The Oregon Ducks just put up one of their most successful seasons in the program's history. Not only did they finish the regular season undefeated in their first year in the Big Ten, but they also won the conference championship game against Penn State.

As a result, the Ducks received the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff after barely missing out on making it with Bo Nix the year prior. Oklahoma Sooners transfer Dillon Gabriel led them at the quarterback position.

While the Ducks fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl, that didn't put a stop to their success. In April's NFL Draft, 10 Ducks were selected, the most in a single draft in program history.
Many were shocked to see Gabriel be selected as high as he was when the Cleveland Browns took him in the third round. Even more surprising was the fact that they drafted him with Shedeur Sanders still on the board.

Now, the two are battling it out in Browns minicamp. While some out there believe in Sanders, Gabriel has received good news regarding his current standing with the team. In their 11-on-11 drills, Gabriel has been seen working with the first-team offense, something Cleveland.com beat writer Mary Kay Cabot believes is significant.
'I think it's very significant right now that they're throwing first-teamers at Dillon," wrote Kabot. "Dillon is playing with the first-team offense against the first-team defense. I mean, those are choice quality reps that he's getting.'
The Browns are one of the more intriguing quarterback battles around the league, with Gabriel, Sanders, Joe Flacco, and Kenny Pickett.

'The Browns are positioning Gabriel to potentially serve as the backup quarterback behind a veteran starter, likely Joe Flacco or Pickett," Kabot wrote. "Sanders, meanwhile, is on a longer developmental timeline.'
Things can change between now and the team's official training camp in August, but the Browns have seemingly liked what they've seen from Gabriel if they're not afraid to throw first-team reps at him.
While he's not the biggest, Gabriel has a solid arm with great ball placement. They likely won't build around him, but they can likely keep you competitive in a game if he's thrown into the game in an emergency situation.

Duke Reacts to Major Announcement Featuring Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel Ahead of NBA Draft originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Duke Blue Devils had a dominant season in the ACC, capturing both the regular-season and conference tournament titles behind standout performances from freshmen Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, and Khaman Maluach. Advertisement Now, following a heartbreaking Final Four loss to Houston in April, the trio is expected to hear their names called at the NBA draft on June 25 in Brooklyn. On Wednesday, it was announced that all three have been invited to the green room—reserved for top prospects and their families—to walk the stage and shake hands with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver when their names are called. They are three of the 13 players who received the prestigious invite thus far. On Wednesday morning, Duke's social media team celebrated the milestone with a post featuring a photo of the trio and the caption: '3 of 13.' Cooper Flagg is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. Advertisement That outcome has been widely expected since the start of his freshman season at Duke, and with the Mavericks unexpectedly winning the draft lottery, it now seems all but certain he'll be the first name called. As for Kon Knueppel and Khaman Maluach, there remains some uncertainty regarding their draft positions. However, both are widely viewed as lottery-caliber prospects, indicating they are likely to be selected within the top 14 picks. Jason Kidd's Problem With Mavericks After Luka Doncic Trade Revealed Amid Knicks Rumors

Jason Kidd's Problem With Mavericks After Luka Doncic Trade Revealed Amid Knicks Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Knicks are interested in hiring Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd as their next tactician after firing Tom Thibodeau last week. Advertisement Thibodeau was fired despite leading the Knicks to the conference finals this year for the first time since 2000. One of the top point guards in NBA history, Kidd has two years left on his contract with the Mavericks, who missed the playoffs this year after making the NBA Finals last year. Dallas general manager Nico Harrison shockingly traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February. The Mavericks acquired Anthony Davis in the deal, but Davis, Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson only played one game together. Jason Kidd wasn't happy after the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic. Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images According to James L. Edwards III of The Athletic, Kidd didn't enjoy being the Mavericks' spokesperson after the Doncic trade with the Lakers. Advertisement Harrison met with the media a day after the deal was made and then held a private interview session with no cameras or microphones in April, making Kidd the only one available to answer questions about the Doncic trade for a while. 'Furthermore, Kidd didn't always enjoy being Dallas' spokesperson in the aftermath of the franchise trading Luka Doncic, per league sources," Edwards III wrote. "In a Feb. 10 game against the Kings, Mavericks center Daniel Gafford got hurt. In the middle of the injury crisis, multiple fans were also ejected for protesting the Doncic trade. Kidd didn't address the media afterward.' Kidd has coached the Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks and Mavericks. He has a record of 362-339 in the regular season and 31-33 in the playoffs. Advertisement If Kidd wants to leave Dallas for New York, the Knicks would have to trade for the Hall of Famer. The Nets traded Kidd to the Bucks in 2014 for two second-round draft picks. Kyrie Irving's 2024-25 season ended a lot sooner than he'd have hoped, as he tore his ACL in March during a game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Sacramento Kings. Irving had averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.5 blocks per game for the Mavericks before being sidelined with the injury. Advertisement Irving's absence was a huge blow to the Mavericks. It was part of an injury crisis after the Luka Doncic trade that led to them finishing 10th in the Western Conference with a 39-43 record. Just a year after getting to the NBA Finals, the Mavericks would fail to even make it to the playoffs, losing to the Memphis Grizzlies in the play-in tournament. Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving (11) is recovering from a torn Miron-Imagn Images Irving is targeting a return in January 2026, and the hope is that it won't take him too long to get back to his best. The nine-time All-Star has been a joy to watch on the court over the years thanks to his incredible ball-handling. On the latest episode of the "Young Man and the Three" podcast, former NBA star Tracy McGrady called Irving one of his favorite players to watch. Advertisement That led to co-host Tommy Alter asking McGrady if he had ever seen someone with a handle like Irving's. McGrady claimed he had actually seen someone with a better handle. "Yeah, Jamaal Tinsley," McGrady said on The Young Man and the Three. "You remember, Jamaal Tinsley? Man, I don't think nobody had better handles than Jamaal Tinsley, even Kyrie. I think Jamaal Tinsley handles was probably the best I've seen." Jamaal Tinsley is a name you don't see get brought up all that often these days. The Vancouver Grizzlies had selected Tinsley with the 27th pick in the 2001 NBA Draft, but traded him to the Atlanta Hawks, who then sent him to the Indiana Pacers. Advertisement Tinsley spent 11 seasons in the NBA during which he averaged 8.5 points, 2.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.3 blocks per game. His career wasn't as great as Irving's, as he never even made an All-Star team, but McGrady reckons his handles were better.
