houston Astros over the Chicago White Sox 4-3 on Thursday night. Houston led 4-2 entering the ninth before Mike Tauchman homered to right field off closer Josh Hader to get Chicago within 4-3. There were two outs when Miguel Vargas narrowly missed a homer on a double off the wall in left field. But Hader struck out Austin Slater to improve to 18 of 18 on save opportunities this season. Paredes appeared to injure his leg trying to beat out a double play in the seventh inning and was replaced at third base in the eighth. There was no immediate postgame update. The Astros led by one with one out in the fifth when Paredes connected on his shot to left-center off Davis Martin (2-7) to make it 4-2. Martin yielded seven hits and four runs with five strikeouts in six innings. Houston starter Framber Valdez (7-4) allowed seven hits and two runs with a season-high 12 strikeouts in five innings. Edgar Quero had three hits and two RBIs and Vargas had two doubles and a triple for the White Sox, who fell to 7-28 on the road. Altuve, who is primarily playing left field this season after spending his first 14 seasons at second base, made a leaping grab near the wall in left field in the seventh to rob Chase Meidroth of extra bases. Key moment Hader's strikeout of Slater to end it. Key stat Hader has the most saves without a blown save in the majors this season and his streak is the second longest in franchise history to start a season behind a 21-game streak by Dave Smith in 1989. Up next The White Sox open a three-game series at Texas and the Astros play the opener of a three-game series against Minnesota on Friday. ___ AP MLB:

Four eagles crowd leaderboard at Meijer LPGA Classic; Lexi Thompson in mix
BELMONT - The Meijer LPGA Classic has built a reputation with the players for having lots of birdie chances - how about four eagles from contenders? Most of the fairways are long and there are five par-5 holes on the course at Blythefield Country Club, and strong players are able to rack up some birdies. Advertisement But four of the top 10 golfers on the leaderboard did even better, as Mi Hyang Lee and Grace Kim both shot eagles on the par-5 No. 10 hole to surge ahead of the field. Meanwhile, American Andrea Lee eagled 18 to remain just three shots back and Ruixin Liu eagled No. 14 to finish 5-under. Mi Hyang Lee had the lead at 8-under-par 64. Kim was just one shot behind at 7-under. Lee eagled No. 10, one hole after four consecutive birdies to soar into the lead. More: Daughter of Michigan State coach makes LPGA debut at Meijer as Monday-qualifier More: Lexi Thompson addresses non-retirement, begins three-week stretch of LPGA events at Meijer Advertisement "No. 10 (I had a) good drive and then I didn't expect I could hit the green there for my second shot, but it was a great line and good hit the 3-wood and then I made the green, so it was almost 24 feet, right to left, for the eagle putt," Lee said. "Then I didn't expect to make it, but just trying to make more distance control the putting but it was working." Lee was pleased with her day overall, especially the four birdies in a row. "So my shot was great. I missed only two fairways. I think that's a lot of help for hit the green a lot, too," Lee said. "And my iron distance control was really good today, so I made more birdie chances." Grace Kim looks down the fairway after driving the ball during the LPGA Classic on June 12. The one-shot difference was a bogey Advertisement "I had two back-to-back chip-ins, one for eagle and one for birdie. That was a good start to the back nine. Yeah, just kind of saved pars early and then loosened up as we went on. That was quite nice," Kim said. "Had one little bogey. I would say a setback, but that didn't really set me back anyway because I knew the next hole was a par-5." Andrea Lee had her best hole at 18. "And then 18 obviously a gettable par-5. Hit a good drive and then hit a really good 3-wood. Striped it up the center of the green and it bounced to the right. Feel like it maybe took a peek at the hole. Ended up three feet and made eagle there," she said. "So that was a nice finish to my front nine." Former champs Lexi Thompson, Brooke Henderson in mix Several former Meijer champions were in the field and had mixed results in the first round. Advertisement Lexi Thompson finished the first round at 4-under, a strong finish. Starting on the back nine, she birdied the 14th and 18th. After the turn, she birdied the 4th, 5th and 8th hole and had one bogey at No. 7. "I mean, just take the positives from today. You know, I hit some iffy shots but also hit some really great ones, and felt like I stroked it well," Thompson said. "So just really build off that and take that into tomorrow." It was far from her best round at Blythefield, but a very solid start that will keep her in the mix, as she always is at the Meijer LPGA Classic. And she always has the biggest crowd. Advertisement "It's always what I hope for, what we all hope for really, just to see the support out here in Grand Rapids and women's golf. It's just amazing how the community really gets behind this event," Thompson said. "I think the girls really just enjoy coming here." Two-time champion Brooke Henderson shot a 3-under par 69. Not every former champion started strong. Leona Maguire, who also has enjoyed stellar success at this event, including a win, finished even with four birdies, three bogeys and one double bogey on 17. Mirim Lee struggled and finished 4-over. Contact sports editor Dan D'Addona at Dan.D'Addona@ Follow him on X, formerly known as Twitter @DanDAddona or Facebook @HollandSentinelSports. Dillon Gabriel Gets Good News After Browns Minicamp
Dillon Gabriel Gets Good News After Browns Minicamp originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Oregon Ducks just put up one of their most successful seasons in the program's history. Not only did they finish the regular season undefeated in their first year in the Big Ten, but they also won the conference championship game against Penn State. Advertisement As a result, the Ducks received the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff after barely missing out on making it with Bo Nix the year prior. Oklahoma Sooners transfer Dillon Gabriel led them at the quarterback position. Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel (8).© Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images Dillon Gabriel gets good news during Browns minicamp While the Ducks fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl, that didn't put a stop to their success. In April's NFL Draft, 10 Ducks were selected, the most in a single draft in program history. Many were shocked to see Gabriel be selected as high as he was when the Cleveland Browns took him in the third round. Even more surprising was the fact that they drafted him with Shedeur Sanders still on the board. Advertisement Now, the two are battling it out in Browns minicamp. While some out there believe in Sanders, Gabriel has received good news regarding his current standing with the team. In their 11-on-11 drills, Gabriel has been seen working with the first-team offense, something beat writer Mary Kay Cabot believes is significant. 'I think it's very significant right now that they're throwing first-teamers at Dillon," wrote Kabot. "Dillon is playing with the first-team offense against the first-team defense. I mean, those are choice quality reps that he's getting.' The Browns are one of the more intriguing quarterback battles around the league, with Gabriel, Sanders, Joe Flacco, and Kenny Pickett. Advertisement 'The Browns are positioning Gabriel to potentially serve as the backup quarterback behind a veteran starter, likely Joe Flacco or Pickett," Kabot wrote. "Sanders, meanwhile, is on a longer developmental timeline.' Things can change between now and the team's official training camp in August, but the Browns have seemingly liked what they've seen from Gabriel if they're not afraid to throw first-team reps at him. While he's not the biggest, Gabriel has a solid arm with great ball placement. They likely won't build around him, but they can likely keep you competitive in a game if he's thrown into the game in an emergency situation.
